The Royal Society, is the United Kingdom's National Academy for science. RS Publishing provides a prestigious range of scientific journals. Please note that much of the content of these journals is already freely available online; the details varying slightly between the journals – see the Royal Society Publishing web pages.

Access to Royal Society's journals into three groups for the purposes of this offer:

I ) Biological sciences, to include:

• Philosophical Transactions B – each issue is devoted to a specific, topical area of the biological sciences
• Proceedings B is the Royal Society's flagship biological research journal, dedicated to the fast publication and worldwide dissemination of high-quality research
• Biology Letters publishes short, highly-innovative, cutting-edge research articles and opinion pieces accessible to scientists from across the biological sciences
• (Open Biology is all full open access so not covered in this offer)
• Interface Focus publishes themed issues covering cross-disciplinary research at the interface between the physical and life sciences.
• Journal of the Royal Society Interface publishes cross-disciplinary research at the interface between the physical and life sciences
• Notes and Records - an international journal which publishes original research in the history of science, technology and medicine up to and including the 21st century
  • Subject Collections

II ) Physical sciences, to include:

• Philosophical Transactions A - each issue is devoted to a specific, topical area of the physical sciences.
• Proceedings A publishes research articles across the mathematical, physical and engineering sciences
• Interface Focus, Journal of the Royal Society Interface, Notes and Records – see descriptions above
  • Subject Collections

III ) History of science, to include:

• Notes and Records - an international journal which publishes original research in the history of science, technology and medicine up to and including the 21st century
• Biographical Memoirs of Fellows of the Royal Society - an annual journal with extended obituaries and full bibliographies of Fellows.

Requirements[edit]

• You have your preferences enabled to receive email messages on English Wikipedia or on your home wiki linked from your application; (see Special:Preferences)
• You have an account that is a minimum of 6 months old
• You have a minimum of 500 edits to the encyclopedia
• You do not already have access to this resource through another library or institution

If you don't quite meet the experience requirements but think you would still be a strong candidate for access, feel free to apply and you may be considered

Expectations[edit]

Approved editors will

• Use their Royal Society account during their free access period
• Always provide original citation information, in addition to linking a Royal Society article
• Not use bare links to Royal Society pages
• Note (subscription required) in the citation, where appropriate (but note that much is free to access anyway)
• Review WP:V, WP:SAYWHEREYOUGOTIT, and WP:PAYWALL, and be aware that much of the content of the journals is primary research, which may not always be the most suitable source for a Wikipedia article.
• Respect the copyrights of the Royal Society, following sections 1, 3, 6, 8, & 9 of the Royal Society’s Terms and Conditions and Wikipedia’s copyright policy.
• Agree to the Wikipedia Library’s privacy policy (allowing following for metrics) as follows:
  • Give a confirmed email address. Editors understand and agree that their name and email address may be shared with representatives of the Wikimedia Foundation, Wikipedia Library, and the Royal Society. While representatives of the Wikipedia Library are volunteers (not employees or contractors of the Wikimedia Foundation or the Royal Society), they have signed confidentiality agreements with the Wikimedia Foundation with regards to the personal information they may handle for the Wikipedia Library.
• Complete a short survey at the end of their access period.

Approved editors will not

• Share their account logins or passwords with others
• Mass scrape, mass download, or distribute content
• Systematically make printed or electronic copies of multiple extracts of restricted content available for any purpose
• Datamine metadata, such as to use for auto-created stub articles, without the consent of the Royal Society, see their page
• Use the access provided for any commercial purpose

Private and confidential information

• By applying to the Program, you understand and agree that your name and email address may be shared with representatives of the Wikimedia Foundation, The Wikipedia Library, and RSUK. Wikipedia Library organizers contracted under the Wikimedia Foundation will abide by the Wikimedia Foundation privacy policy and associated confidentiality agreements. Volunteer representatives of the Wikipedia Library are neither employees nor contractors of the Wikimedia Foundation (or RSUK), but they have signed confidentiality agreements with the Wikimedia Foundation with regards to the personal information they may handle for the Wikipedia Library.

Citation[edit]

• Editors should always provide original citation information in addition to linking to RSUK resources, per WP:V and WP:SAYWHEREYOUGOTIT.
• Editors should not provide bare links to restricted RSUK pages
• Note (subscription required) in the citation, where appropriate
• Respect the copyright of RSUK, in accordance with Wikipedia's copyright policy and their terms of use
• Cite resources in line with the citation examples provided below or with the examples provided by RSUK

Note that citation styles vary by article; editors can use the style most appropriate to the articles they are working with so long as the citations are complete.

What to expect with TWL account processing
	Make sure to read this before sending emails to account coordinators inquiring about your account status. Our current average account distribution cycle (from sign up to account access), is 27 days. We are working on improving this. Step 1: Application screening We will begin screening applicants within a few weeks of opening applications, usually as the number of applications approaches or exceeds the number of accounts available. At that time the account coordinator will place an {{Approved}} ( Approved), {{Unapproved}} ( Not approved)or {{ToBeDone}} ( Pending or waitlisted) status to your account. If you signed up after the initial call for applicants, process may not happen immediately if accounts are not available. Step 2: Email and Google Form After you have received approval for an account, you will be contacted via a Wikipedia email from the account coordinator; be sure to check your spam folder. The email will contain instructions for filling out a Google form with the required information for access. Step 3: Waiting for partners to activate accounts There are several steps of subsequent processing, including waiting for a batch of users to submit information, emailing partners, and waiting for partners to activate accounts. Expect this process to take as long as two weeks; we try to make it take less time, but there are a lot of variables at play. Step 4: Using access Once the account is activated either the volunteer coordinator or the partner will send you an email with access information. Follow the given instructions, and make sure to actively use your access to improve Wikipedia content! Changes coming soon We recognize this process can be frustrating and take a while: we think so too. We are in the process of developing a digital tool to make this process more user friendly and make it easier for us to give you access to partners. More than once I have found that it would have been nice to be able to spice up the hardcore math and physics with a more detailed historical account than year of publication of seminal papers. My access to this database is only limited, and I have repeatedly encountered the need to use it in full. I work on the Caribbean, African Diaspora, Latino American and Indigenous of the Americas Wikiprojects covering all topics, but particularly history, and history of sciences (e.g., nautical). My contributions to Wikipedia have been in creating new articles (e.g., San Juan Bay, Guarionex), fixing and providing sources for others, ranging from stub (Antilles Current) to class C articles (e.g. Race and intelligence). A more complete list is found in my userpage. The idea is to bring those articles to GA or FA statuses. 16. YohanN7 (talk · contribs · central auth · count · email) I am an experienced editor who have had access to Physical Sciences content before. This access seems to now be expired (userid yohann7 still valied, but can't access much), and I'd like to see access renewed. I edit mostly articles related to mathematical physics, but I'd like access to History of science as well. Especially the obituaries in Biographical Memoirs of Fellows of the Royal Society are invaluable sources for getting the history sections right in the articles I edit. (This too was approved once, but didn't work out all the way to actual access.) Notes and Records can provide otherwise completely unverifiable twists to articles on otherwise rather dull subjects.
