'Kong' Challenges Wolverine for Weekend Box Office Supremacy

7 hours ago | Box Office Mojo | See recent BoxOfficeMojo.com news »

It's King Kong versus Wolverine this weekend as Kong: Skull Island serves as the weekend's lone new wide release. Not only is Skull Island hoping to top the weekend box office as it could be looking at a neck-and-neck finish with last weekend's champ, but it hopes to join the ranks of recent hits such as Jordan Peele's low budget horror breakout Get Out and last weekend's $88.4 million debut of Logan, the fourth largest R-rated opening of all-time, as the box office has seen its share of star performers as of late. Debuting in 3,846 theaters, Warner Bros. and Legendary's Kong: Skull Island is the second feature in the planned universe of films following 2014's Godzilla. Expected to follow Skull Island is the release of Godzilla 2, slated for 2019, and a Godzilla vs. Kong monster mash-up in 2020. Of course, first things first. 2014's Godzilla opened with a massive $93.1 million and went »

HBO Finally Reveals Game Of Thrones Season 7 Premiere Date

6 hours ago | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Few shows hold a candle to the epic scale and scope of Game of Thrones, and fewer still are able to attract over 150,000 fans via Facebook Live.

And yet, that’s exactly what HBO’s fantasy flagship did earlier today as part of an elaborate reveal event. Following on the suitably chilly poster, the network invited Facebook users to type “fire” and “dracarys” into the comments to essentially fuel the on-hand flamethrower. Its target? A giant block of ice, in which was buried the official Game of Thrones season 7 premiere date. And so, after much keyboard-bashing, it’s official: the seventh and penultimate season of HBO’s epic arrives on July 16th.

Comprised of seven episodes in total – the eighth and final season is expected to run for around six or eight episodes, depending on the finale that David Benioff and Dan Weiss have rustled up – the upcoming batch of »

“We are expecting this film to deliver, it’s got heart and a highly promotable cast,” said Pantelion COO Edward Allen.

Comedy centers on an ageing Latin Lothario, played by Derbez, who’s made a living out of seducing rich, older women. MGM in Talks to Buy Out Epix Partners Lionsgate, Viacom (Report)

33 minutes ago | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

MGM is reportedly in talks to buy out partners Lionsgate and Viacom and become sole owner of premium cable channel Epix.

MGM currently owns 19% of Epix, while Viacom owns 50% and Lionsgate own the remaining 32%. Following its acquisition of premium network Starz last year, Lionsgate indicated that it would look to unload its stake in Epix. Viacom, meanwhile, has $12 billion in debt that it has promised to pay down — a goal that an Epix deal would help achieve.

News of the possible deal was first reported Thursday by Reuters.

According to Reuters, a possible deal would likely include Paramount and Lionsgate agreeing to continue to distribute their movies through Epix for several years to come. Epix, which includes a companion digital streaming service, would reportedly be valued between $1 billion and $2 billion.

A representative for MGM declined to comment.

Epix was launched in 2009 as a partnership between Viacom-owned Paramount, MGM, and Lionsgate, as »

Sam Gold is the latest to pick up the next-to-nothing-is-more approach to Tennessee Williams. The American director’s “Glass Menagerie” opened Thursday at the Belasco Theatre, and it is pure Gold in every sense of the word. Has there ever been a barer stage on Broadway? The four actors enter from a side door on the orchestra level, with Sally Field pushing newcomer Madison Ferris in a wheelchair. What follows is one of the evening’s many silent longueurs as Ferris, a woman with muscular dystrophy, negotiates the small staircase to the stage to take her place there.
