Storyline

Stan is upset that his dog Sparky is, by all appearances, gay. After repeated attempts to change Sparky's ways, Stan cries out, "I don't want a gay dog!" causing Sparky to run away. When Stan goes looking for him, he encounters Big Gay Al and his sanctuary for gay pets. Big Gay Al helps show Stan that gay people are just like everyone else and that being gay isn't something that can just be changed. Meanwhile, the South Park football team is facing North Park for the annual game, and everyone is depending on quarterback Stan to help the team beat the spread. Will Stan make it back from Al's in time? Written by Jean-Marc Rocher <rocher@fiberbit.net>

Trivia

The dirt smudges on the football player's helmets and uniforms were intentionally designed to look like smudges on construction paper. This was done to maintain the show's deliberately crude visual style they first created with construction paper in The Spirit of Christmas (1995) and the pilot episode, South Park: Cartman Gets an Anal Probe (1997). Good episode
21 September 2008 | by (Canada(Montreal,Quebec)) – See all my reviews

Big Gay Al's big gay boatride is the fourth episode of South Park. This is where the show starts to get better. In this episode, Stan has a homosexual dog named Sparky. After his teacher Mr Garrison tells him gay people are evil and the other children make fun of him he tries to dissuade Sparky from being gay.Sparkey eventually runs away from home and goes to "Big Gay Al's Big Gay Animal Sanctuary".Meanwhile Stan is also the quarterback of the school football team.He is decent while the rest are pretty bad(this episode marks the speaking debut of "Pip"(though he was in a few scenes in the extended version of Cartman gets an anal probe).Stan's Uncle Jimbo and Ned bet on Stan's team and everybody else does too. They are not sure if the team will win or not, so they decide to rig the halftime show.Big Gay Al's big gay boatride is a good episode and the show starts getting better after this one.
