The Buzz: Blissfully, comedian Jordan Peele's talent is everywhere these days, and this horror-thriller, which marks his directorial debut, demonstrates yet another facet to the funnyman's skill set. Serving also as the film's writer, Peele uses a story about an interracial couple's visit to a creepy family estate to showcase his sharp insight about contemporary conceptions and assumptions about race. I'm expecting some good chills here, mixed with some biting commentary about the way things are ... and the way things should never be (or so the movie's super compelling trailer leads me to believe). - Bret
Collide (2016)- Action | Thriller
An American backpacker gets involved with a ring of drug smugglers as their driver, though he winds up on the run from his employers across Cologne high-speed Autobahn.
Director:Eran Creevy |
|

The Buzz: Pretty much everything written on Eran Creevy's latest action movie focuses on the behind the scenes drama the project endured as it swapped studios (from struggling Relativity Media to Open Road Films) and faced a few release date switches. Chances for success seem limited, but we have enjoyed positioning the movie as a version of Crank where Nicholas Hoult's love for Felicity Jones is the only thing that keeps him from certain death.
Rock Dog (2016)- Animation | Comedy | Family
When a radio falls from the sky into the hands of a wide-eyed Tibetan Mastiff, he leaves home to fulfill his dream of becoming a musician, setting into motion a series of completely unexpected events.
Director:Ash Brannon |

The Buzz:
Former Pixar storyboard artist and Toy Story 2 co-director Ash Brannon steers the first Chinese animated movie produced by an American studio; the thought here is to introduce the adaptation of the Chinese graphic novel Tibetan Rock Dog to a global audience, but we sense awareness of the movie is quite low in the U.S.
Bitter Harvest (2017) - [Limited]- Drama | Romance | War
Set in 1930s Ukraine, as Stalin advances the ambitions of communists in the Kremlin, young artist Yuri battles to save his lover Natalka from the Holodomor, the death-by-starvation program that ultimately killed millions of Ukrainians.

The Buzz: The little-told story of the Ukraine Genocide of 1932-33 is dramatized by workingman director George Mendeluk.
As You Are (2016) - [Limited]- Drama | Mystery
Set in the early 1990's, "As You Are" is the telling and retelling of a relationship between three teenagers as it traces the course of their friendship through a construction of disparate memories prompted by a police investigation.
Director:Miles Joris-Peyrafitte |
|

The Buzz: This 2016 Sundance winner should find its audience in time thanks to the presence of Charlie Heaton ("Stranger Things") and Amandla Stenberg (Rue from The Hunger Games).
Punching Henry (2016) - [Limited]- Comedy
Hapless satirical songwriter Henry Phillips is lured to LA when a veteran TV producer decides to make a show about the life of a loser.
Director:Gregori Viens |
|
Watch Trailer |
The Buzz: This project seems to function as a follow-up to the 2009 indie Punching the Clown as director Gregori Viens re-teams with his co-writer/star Henry Phillips and looks at the life of a comedian in the YouTube/social media era. A clutch of fine actors and comedians should help give the movie extended life in the streaming world.
