Godzilla: King of the Monsters is now a family affair.
Vera Farmiga will play the mother of Millie Bobby Brown in the Godzilla sequel, with daddy duty having gone to Kyle Chandler.
Michael Dougherty (Krampus) is directing from a script he wrote with Zach Shields. The Legendary and Warner Bros. feature is the follow-up to Gareth Edwards' 2014 reboot, which earned $529.1 million worldwide.
Plot details are being kept secret, but Chandler, who has already starred in creature features Super 8 and King Kong, is the hero of the pic and plays a scientist.

“La La Land” director Damien Chazelle on Sunday became the youngest Best Director in Oscar history. The 32-year-old filmmaker breaks a record that’s held for 86 years. The U.S. State Department on Monday sent out and then deleted a tweet congratulating an Oscar win by director Asghar Farhadi, who criticized President Donald Trump’s travel ban as “inhumane.”
The state department’s official Persian-language Twitter account, @USAdarFarsi, posted the congratulatory tweet to the Iranian people and Farhadi, director of “The Salesman,” after the movie won an Oscar for best foreign-language film on Sunday.

Anyone who’s seen “Mary Poppins” knows what a bad Cockney accent sounds like. But for the first time, British actors have ranked Dick Van Dyke’s “mockney” as the worst attempt at a U.K. accent in a pool of the highest grossing films’ leads.
Language-learning app Babbel commissioned ex-pat professional actors from both the UK and Us to vote on a five-point scale on how convincing the accents were for leading parts in blockbusters grossing over $100 million.
For the United States accent, American Actors UK awarded British actor Chiwetel Ejiofor a 4.5/5 for his work as Solomon Northup in “12 Years a Slave.” Tied for second are the DC superheros; Christian Bale as Batman and Henry Cavill as Superman both garnered 4.2/5 scores.

Jordan Bridges has joined the cast of the Stx thriller “Den of Thieves,” starring Gerard Butler and Curtis Jackson — aka 50 Cent.
Pablo Schreiber (“13 Hours”) and O’Shea Jackson Jr. also star in the film. Christian Gudegast and Paul Scheuring are directing from their own script.
The thriller follows the intersecting lives of an elite unit of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and the state’s most successful bank robbery crew as they plan a seemingly impossible heist on downtown L.A.’s Federal Reserve Bank.
Bridges plays the by-the-book federal agent, who is the complete opposite and the nemesis of Butler’s character, “Big Nick” Flanagan.
The movie — currently in production — is being produced by Tucker Tooley and Mark Canton, as well as Butler and Alan Siegel from G-Base, Butler’s production company.
