Joan Collins and Pauline Collins star in Trailer and Poster for The Time of Their Lives

Author: Zehra Phelan

In 2015, Michael Caine and Harvey Keitel stuck two fingers up at the film industry with the Paolo Sorrentino directed Youth. It proved to the whole industry just because you’ve reached a certain age doesn’t mean you’ve lost your talent or appeal to the movie going public. In fact over the last few years we have seen actors such as Michael Douglas, Morgan Freeman and Robert De Niro all prove they are all digging their heels in and not going anywhere.

Now it’s time for the ladies to get in on the act with Golden Globe-winner Dame Joan Collins – who we last saw make an appearance in last year’s Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie – Oscar nominee Pauline Collins (The Last Dragon Slayer, Albert Nobbs) and Italian heartthrob Franco Nero (Django, Django Unchained) all starring in the upcoming feel-good comedy, The Time of Their Lives »

Resident Evil: The Final Chapter Review

Author: Stefan Pape

Since the very first Resident Evil film first graced our screens back in 2002, it’s fair to say that the zombie sub-genre has become somewhat tired in contemporary cinema, as audiences have been subject to an influx of productions, each attempting to put a new spin on a rather hackneyed concept. It’s not the fault of the Paul W.S. Anderson led franchise, but it still has an affect on their latest offering, as this title struggles to stand out from the crowd, tedious and uninspiring, suffocated by its very own lack of imagination.

Beginning soon after the events that took place in the preceding endeavour Resident Evil: Retribution, we rejoin Alice (Milla Jovovich), who seems to be the lone survivor of the viral infection which wiped out humanity. Strong willed, and kicking the crap out of the undead on a daily basis, she is presented with a message, »

Mel Gibson and John Lithgow wanted for Daddy’s Home 2

Author: Scott Davis

Despite the controversy that has surrounded him in the last decade or so, it seems Mel Gibson is well and truly on the comeback trail in Hollywood. His latest film, Hacksaw Ridge, has been a big success across the globe and was rewarded last week with an Academy Award nomination for Best Director alongside his star Andrew Garfield, nominated for Best Actor (read our review here).

Now it seems Gibson could be about the jump back in front of the camera if new rumours are to be believed. Deadline is reporting that the Braveheart star is being courted for a role in the upcoming comedy sequel Daddy’s Home 2, which would see him star alongside the returning duo of Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg, reprising their roles as Brad and Dusty respectively.

Indeed Gibson isn’t the only award-season favourite wanted for the film as The Crown »

Author: Scott Davis

One of the most eagerly anticipated new TV shows to debut in 2017 is Legion, the new show from Fox and Marvel, which debuts this month. And in an exclusive interview, we sat down with one of the stars of the show Rachel Keller to discuss the show and how it fits into the X-Men Universe…

Legion takes its cue from the comic-book series of the same name and is from Noah Hawley, creator and producer of the award-winning Fargo television series which is about to start its third season. But Hawley had some knowledgeable help on the show, with X-Men film runners Lauren Shuler Donner, Simon Kinberg and Bryan Singer on board as executive-producers as well as legendary comic-book writer Jeph Loeb, who worked on Smallville.

As for Keller, she plays Syd Barrett in the show. Described as a “self-sufficent, street-smart” young women, Syd’s mutation gives »

Spiceworld! Denis Villeneuve has signed on to direct the Dune reboot

Author: Jon Lyus

The recent swathe of awards nominations for Denis Villeneuve’s Arrival restored the faith of sci-fi fans around the world. Ted Chiang’s beautifully constructed tale ‘Stories of Your Life’ was adapted perfectly to the big screen by Villeneuve and screenwriter Eric Heisserer, and was a wonderful alternative to the plotless CG action sci-fi films we’ve seen so many of. The director has been circling another epic sci-fi project for a number of weeks, and today it has been confirmed that he’s taking on the Dune reboot for Legendary pictures.

Earlier today Brian Herbert (son of Dune creator Frank Herbert, and sci-fi author in his own right) tweeted the following good news:

Gold Review

31 January 2017 6:15 AM, PST

Author: Scott Davis

A couple of years ago, a cinematic event happened so wondrous, so monumental that you couldn’t go anywhere without hearing about it. That event was The McConaissance, the return from rom-com and failed blockbuster obscurity of Texas’ finest Matthew McConaughey. Freed from the shackles of getting his shirt off and romancing some of Hollywood’s finest actresses, McConaughey excelled in Mud, Killer Joe, True Detective and his Oscar-winning turn in Dallas Buyers Club.

But since that celebratory evening, the actor has found his subsequent projects fall a little short (Free State of Jones and The Sea of Trees flopped), but it’s with great relish (and relief) then to say that Gold is his return to top form – and the realms of “method” – with a superb performance that is one of the best of the year.

Diego Luna is set to star in the Scarface reboot, but director Antoine Fuqua is out

31 January 2017 5:13 AM, PST

Author: Jon Lyus

The latest remake of Scarface has been on the cards for about five years. Martin Bregman, one of the producers of the classic 1983 Al Pacino film, has been working with Universal to develop a new interpretation of the legend and today it was announced that Rogue One’s Diego Luna has been cast in the lead role.

The actor will next be seen in another re-make-quel-boot, Niels Arden Oplev’s new version of Flatliners with Nina Dobrev, Kiefer Sutherland and Ellen Page. Universal’s new Scarface film should propel Luna to a new, wider audience however there’s a good chance Antoine Fuqua won’t be directing him. Variety report that plans to move ahead with a sequel for the 2014 film The Equalizer are moving ahead very quickly, and the desire for a quick sequel has caused conflict in the scheduling.

Peter Capaldi announces he is leaving Doctor Who – but here are five reasons to watch Series Ten

31 January 2017 3:44 AM, PST

Author: Reuben Roper

Doctor Who fans woke up to the news this morning that Peter Capaldi, the show’s twelfth incarnation of The Doctor, is leaving the show. His departure is not entirely unexpected, as it coincides with the exit of the showrunner Steven Moffat, who has been with the show since Matt Smith took over the role.

It is bittersweet ending for Capaldi’s Doctor, who had to follow the double act of the aforementioned Smith and David Tennant. The show struggled to find its feet with Capaldi initially, however under Capaldi’s reign the show has seen some of its finest hours. We loved his entanglements with Missy, and his one man show Heaven Sent from Series Nine is one of the best episodes of the show’s entire run.

This movie is the live-action retelling of the 1991 animated film which to this day still stands up as one of the greatest animations ever made.

It’s official: Ben Affleck is no longer directing The Batman

30 January 2017 6:37 PM, PST

Author: Josh Wilding

After spending pretty much the entirety of Live by Night’s press tour being asked about The Batman, it has been confirmed today that Ben Affleck is no longer set to direct that movie.

It’s disappointing news when you think back to what he delivered with the likes of Argo and The Town, but on the plus side, he will remain on as a producer and as Bruce Wayne/Batman.

“There are certain characters who hold a special place in the hearts of millions,” Affleck said in a statement addressing his decision to step out of the director’s chair. “Performing  this role demands focus, passion and the very best performance I can give. It has become clear that I cannot do both jobs to the level they require. Together with the studio, I have decided to find a partner in a director who will collaborate »

The Han Solo spin off Star Wars movie goes into production

30 January 2017 9:28 AM, PST

Author: Jon Lyus

The Star Wars universe is in a fine state at the moment. The huge $billion+ box office haul for Gareth Edwards’ initial Star Wars anthology film Rogue One is a huge win for LucasFilm, and paves a smoother path for the non-Skywalker saga films to come. The next film to go before the cameras is the young Han Solo spin off movie,  directed by Lego movie mavericks Chris Miller and Phil Lord, and written by Lawrence and Jon Kasdan.

The first image from the set was tweeted today with Chris Miller revealing the working title for the film – Red Cup. The tweeted picture was accompanied by three choice words – “Han, First, Shot” which is not only factually correct but plays to the crowd in a very knowing way. This is a further distancing of George Lucas’ 1997 Special Edition (and subsequent releases) tampering of the original films. Fans »

First look image for the All-Female Ocean’s 8 has Sandra Bullock & Co. not looking amused

30 January 2017 4:45 AM, PST

Author: Zehra Phelan

The summer of 2018 is looking female feisty with the release of the all-female Ocean’s 8 and from the looks of the first image that has just become available we certainly wouldn’t want to get on the wrong side of these ladies – that probably explains the lack of any male passengers on the carriage.

Warner Bros. Pictures’ and Village Roadshow Pictures’ first look at “Ocean’s 8” from one of New York City’s most iconic locales: the subway. The tide will turn as (L-r) Debbie Ocean (Sandra Bullock) attempts to pull off the heist of the century at New York City’s star-studded annual Met Gala. Her first stop is to assemble the perfect crew. That said crew only happens to be some of the most bad-ass actresses that currently rule the big screen.
