I am a big fan of 24 from the very beginning. Season 1 and 2 are still
the best for me (meaning lesser plot holes and suspension of
disbelief). From there the show kept repeating itself and became quite
generic, even so generic that you can effortlessly predict the twists
coming. And yet I continued watching and enjoying - the characters were
solid, the pace was good and all in all I got what I wanted and what I
enjoyed (just not so much as the the first season which is normal).
24: Legacy is no different - it follows the same formula, it doesn't
offer anything new but also it does not take away what we need in 24 -
characters and pacing. Which is alright for me - I don't expect
anything groundbreaking anyway. Something that is bugging me a little -
since this will be aimed at hardcore fans I just would like to see more
references towards the old series (so far we got just one for Edgar
Stiles and waiting for Tony Almeida to appear).
The new lead is quite alright, also I never thought that 24 should end
with Kiefer (don't get me wrong he was born to play this role) so I am
not taking out any points for him missing.
To conclude: it is the same old done according to the standards.
Nothing more, nothing less.
Based on premiere, huh. It's still 24, that's for sure. Show opens with
3 nearly omnipotent Muslim terrorists wiping out 4 Army Rangers on
their own turf. That's the fascinating part of 24: enemies so horrible
they're barely real.
But then, all the check boxes will get ticked really quickly...
High-position spy in CTU? Check. Probably not the spy after all, but a
guy holding grudges and keeping CTU back for the rest of the season,
but someone else actually is a spy? Probably.
CTU HQ being a damp, dark basement with question how analysts don't go
blind in this place never got asked? Check.
Generating "4D environment" from 3 cameras? (what) Check.
Computers still not using mice? Check.
Computers that zoom, open files and slides with no input while
someone's talking about the same stuff? Check, somewhat.
I'll bet next episodes will have "tapping into trunk lines" and
"opening protocols" and all that other dumb techno babble that has no
basis in reality. I'm still sad to see that this, very essential part
hasn't really matured. Could someone go over and hit producers' face
with a laptop?
Moving over large distances in insanely short time? Check. I wouldn't
be surprised if all the other tropes are there too, such as:
The initial plot gets resolved and then turns into part of much bigger
plot in the mid- season
CTU has actually 2 double agents / CTU gets attacked directly (or
hacked)
One of the friendly characters turns into bad one (my bets are on
Isaac, protagonist's gangster brother... or her jealous girlfriend) etc
Eh, well. Another essential part of 24 has always been the protagonist.
I think "Legacy" is on shaky grounds here too - while Jack Bauer was
not only an ex- special forces soldier, he was also a seasoned
operative. New lead is not, and his experience, while not explained
yet, seems to be very low. So we get a young un' with a gun, doing all
kinds of crazy antics involving shooting ropes off sewer pipes and
running into three gunmen or having prolonged debates with ex-colleague
while said gunmen are basically next to him.
It's fresh, but not quite 24. Then again, I'd not rather see poor Jack
Bauer suffer through another season of torture, beating, pain of loss,
and endless betrayal by both friends and enemies. So all that's left to
see is how quickly new kid picks up the trade.
So far, it's classic 24, but all the horrible faults and tropes are
still there, too. I wonder how many seasons it takes to clean them up.

Seems to be impossible to give a Spoiler Alert for this show as you seen it all before. Legacy is similar to original, same feel in a sense, but this seems like 24 the soap opera edition and poorly written soap with clichéd black character types. Lead as yet don't stand out. Had expected more innovation than poor imitation. It would be nice to see characters which went against the stereo-typical,here you know in advance, what they will say , how they will say it and you even know exactly how they will walk with attitude. Besides the writing being poor, it is mostly a rehash from the past easily anticipated. If this series is to survive the writers have to come up with clever dialogue to give the characters some depth, creative not rehashed diatribe we have seen so many times before.
nothing really connects this time, there does not seem to be any emotional connection between the lead hero and her wife, it looks like everyone is forced to play their character. Plot suggests a large sleeper cell attack is being planned on American Soil, from CTU to Lead hero no one's expression, action suggests that a threat is really looming over their country. Lousy acting what is all I see this time. I have tried three episodes and every episode has decreased my interest in the show. Jimmy Smits seems more convincing in his role than any one else. But i truly hope this show gets better as the time goes by but for now i am not too sure if will really keep audience attracted to it.
So much non-Point Of View shaky cam. This may have added some suspense
back with Day One of 24 when we were mostly watching on 23-32" 480i
CRTs, but with so many people today having 60" screens and more, the
constant jogging around of the camera doesn't look suspenseful, it
doesn't add tension, it looks like someone is purposefully wobbling the
camera around all the time and it looks...STUPID!! Seriously, if you're
running behind someone that's fair enough even though I believe all
non-POV shaky cam has no place on the screen (if it doesn't represent
someone's point of view and isn't a documentary, why is it moving
around?) it is still a little more forgivable in this circumstance. But
when someone is just standing in an office talking on the phone and you
can plainly see the camera making seizure-like movements the entire
time...it's utterly ridiculous.
Makes me wonder if Jon Cassar and all the team of directors and
producers are watching only on 22" professional calibration monitors
and not seeing literally the bigger picture. I lasted through the first
30 minutes of last night's premiere and had to turn it off, the shaky
cam was so intrusive that it made enjoying the show virtually
impossible.
I've been longing to someday revisit 24 and with The X-Files Blu-ray
set coming out figured someday soon Fox might do 24, but I will need to
watch a few clips online on YouTube or something like that to see if
the shaky cam is as egregious back then as it was last night - if so,
my desire to re-watch the first five amazing "days" of Jack Bauer will
likely experience a complete 180 degree reversal.
Angry people shouting, and crying everywhere, the dialogue had no other
dialogue. Apart from all of the usual renegade break protocol to get
the job done, tripe. Who are they selling this to. What really grabbed
me was spot that white person, because if they weren't female, or
somebody else getting sucker punched. It was where is waldo? There was
no other line in between. Well it just isn't my demographic, I might as
well be watching mutant super ninjas, because that makes sense.
The acting was utterly terrible, when he posses holding guns shooting,
the targeting is not even on target, I know it's just a toy but try.
Like episode one in his home he gets the terrorist gun. The terrorist
conveniently happens to be standing behind glass, behind a chair that
can lean back, and the wooden chair that he's tied up on shatters by
the impact of it hitting the floor, causing the terrorist to drop that
gun. He gets the gun and then shoots another terrorist outside aiming
at his GF, but where is he pointing that gun, it is aiming at his GF's
head. Later his arms are flailing about emphasizing angry speech
emotions upon talking to his other squad member was comedy.
I literally just finished watching the old series last night, so this was perfect timing! I enjoyed the first episode, there's plenty of good actors, the story seems to be fine too, and it's all very much the same as the previous series, which is not a bad thing. The wife\girlfriend part of the story is a bit boring as is usually the case but it's something you've just got to live with. I've seen people giving very harsh reviews of this and I don't think they're justified, it's probably just some people throwing a hissy-fit because Bauer isn't there. I've seen a lot of reboots that were much worse and don't have that 'magic' that the original series had (MacGyver), but I don't think that's the case here. People are always very critical of reboots, spin-offs and sequels no matter how good they are. I'm going to give it an 8/10 for the time being, I might come back in a few weeks to reevaluate..
Only ignorant, racism people as the previous reviewer will describe the show as "pathetic black-washed crap" 24 has always and will always be one my favorite TV show. Jack Bauer was a great agent, but just because Eric Carter is black, this doesn't make him any less of a great actor than Jack. So people grow up, and try to evolve. Carter is fine. He has a warm voice That's make him sound very interesting. He has such a high lethal confidence when he's kicking ass, which convince me of his character. And there's no undying of his anger and frustration to spill blood after finding out that they've killed most of his crew, so I'm positive that he has more than enough to fill Jack's shoes when he joined CTU.
First of all let me say ,that i regard 24 as a legendary show,in the
top-3 TV series ever made for television and the character of Jack
Bauer, probably the best ever character in a TV show.Kiefer Sutherland
has acted so well, that you actually think that he has a double life, one
as an actor and one as a CTU agent, that's how well he has played his
role.
So when you put the logo of 24 on a new show with no one of the
previous cast present(at least till now),but keep the same form of
direction and play(events occur in real time)you make your first and
fatal mistake. You can't help but compare, everything you see to the
original 24 series. The answer from the producers of the new show to
this, was action, action, action.I saw the first two episodes and in the
first 2 hours there were so many things that have happened, that it came
to the point to be a little funny. It's the only ''weapon'' that they
have in making you watch the show, don't let the rhythm fall and make
you bored. But it feels from the first minute that they overdoing it.
Also the magic of 24 was that even if it was an all action packed
show, the characters were very well ''builded'' and the dialogues
between them very well written, giving to 24 many times a sense of a
political thriller. Here you get the feeling that Eric Carter, the
leading character is traveling in time to be able to do all the things
he needs to do.And it's unfair to Corey Hawkins who plays Eric Carter
because he acts well, but he has to live with the burden of being
compared to his predecessor.
Overall it would have been much better if the producers had made a show
without the logo of 24 and with just the real time event format, the
only common thing between the 2 shows.I will watch it out of respect
for the effort and because of curiosity, but it already feels like a
poor relative.

I absolutely love the show "24" and was really looking forward to this
series.
Episode #1 wasn't bad but Episode #2 is where this show got extremely
stupid *** SPOILERS BELOW *** Breaking in to a police station to steal
money to pay off his friend? Your telling me a government protection
agency like CTU which has the Presidents doesn't have the resources to
either request the money or get it elsewhere? I'm sorry, I know the
show takes liberties but this is beyond any scope of believability.
They lost me here.
To add; Carter looks too young and out of his league to be believable
as a hero. I just didn't get behind him.
Let's pretend this season never happened...
