Saoirse Rhymes With Inertia – TheWrap’s Pronunciation Guide to Awards Season 2016 (Video)

12 hours ago | The Wrap | See recent The Wrap news »

Dennis Quaid kicked up a Twitter storm when he mispronounced Saoirse Ronan‘s name while announcing the Golden Globe nominations on Thursday morning. Rather than add to the negative backlash online, TheWrap decided to address the issue head-on and make a helpful video guide to tricky Hollywood names such as the “Brooklyn” star’s. Be honest, when you see Saoirse Ronan‘s name in print, your brain can hardly comprehend all those vowels in a row. You may know how to spell her name, but you have no idea how to say it. That’s where TheWrap comes in. At »

Dennis Quaid Gets Mocked for Butchering Saoirse Ronan’s Name at Golden Globe Nominations

10 December 2015 7:57 PM, PST | The Wrap | See recent The Wrap news »

Dennis Quaid was the surprise hit of Thursday’s Golden Globe Award nominations, for all the wrong reasons. The veteran actor totally butchered Irish actress Saoirse Ronan‘s name while reading her nomination for Best Actress in a Drama. “Sheesha Ronan, ‘Brooklyn,'” the presenter said — and the Twitter world went wild. Also Read: Golden Globes Nominations: The Complete List Just like when John Travolta infamously renamed Idina Menzel as “Adele Dazeem” at the Oscars in 2014, Quaid quickly became the butt of endless jokes. “Dennis Quaid and John Travolta should totally do a Hooked on Phonics ad,” one witty Twitter user wrote. »

Four Actors Receive 2 Golden Globe Nominations in 2016: How Likely Is It That Each Star Will Win Both Awards?

10 December 2015 9:28 AM, PST | E! Online | See recent E! Online news »

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association really, really liked four actors in 2015. Angela Bassett, America Ferrera, Chloë Grace Moretz and Dennis Quaid announced the nominees for the 72nd Annual Golden Globe Awards at the Beverly Hilton Thursday. Four different actors are being honored in two separate categories: Idris Elba, Mark Rylance, Lily Tomlin and Alicia Vikander. Theoretically, only three of the four actors nominated in 2016 can walk away with two awards. Elba earned a nod in the Best Performance by an Actor in a Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television category for his role in Luther. If he wins, it will prevent Rylance from taking home the award for his role in Wolf Hall (and vice versa). Other »

Dennis Quaid Is the John Travolta of 2016 Golden Globe Pronunciations

10 December 2015 7:21 AM, PST | Moviefone | See recent Moviefone news »

We all make mistakes, but we like them best when they're made live by celebrities during major public events.

The 2016 Golden Globe Award nominations were just announced this morning, and not only did the show confuse presenter America Ferrera with not-even-there Gina Rodriguez, Dennis Quaid offered some interesting new pronunciations for nominee names.

You'd think by now they would practice -- since this is a One Job situation -- but maybe they like the attention? Quaid had a couple of name stumbles, including one semi-understandable one and one he really should know by now. The really should know one is "Veep" nominee Julia Louis-Dreyfus, who is nominated for every TV award every year and wins every year so her name is spoken every year. Tip: It's Louis like Louis C.K. of "Louie," not "Louise" like "Thelma and Louise."

Also, Dennis Quaid, how, after 30 years of her being on TV, do »

2016 Golden Globes Film Nominations: Snubs and Surprises

While some actors and actresses had a shocking morning in Hollywood, others may have just turned down the shades and went back to bed.  During the Thursday morning announcement, America Ferrera, Chloë Grace Moretz, Angela Basset and Dennis Quaid took the stage to announce the nominees for the 2016 Golden Globes—and boy, did they turn our expectations on their heads.  After nominations for the 2016 SAG Awards were announced a day earlier, we developed some initial ideas of how this coming awards season might look, but as is typical of Hollywood awards shows, our assumptions were quickly shattered.  One of the most predominant surprises was the Best Supporting Actor nomination for »

Golden Globes Twitter Account Misidentifies America Ferrera as Jane the Virgin Nominee Gina Rodriguez

America Ferrera and Gina Rodriguez are not the same person. The rest of the world knows that, of course, but the Golden Globes' official Twitter account apparently does not. Ferrera joined actors Angela Bassett, Chloë Grace Moretz and Dennis Quaid at the Beverly Hilton Hotel Thursday to announce the nominees for the 73rd Annual Golden Globe Awards. Ferrera, who won the 2007 Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series – Comedy or Musical for her starring role in ABC's Ugly Betty, was the first announcer to take the stage at 5:15 a.m. Pt. The Golden Globes' Twitter account shared a photo of her at the podium and misidentified her as Rodriguez not once, but twice. The »

Fury Road, The Revenant, and Carol dominate Golden Globe nominations

10 December 2015 6:11 AM, PST | Cineplex | See recent Cineplex news »

There’s no way to predict the Golden Globes.

With their mercurial genre categories – The Martian is somehow a “Musical or Comedy” – and a tendency to treat its nominee shortlist more like a guest list to a party, the Globes are the Oscars’ younger, rowdy, and sometimes outrageous younger brother.

This morning, Angela BassettAmerica FerreraChloë Grace Moretz, and Dennis Quaid were awake bright and early to help announce the mixed bag of nominees for the fourteen film categories of the 73rd annual Golden Globes.  The "Best Picture" race is split between two categories, "Drama" and "Musical or Comedy," the latter of which often allows for some surprising nominees. This year, Spy, the broad comedy starring Melissa McCarthy, banked a nom out of nowhere, joining expected nominees JoyThe Big ShortTrainwreck, and... The Martian. We still don't understand how space potatoes are particularly funny or musical. Heading up the "Drama" category, »
