Halo Wars 2 Review

Real-time strategy games don’t have a great track record on consoles. This is for a number of reasons, but the big one is that the complexities of the genre are tailor-made for a mouse and keyboard rather than a controller. However, there’s one notable example that showed that the genre could work well on even when it isn’t on PC, and that’s the Xbox 360 exclusive Halo Wars. Despite being a success both critically and commercially, the 2009 release didn’t usher in a golden era of Rts games on consoles. Instead, the genre continued to get PC ports that lacked polish, and it seems like all of the design lessons that developer Ensemble Studios had shown in the company’s swan song went ignored.

Fast forward eight years, and developer Creative Assembly has been given the Halo Wars mantle. This isn’t their first attempt at making an Rts game for consoles, »

Chip Zdarsky Reveals More About His Peter Parker: The Spectacular Spider-Man Series

Yesterday, we learned that writer Chip Zdarsky will pen a new Spider-Man series titled Peter Parker: The Spectacular Spider-Man, which kicks off this June after a special Free Comic Book Day issue. Promising to take the wall-crawler back to basics, it’s going to revolve around some more grounded adventures for the iconic superhero.

That’ll come as welcome news to fans, especially after years of seeing Peter take on a Tony Stark type role as the CEO of Parker Industries as he embarks on adventures all over the world. Now, in a new interview, Zdarsky has talked more about Peter Parker: The Spectacular Spider-Man, promising that he’ll provide a take on the character which is satisfying to comic fans.

“I don’t think I’ll be bringing anything to Spider-Man as a character that hasn’t been seen lately in “Amazing,” it’s just contextual stuff, really. Dan [Slott]’s telling a big, »

Patrick Stewart Is Open To Returning As Professor X After Appearing In Logan

Hugh Jackman has said on multiple occasions now that Logan will mark his final appearance as Wolverine, but what about Patrick Stewart’s Professor X? The signs do seem to be pointing to the character’s story coming to an end here, but what does that mean for his future in the X-Men franchise?

Chances are that James McAvoy will continue playing the younger Charles Xavier, but that doesn’t mean we won’t see more of Stewart’s version, which is something the actor was keen to point out in a recent interview. Asked specifically if he’s walking away from the powerful psychic mutant after Logan, the legendary thesp replied:

“Hugh has raised the flag that says goodbye. I haven’t done that yet.”

Stewart first played Professor X in the original X-Men movie way back in 2000, and has since shown up in all but a few releases set in this cinematic universe. »

Breaking The Darkness: Exploring Legion Season 1, Episode 2

The following is a recap of the first two episodes of FX’s Legion. The first outing introduced us to David Haller (Dan Stevens), a “mutant” living in a mental hospital called Clockworks. Through non-linear storytelling and an exploration of David’s world, we learned that our protagonist has lived his life believing that his telekinetic and telepathic superpowers are a mental illness.

During the pilot, we also get acquainted with some of the major events in his recent life. These include switching bodies with his girlfriend, Syd Barrett (Rachel Keller), and escaping his mental hospital, Clockworks, during which his friend Lenny (Aubrey Plaza) dies in a wall that he may have created; returning home to his sister and talking with Lenny, his recently-deceased friend; getting captured and interrogated by a sinister governmental organization, before escaping with the help of Syd and fellow mutants; and joining up with a team of other superhumans, »

More From The Web Click to zoom

This week, we finally got our first look at Thor: Ragnarok thanks to behind the scenes photos and concept art, but there’s still an awful lot we don’t know about the movie. The basic premise of a de-powered God of Thunder being sent by Hela to a gladiatorial arena to take on the Hulk is already out there, but what else director Taika Waititi will be bringing to the table is unclear.

After all, the filmmaker has never tackled a project this big, and while his back catalogue is excellent, his quirky comedies are worlds away from the epic action that fans expect from the upcoming threequel. We’ve still got at least a few more months to go before we get the first bit of footage from Ragnarok, but talking in a »

Arrow Producer Teases The Eventual Reveal Of Prometheus’ Identity

Season 5 of Arrow has introduced a new big bad in the form of Prometheus, a character who shares a name with someone from the comic books, but is in actual fact an entirely new creation. As a result, we have no idea who’s beneath the mask, and that’s something The CW series has been teasing us with for months now.

There are a lot of different theories out there, but at this stage, most fans would just like to know when the show plans on revealing Prometheus to both us and the members of Team Arrow. Now, in a new interview, executive producer Marc Guggenheim has confirmed that they’ve known who the villain is from the start and that we can expect to learn more about his plans soon.

“Yes, we did. And no, it hasn’t changed. We always go in with a plan, and do »

Gore Verbinski Reveals Why The BioShock Movie Never Happened

It’s no secret that video game adaptations are tough, actually, make that impossible to nail. So many have tried and failed and even the ones that held much potential (we’re looking at you, Warcraft and Assassin’s Creed) ended up disappointing the vast majority of people. That’s why it’s pretty shocking that BioShock, a video game series that seems absolutely perfect for a big screen adaptation, has never been given the treatment.

It’s certainly not for a lack of trying, though. If you recall, back in 2008, Gore Verbinski was attempting to get a film based on the property off the ground and while things seemed promising at first, Universal eventually put an end to his plans by grounding the project, citing budget concerns as the main reason for not pushing ahead with it. Fans everywhere were crushed and ever since, there’s really been no »

The Clone Conspiracy #5 Delivers A New Status Quo For Spider-Man Moving Forward

Today saw the release of The Clone Conspiracy #5, the final instalment of Dan Slott and Jim Cheung’s Spider-Man event. Reviews for the issue have been mixed so far, with many declaring it an unsatisfying and rushed conclusion to a story which probably could have done with at least another instalment or two so it could be told in a satisfying manner.

Regardless, the world of the wall-crawler has been left in a very intriguing place, as has the fate of Ben Reilly. While Peter Parker managed to stop the signal which would have killed not only the clones created by the Jackal but anyone within range of it, The Clone Conspiracy wrapped up with a number of classic Spider-Man villains back among the living. Unfortunately, their identities have been kept a mystery, but we can definitely expect them to return somewhere down the line, something which could have huge ramifications for the iconic hero. »

Rian Johnson Shares Star Wars: The Last Jedi Set Photo, Confirmed For Celebration

Ever since the title of Rian Johnson’s follow-up to The Force Awakens was officially announced as Star Wars: The Last Jedi a few weeks back, galaxy far, far away fans have been chomping at the bit for their first glimpse of some footage from the highly anticipated sequel. Speculation (and, frankly, common sense) pointed to that first teaser being screened at Star Wars Celebration Orlando in April, and sure enough, it’s now been confirmed that Johnson will be in attendance.

StarWars.com has announced that the director will appear alongside Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy on Friday, April 14, for a special panel discussion. Though specific details on what fans can expect to see are still under wraps, there are sure to be some awesome special guests and a few other surprises, too. More From The Web Click to zoom

After much uncertainty, it seems as if we’ll definitely be getting a Suicide Squad 2. Those box office numbers proved to be strong enough to justify a sequel and now, Warner Bros. is on the hunt for a director. Earlier today, we heard that Mel Gibson was in talks, along with Daniel Espinosa and tonight, Variety is reporting that Zombieland‘s Ruben Fleischer and Warm BodiesJonathan Levine are also being eyed by the studio to take the helm.

From what we understand, there’s no clear frontrunner at the moment, given that it’s so early on in the search, and it’s expected that additional names will be added to the shortlist before a decision is made. When WB will settle on someone is unknown, but the project is definitely a priority »

Mel Gibson Enters Early Talks To Helm Suicide Squad Sequel For Warner Bros.

With David Ayer all tied up with the female-led spinoff Gotham City Sirens, Warner Bros. has reportedly turned to Mel Gibson to take point for the upcoming Suicide Squad 2.

At least, that’s according to THR, reporting that Gibson is now mulling over the possibility of directing Task Force X’s next outing. Without an official offer or any sign of concrete commitment from either party, we should stress that Gibson’s potential appointment is tentative at best, as WB is simply courting the actor-director-writer at this early, early stage.

THR goes on to note that Gibson, who recently received an Oscar nomination for his stellar work on WWII epic Hacksaw Ridge, is currently getting to grips with the source material. But given that Suicide Squad 2 – or whatever it winds up being titled – is considered a high-priority project for Warner Bros., the studio won’t wait around for long, and »

Helen Mirren’s Crucial Role In The Fate Of The Furious Has Finally Been Revealed

Charlize Theron isn’t the only Oscar-winning actress that the Toretto crew will have to contend with in The Fate of the Furious.

After expressing her surprisingly deep love for the series, Helen Mirren joined F. Gary Gray’s action sequel – formerly known as simply Fast 8 – in a mystery role last year and ever since, fans have been clamoring to find out exactly who she’ll be playing come April 14th. Well, wonder no more, as Yahoo! has confirmed that Mirren will portray the mother of Owen and Deckard Shaw, and is considered crucial in the plot.

Now that Vin Diesel’s musclebound Dominic Toretto has gone rogue, the remainder of Universal’s crew is forced to set aside old squabbles and partner with Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham) if they’re to stand any chance of taking down Charlize Theron’s Cipher. That ought to ensure Mirren has plenty of »

Kong: Skull Island Clip Brings Jordan Vogt-Roberts’ Reboot Closer In Line With Godzilla

“You are going to tell me everything I don’t know, or I’m gunna’ blow your head off.” That’s Samuel L. Jackson’s Lieutenant Colonel Packard, who can be seen holding Bill Randa (John Goodman) at gunpoint, demanding answers, in the tense new clip for Kong: Skull Island.

It’s a nail-biting standoff that has reared its head throughout the film’s appropriately monstrous marketing campaign, though up above we get the chance to see Goodman’s Bill Randa in a whole new light. As early rumors had suggested, Randa is an employee of Monarch, the mysterious organization first introduced in Gareth EdwardsGodzilla three years ago. That means Goodman’s character is well versed in both Skull Island’s extraordinary food chain and MUTOs (Massive Unidentified Terrestrial Objects), effectively strengthening the film’s ties to Legendary’s overarching MonsterVerse. What’s more, based on Jackson’s no-nonsense tone, »

Fighting With My Family Adds Three As Production Gets Underway

As if news of The Rock’s return to the wrestling world wasn’t exciting enough, Dwayne Johnson and his prolific Seven Bucks Productions have gathered together an exciting roster of talent for Fighting With My Family, the true-life drama poised to chronicle the life and career of WWE superstar Paige.

On the heels of Vince Vaughn’s casting, Johnson’s Instagram feed has confirmed today that Kim Matula, Ellie Gonsalves and Aqueela Zoll have capped off the film’s casting spree just as production gets underway. The post stops short of mentioning how each of their respective characters factor into the story, but given how Johnson alludes to their training regimes both in and out of the ring, it seems safe to assume that Matula, Gonsalves and Zoll will play three WWE Divas.

Elsewhere, writer-director Stephen Merchant (The Office, Portal) will shepherd Fighting With My Family as director, and »

Director Ryan Coogler Bigs Up The Dual Nature Of Black Panther

More From The Web Click to zoom

Even after the fallout from Captain America: Civil War, many would still consider Steve Rogers to be the moral anchor of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, even if his immediate future donning the stars and stripes is largely up for question – then again, we fully expect Joe and Anthony Russo to have Chris Evans’ star-spangled hero back in business in time for Thanos and Avengers: Infinity War.

Other members of the Avengers are more difficult to pin down, morally speaking. But when it comes to Chadwick Boseman’s Black Panther, Ryan Coogler believes that, because of his duty as a soldier, coupled with his ties to politics, the character of T’Challa exists in the grey area  between war and, essentially, pacifism. First spotted by ComicBook.com, Coogler touched base on Boseman’s conflicted lead during »

Xx Review

Xx – an all-female directed horror anthology – couldn’t push against genre representation at a better time. You’d think those involved would come out fiery, focused and full of appropriate rage given current gender voicelessness. This was a chance for horror to champion female filmmakers, yet assertions are tepid at best. Even past the failed settling of gender scores, Xx lacks horror establishment of the basest engagement. Only one chapter stands out (victorious because of competition), while three more efforts drag their feet without enthusiasm. No statement is made, no mic is dropped and no lasting message lingers past the credits. Enjoy another mixed bag of spooky stories that do no bumping in any night.

Please note, such disinterest isn’t because my feeble male brain can’t comprehend a different perspective. Three of the four main characters are mothers, all caught in family dilemmas. That’s not where my disconnection stems. »

Brutal Teaser Trailer For The Void Slithers Online

“There is a hell. This is worse.” Welcome to The VoidJeremy Gillespie and Steven Kostanski’s indie horror flick that has today conjured up its first, truly unsettling teaser trailer.

Even for a 30 second promo, The Void crams in just enough bloodsoaked nightmare fuel to leave us wanting more, and if the footage shown evokes memories of John Carpenter, it should. Before blazing a trial of their own, Gillespie and Kostanski worked in design and VFX across such high-profile productions as Pacific Rim, RoboCop and the Hannibal TV series, and the creative duo are “committed to introducing audiences to a unique horror-mythology” with their latest project.

It follows a small town sheriff (Aaron Poole) who finds himself in over his head after escorting an unassuming stranger to the local hospital. From there, things go from weird to downright bizarre, and the teaser above crams in a shotgun blast of »

The Flash Prepares To Enter Gorilla City In Dynamic New Poster

After taking a break in observance of Valentine’s Day, The Flash looks to come back strong next week as it continues to embrace its comic book heritage with the two-part “Gorilla City” event.

So far, the series has delighted viewers with incredible interpretations of villains such as the Reverse Flash, Zoom and Captain Cold, but when more fantastical baddies like Gorilla Grodd or King Shark are brought to life via CGI, many a fanboy have had reason to cheer. Personally, I think that some things that originate on the page don’t work as well in live-action, but the execution has been pretty good to this point, so I can’t really complain much.

With less than a week to go until “Gorilla City” officially commences, the network has released a cool new poster, something they’re no stranger to doing when promoting the more significant episodes of each DC series to be aired. »

Espionage Thriller Red Sparrow Taps Ciarán Hinds As Russian Officer

Irish actor Ciarán Hinds, best known for his roles in Game of Thrones and Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, is the latest addition to Red Sparrow, the espionage thriller in the works from Francis Lawrence (The Hunger Games).

Hinds will play a high-ranking Russian official known as Zyugonov, who presides over much of the country’s intelligence agency. In light of today’s casting coup, he now joins an ensemble that includes Joel Edgerton, Matthias Schoenaerts, Jeremy Irons, Joely Richardson and Jennifer Lawrence, marking the latter’s first collaboration with Francis Lawrence post-Panem. Indeed, the Oscar-winner has laid claim to a juicy role in Red Sparrow, after securing the part of Russian intelligence officer Dominika Egorova more than a year ago.

Under the cast-iron bureaucracy of Russian intelligence, Dominika is trained as a seductress, one considered indispensable in the mission of surveilling budding CIA officer Nathaniel Nash (Edgerton). It tees up »

Rumored Black Lightning Plot Details Surface

When it was first said that fan favorite DC superhero Black Lightning would be coming to television, many high fives likely occurred. But when word got out that the show would no longer be at Fox and instead join The CW’s Arrowverse, it stands to reason that those same fans danced with joy.

As the road to pilot season kicks off, speculation begins to run rampant as we eagerly await casting news. But, thanks to Slash Report, we may have our first details concerning the series’ plot. And from the sound of their description, it seems rather promising:

“In present day Watts, the One Hundred street gang is winning the war against the Lapd and the local citizens. Jefferson Pierce, 40, is the principal of the local high school. He’s been separated from his wife Lynn for over a decade ever since he stopped being the superhero Black Lightning. »
