Britain needs a talkshow host as strong as Jimmy Fallon!

12 hours ago | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Rather than Commenting on the Critics, this week it’s a Comment on Television…

This morning, scrolling through the articles on a Facebook feed, I am recommended a clip from The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. This time, it is Kevin Spacey as part of a barbershop quartet. Indeed, Fallon himself is amongst the singers and, not only is it hilarious as they perform Jason Derulo’s ‘Talk Dirty’ in vocal harmony but this is also thought-through, viral entertainment. Jimmy Fallon’s YouTube feed has a wealth of high-ranking stars performing the most comedic sketches. Recently, Jonah Hill, Justin Timberlake and Fallon turned Twitter into a literal conversation, hashtags included, to become a hypnotic and endlessly repeatable (“hashtag addictive”) clip. It also proves how skilled Fallon himself is. He holds his own against the highest ranking musicians and actors.

In the UK, we have quite a few talk-show hosts. The »

Kevin Spacey joins Jimmy Fallon's barbershop group to sing 'Talk Dirty' -- Video

3 May 2014 8:50 AM, PDT | EW.com - PopWatch | See recent EW.com - PopWatch news »

Whether it’s with classroom instruments or by impersonating Tom Petty, you never quite know how Jimmy Fallon is going to cover a hit song on The Tonight Show. Somehow, the late-night host still manages to surprise — and his interpretation of Jason Derulo’s stomper “Talk Dirty” is no exception.

For Derulo’s hit, Fallon brought back his barbershop group, The Ragtime Gals, on Friday. There are primary color-striped blazers, bow ties, jaunty hats, and…Kevin Spacey.

“I’ve been around the world, don’t speak the language/But your booty don’t need explaining” never sounded so delightful. Take »

Kevin Spacey joined up with Jimmy Fallon and the Ragtime Gals on Friday's Tonight Show. Their song of choice to clean up? Jason Derulo's "Talk Dirty." Spacey acquitted himself wonderfully. But more importantly, later in the episode he showed off his impersonation of Bill Clinton telling him how much he likes House of Cards. (We'll post that when it becomes available online.)

Pharrell Williams' 'Happy' scores its 10th week at the top

30 April 2014 1:51 PM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

As Pharrell Williams continues his reign atop the Billboard Hot 100 for the 10th week, “Happy” joins the ranks of only 28 songs that have logged that much time at No. 1 in the chart’s 55 years. The all-time record belongs to Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men’s “One Sweet Day,” which spent 16 weeks at No. 1 in 1996-1996, but Williams has an ace in his pocket: he was featured on the last song to top the chart for more than 10 weeks: Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines,” featuring Williams and T.I. The big question is if “Happy” will finally be toppled next week by John Legend’s “All of Me,” which has been stuck at No. 2 for six weeks. Legend’s song continues to gain steam at radio and via streaming. As they have before, Jason Derulo’s “Talk Dirty,” featuring 2 Chainz, and Katy Perry’s “Dark Horse,” featuring Juicy J, trade places, »

It's the biggest night in Australian TV, with reality shows, comedy and heavyweight drama all vying for the big prizes. Join us as we find out who's sweeping the board and who's going home empty-handed

11.28pm Aest

It's ended! Twitter can now go to rest, knowing that it did its job: howling in 140-character chunks at no one in particular about a thing we could all just be watching in silence.

Thanks for sharing and commenting below if you did. It kept Alex and myself from tearing our fingernails out.

11.22pm Aest

The credits are there. This is definitely, somehow ending. And yet they're still broadcasting. Do I have to blog this bit? Do I have to live blog the hedonism of the television industry as I sit here with my left leg that's now got moss growing on the inside?

11.20pm Aest

It's official. Scott Cam's got the biggest deck in Australia. »

Pharrell Williams' 'Happy' makes it a fine nine at the top

23 April 2014 4:36 PM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

“Happy” remains atop the Billboard Hot 100 for a ninth week, making Pharrell Williams one of only six solo male artists to spend a cumulative half year at No. 1, according to Billboard. It’s been quite a time for Williams, especially when you consider that one of his biggest hits as a featured artist, Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky,” did reach No. 1.  However, the following songs did: Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines,” featuring Pharrell and T.I. (12 weeks), Snoop Dogg’s “Drop It Like It’s Hot” (3 weeks) and Ludacris’ “Money Maker,” (2 weeks). Usher holds the record for solo males at 47 acts, while Mariah Carey leads all artists with 70 weeks total at No. 1. Back to this week, after three static weeks, there’s a little movement afoot now. John Legend’s “All of Me” stays at No. 2, but Jason Derulo’s “Talk Dirty,” featuring 2 Chainz moves 4-3, trading places with Katy Perry’s “Dark Horse, »

A No. 2 is hip-hop singer August Alsina’s debut album, "Testimony,” with 190,000.  Rock band Needtobreathe enters at No. 3 with “Rivers In the Wasteland" (49,000), earning its highest-charting effort to date. Its 2011 album, "The Reckoning,” debuted and and peaked at No. 6. Jason Derulo’s "Talk Dirty” scores his first-ever top 10 album, starting at No. 4 with 44,000. His 2010 self-titled debut sold 42,000 copies in its first week. The title track off "Talk Dirty” hit No. 1 on the pop songs airplay chart this week. 'Frozen' refuses to melt out of the top spot on the album chart

19 April 2014 4:18 PM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

“Frozen’s” hold on the Billboard 200 has yet to thaw. In fact, it seems to be gathering strength. Next week will mark the Disney soundtrack’s 11th week atop the Billboard 200, as it sells more than 200,000, its biggest week yet. The reason for the jump? Starbucks is now selling the title, according to Hits Daily Double. Next week will also mark the week that “Frozen” surpasses “The Lion King” for the most weeks at No. 1 for an animated feature. Targeted to move up to 250,000 copies, “Frozen” will sell almost 200,000 copies more than the No. 2 title, hip-hop artist August Alsina’s “Testimony” (65,000). Alsina has the highest debut but he’s far from the only newcomer coming on strong next week: Needtobreathe’s “Rivers in the Wasteland” and Ingrid Michaelson’s “Light’s Out”are both poised to sell up to 45,000 copies as they duke it out for third place.
