0/10 (G)

Two characters have a love affair, and there is some discussion about it though nothing is ever shown. One scene has frank discussion about it.

A married couple kisses or hugs frequently throughout the movie, though nothing ever happens, but they constantly show their affection

3/10 (PG)

The King's Speech relates to speech for war

King George V is shown dead in his bed.

News about Nazi-fueled atrocities is broken, but no gruesome images are shown.

Many war Themes.

Almost all language uses (and certainly all uses of strong profanities) are in a therapeutic context. The therapist is trying to cure his patient's stutter, and he has him get angry and swear. The man swears rapidly for about 10 seconds and then stops. The scene is somewhat comical, the swear words are not focused on, and it is strictly in a therapeutic context.

R rated version: 5/10

18 uses of "f--k" (with 3 being mouthed)

20 uses of "s--t"

Anatomical and scatological terms (willies, balls, tits)

There are also other minor profanities scattered throughout the movie, such as bloody, hell, damn, bugger, ba---rd and arse.

PG-13 rated version: 3/10

1 use of "f--k."

20 uses of "s--t."

1 use of "bastard."

3 uses of "damn."

Language overall: 4/10

4/10 (PG-13)

Men drink casually. There is no immoderate alcohol drinking.

Some characters, including the main character, smoke. The main character is seen smoking at least 10 times.

6/10 (PG)

The atmosphere is light and pleasant, even if the prince's initial speech is painful to watch at seeing him so publicly embarrassed. There are also other difficult moments, but nothing disturbing or shocking.

Total: 18/50

Suggested MPAA rating: PG- thematic elements (including war), historical smoking, and language

Don't let the R rating fool you; this is actually a good movie for everyone 9 and up. It's only rated R because of the language, but there are some PG-13 and even a few PG movies packed with a little more swearing. The film can be watched by 10/11 year olds, but they must watch with an adult.

MPAA:
Rated R for some language
