Fox NewsTucker Carlson squared off with USA Today deputy editor David Mastio over the paper’s recent editorial that likened White House chief strategist Steve Bannon to the terror organization Isis. Titled, “What Bannon shares with Isil leader: Our view,” the USA Today story begins: “What does President Trump’s chief strategist have in common with the leader of the Islamic State terror group? Both Steve Bannon and Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi share similar world views. Both harbor apocalyptic visions of a clash of civilizations between Islam and the West.” The host of “Tucker Carlson Tonight” started off his rhetorical »

Ratings: 400th ‘Law & Order: Svu’ Episode Seizes Best Numbers Since September

NBC captured some solid Nielsen numbers with its 400th episode of “Law & Order: Svu” last night, but that doesn’t mean it won the night. In a tie with Fox, Bob Greenblatt’s broadcast network finished runner-up to ABC in the key 18-49 demographic. NBC was second to CBS among overall audience. ABC actually finished fourth in eyeballs, falling behind Fox by an average of just 3,000 total viewers across primetime. It’s important to remember that ABC, CBS and NBC nationally program three hours per weeknight, while Fox and CW just do two. Also Read: Cats and Dogs: Puppy Bowl Rolls Over Kitten Bowl. »

Stephen Colbert Explains Senate Rule That Silenced Elizabeth Warren: ‘Bros Before Hoes’ (Video)

Good thing Stephen Colbert is here to educate us about confusing congressional bylaws. The “Late Show” host used an early portion of his Wednesday monologue to break down the little known Senate rule that was apparently invoked to silence Elizabeth Warren after she tried to read Coretta Scott King’s 1986 letter urging the rejection of Jeff Sessions as a federal judge. Evidently, Rule 19 “prohibits a Senator of impugning the character of another sitting Senator,” per Colbert’s lesson. So why were Bernie Sanders and other men later granted permission to read excerpts from the same letter on the same floor? »

Samantha Bee Praises Jake Tapper, CNN for Being Tough on Kellyanne Conway (Video)

Samantha Bee found herself in the strange position of actually praising CNN during this week’s episode of “Full Frontal,” notably for Jake Tapper’s handling of Kellyanne Conway. “First, after briefly banning Kellyanne Conway for being a flaxen-haired fountain of lies, CNN let her back through the gates, straight into Jake Tapper’s cage, and they haven’t fed him this week,” said Bee, setting up clips of Tapper repeatedly going after Conway for false statements. “Damn, Jake. Wow. I didn’t think CNN let you use the f-word on the air.” Bee also found a silver lining in »

‘Fifty Shades Darker’ Review: At Least They Look Like They’re Enjoying Themselves This Time

There’s a real temptation to cut the “Fifty Shades” films some slack; after all, almost every month sees the release of another superhero movie, designed to fulfill the power fantasies of boys of all ages. Even if the ongoing saga of Anastasia Steele (played by Dakota Johnson) is nothing but wish fulfillment, why should adult female audiences be deprived a vicarious shot at career advancement, gorgeous lingerie and a billionaire underwear model who’s fond of what the young hero of “20th Century Women” would refer to as “direct clitoral stimulation”? However, if you think that those same audiences also deserve characters. »

‘Legion': Does New FX Show Connect to the ‘X-Men’ Movies?

“X-Men” branding is all over FX’s “Legion,” a team-up with Marvel Entertainment to adapt the story of one of the “X-Men” universe’s most powerful mutants. But watch the hour-long premiere and you might be wondering where, exactly, “Legion” fits into the nebulous “X-Men” continuity — or if it fits at all. The film series already has six main movies, plus spin-offs in “X-Men Origins: Wolverine,” “The Wolverine,” “Deadpool” and the upcoming “Logan.” And 2014’s “X-Men: Days of Future Past” used time travel to rewrite the film timeline, essentially splitting everything before it into one universe and the newest ones into. »
