After being recruited to a secretive academy, a group of students discover that the magic they read about as children is very real and more dangerous than they ever imagined. But will getting hooked on the thrill of magic distract them from honing their powers when they need them most?
I'm loving this so much better than the books, what a strange sensation that is. Yes, this is very much like a older, darker harry potter mixed with Chronicles of Narnia. Lets put that aside, it's an old story with a new twist. Embrace it and move on.
Is it sticking to the books? hum, more or less. It's mashing the first two novels together, something I think works very well and keeps Julia in the action instead of disappearing into the sideline. Plus it should keep a darker contrast to magic, street-magic vs academia.
It's also fun seeing more of Esmé Bianco, while also seeing less of her (drum roll please), she crunches her scenes and she describes our main character Quentin so perfectly in the second episode, just perfect.
I dare you not to be intrigued by the ending of the first episode!
