‘Legion’ Recap: The Piper at the Gates of Wtf

3 hours ago | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Something new needs to happen soon.”

Thus says David Haller (Dan Stevens) to his sister (Katie Aselton) four-and-a-half minutes into the premiere of FX’s “Legion.” Like a red windshield scraper protruding from the show, the line is a marker indicating that new is indeed on its way. And that little foreshadowing is the most conventional bit of storytelling we get in the first installment of “Legion” — a relentlessly weird, relentlessly intriguing show that manages to stand out from the enormous crowd of the Peak TV era.

From “Fargo” writer and executive producer Noah Hawley, “Legion” tells the story of David Haller, played by “Downton Abbey” vet Stevens. David, as we earn in an opening montage set to The Who’s “Happy Jack,” was a baby, then a little boy, then a troubled teenager with some serious mental-health issues. Also maybe some superpowers.

For the initiated, this is not news. In »

‘Legion’ Premiere: The 9 Moments That Make It a Masterpiece

3 hours ago | Indiewire Television | See recent Indiewire Television news »

In terms of plot, the “Legion” premiere isn’t hard to summarize. David Haller (Dan Stevens) is committed to a mental institution after trying to kill himself. There, he falls in love with Syd Barrett (Rachel Keller), a woman who believes David’s “sickness” is what makes him special. But David might not actually be sick. He may have telekinetic and telepathic powers, and when Syd is allowed to leave and he isn’t, David uses those powers to get back to her.

Of course, the presentation of the plot — the story driving “Legion” — is much more complex. David is a damaged, untrusting young man seeking a connection to reality that his mind refuses to provide. Syd represents that connection and may be looking for a forbidden connection herself. The couple, joined by a group of similarly alienated individuals, rebel against their oppressors to find happiness within and among themselves… »

The Magicians Get Some Divine Elimination

4 hours ago | TVovermind.com | See recent TVovermind.com news »

I know I complained about the filler episode last week, but I see now why the writers chose to pack everything in this week. What a roller coaster! I was rooting for Julia, and then Alice, and then screaming at both! Really, after Jane the Virgin’s twist, I can only handle so much! The antics began with Martin’s curse on the throne. A hilarious sequence where the high kings and queens try to kill each other out of pure paranoia. Penny saves the day with a classic: stop-the-heart-temporarily, and revive it with adrenaline. So no one dies, yet. Meanwhile, Marina

If you follow Stephen Amell at all on social media, you know that for a little while now he’s been teasing an Arrow Season 5 episode in which he barely wears the Green Arrow suit at all, and tonight’s hour, “Bratva,” is indeed that episode, as Oliver, Diggle, and the rest of the team spend most of their time away from Star City as they try to track down General Walker and his team in Russia. The mission for Team Arrow in “Bratva” is pretty simple: travel to Russia, find Walker, and stop him and his team from selling a nuclear bomb.

Former Knicks Player Charles Oakley Arrested at Madison Square Garden

Former New York Knicks star Charles Oakley was arrested on Wednesday night at Madison Square Garden after an altercation in the stands near team owner James Dolan.

The former basketball player was handcuffed and wrestled to the ground by multiple security guards after shoving one of them during the first quarter of the Knicks-Clippers game, which was broadcast live on Espn.

It’s unknown what prompted the incident but Oakley, who used to be an enforcer for the Knicks back in the ’90s, could be heard blaming Dolan for the skirmish.

Charles Oakley came to the game tonight and behaved in a highly inappropriate and completely abusive manner,” the Knicks said in a statement. “He has been ejected and is currently being arrested by the New York City Police Department. He was a great Knick and we hope he gets some help.”
