Taylor & Francis Online – Reimagined, redesigned, responsive

Taylor & Francis Online, the home of over 2,400 online journals across Science, Technology and Medicine and Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities, has relaunched in August with a new design, fully responsive interface and significant functional improvements for researchers, readers and learned societies alike. The journals platform has been redesigned in response to user feedback, culminating in a more intuitive, readable and clutter-free interface that displays as-intended on any device.

We are also pleased to inform you that no changes have been made to the Librarians’ Area of Taylor & Francis Online, and your library will continue to have the same administrative and reporting capabilities over its institutional account as before the platform redesign. Journal and article URLs will also remain the same, and you won’t see any changes in linking between Taylor & Francis journal content and your discovery services. INASP and Research4Life Launch Research Advocacy Competition

INASP and Research4Life have announced a competition to recognize the critical role that professionals play in advocating their leaders to support research in their institutions and countries. The competition is open to all researchers, practitioners, librarians and policymakers whose institution is a registered user of one of the Research4Life programmes – Hinari, AGORA, OARE and ARDI or has access to research through an agreement mediated by INASP.

The winner – announced in November – will be invited to present their work at the annual Publishers for Development conference and Research4Life General Partners Meeting in the UK in July 2017. #ShareYourEprints – highlighting and sharing authors’ research

Did you know when an author publishes in a subscription-based Taylor & Francis or Routledge journal they receive a link to 50 free downloads of their article? An e-print link enables free access to the journal article and is a great way for researchers to encourage others to read their article as soon as it is published.

With every author included on an article receiving 50 free eprints each, it can be shared across a variety of networks: social media accounts, your institutional webpage or on professional sites such as LinkedIn. ORCiD: a primer for librarians

As a librarian, you may be compiling and tracking the research output at your institution. ORCiD, the digital identifier that links a researcher to their work, can help you by ensuring research activities can be easily distinguished and identified.

At Taylor & Francis, ORCiDs can be added to a manuscript as researchers make their online submission, with some of our journals now requesting that lead authors include these as standard.

But what is the role for librarians in promoting the use of ORCiD and how (and why) should you be raising awareness and encouraging their uptake in your institution? Recently published in Medical Reference Services Quarterly is a primer for librarians on ORCiD.

HEFCE Open Access policy: guidance for researchers publishing with us

April 1st saw the implementation of the Higher Education Funding Council for England's (HEFCE) Open Access policy. To ensure published research from UK-based authors is eligible for the next Research Excellence Framework in 2020, journal articles now need to be deposited in an institutional or subject repository as soon after acceptance as possible (and within three months of receiving the acceptance notice from the editorial office).

To ensure researchers who publish in our journals are clear on what action they need to take, we have created a visual guide for you to share. Whether you're publishing in a subscription journal or open access with Taylor & Francis, Routledge or Cogent OA, you can check what you need to do, with which version of your article, and when, using the guide.

Agents of value: the evolving role of librarians in India

Academia is experiencing significant change in technology and research methodology. The role of the librarian in India is transforming to keep up with this digital change.

In a new series of interviews, librarians at several academic libraries in India, including South Asian University, Delhi Technological University; Jawaharlal Nehru University and National Institute of Technology (NIT) Patna have spoken to Taylor & Francis about the multi-faceted role of the librarian in India and how this role is undergoing essential changes to continue to meet the needs of library users.

We found it fascinating to hear how the librarian roles are getting redefined to better understand the needs of the millennial library customer while embracing the potential of technology with more diverse - even ‘unconventional’ - skills than before. We are pleased to be able to showcase these as part of the Taylor & Francis Library Voices project, demonstrating the huge contribution libraries in India are adding to global library services.
