6 hours ago | Alt Film Guide | See recent Alt Film Guide news »

'Pixels' movie with Adam Sandler. 'Pixels' movie weekend box office: Adam Sandler vs. 'Ant-Man' Despite its underwhelming domestic box office debut last weekend, Marvel's Ant-Man may turn out to be the winner in North America this weekend (July 24–26, '15) thanks to another underwhelming debut: that of the Adam Sandler Pixels movie. According to weekend box office projections found at Variety, Pixels is expected to open with $25 million from 3,723 locations – following a $10 million Friday take (including $1.5M from Thursday previews). If so, that'll place Adam Sandler's latest lowbrow comedy – now in 3D – on a par with Sandler domestic disappointments like Jack and Jill and Funny People. Deadline.com, for its part, is expecting $27-$28 million by Sunday evening. Either way, Sandler can boast that Pixels will open quite a bit ahead of his domestic box office bombs That's My Boy ($13.45 million debut) and Blended ($14.28 million debut last year). Now, »

Peyton Reed reveals the original opening scene for Ant-Man

22 July 2015 3:07 PM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Yesterday we brought you some comments from Peyton Reed as he outlined the original ending for Marvel’s latest superhero blockbuster Ant-Man, and now the director has revealed an oepning scene that was shot, but ultimately discarded during post-production.

“It was basically a standalone sequence where you really did not see it was Hank Pym,” Reed said. “He was retrieving some microfilm from this originally Cuban general and then it because a Panamanian general… It really was designed in those early drafts to be almost like a Bond movie standalone scene in the beginning. It was going to show the powers. You never saw Ant-Man, it almost felt like an Invisible Man sequence, and it’s really, really cool. [It felt] tonally disconnected from the movie we were making and story-wise, [but] we actually talked at one point about releasing [it] like a standalone, Hank Pym as Ant-Man [short]. Who knows if that will still happen. »

Jurassic World becomes third biggest movie of all time after overtaking The Avengers

22 July 2015 12:52 PM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

After surpassing Furious 7 a couple of days ago, Jurassic World has now overtaken the worldwide box office haul of Marvel’s The Avengers to become the third-biggest movie of all time.

To date, the Colin Trevorrow-directed sequel has pulled in $1.522 billion, compared to The Avengers’ $1.520 billion (which included a re-release). However, second place may be a step too far, with James Cameron’s Titanic sitting on $2.186 billion.

So, it looks like it’s going to be a straight fight between Jurassic World and Star Wars: The Force Awakens for 2015’s biggest blockbuster. Where would you put your money?

Peyton Reed reveals alternate ending for Marvel’s Ant-Man

21 July 2015 2:39 PM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Warning: Spoilers for Marvel’s Ant-Man follow. You have been warned…

If you’ve seen Marvel’s latest blockbuster (or if you haven’t, but don’t mind spoilers), you’ll know that the film ends with a set-up for Scott Lang’s (Paul Rudd) next appearance in the McU in Captain America: Civil War, with Luis (Michael Pena) informing Scott that an Avenger – Falcon (Anthony Mackie) is on the look out for him.

Well, according to Peyton Reed, that wasn’t the original ending for the film, as the director has revealed to Cinema Blend that the initial plan was to tie up a loose end in Mitchell Carson (Martin Donovan), with Scott confronting the S.H.I.E.L.D. / Hydra agent:

“At the end of the movie [Carson] gets away and has these Cross particles, and there was a sequence where Ant-Man has an encounter with him,” states Reed. »

New trailer for ‘The Good Dinosaur’ introduces Pixar’s latest duo

21 July 2015 9:18 AM, PDT | SoundOnSight | See recent SoundOnSight news »

Pixar is psychic! Dinosaurs plus Pixar is gold this summer!

The latest trailer for the second movie from the studio this year debuted on Tuesday and offered a more focused look at The Good Dinosaur and the characters that will inhabit it. The film is directed by Peter Sohn and features a voice cast of Raymond Ochoa, Jeffrey Wright, Steve Zahn, Aj Buckley, Anna Paquin, Sam Elliot, Frances McDormand, Marcus Scribner, and Jack Bright.

The first teaser was more of an initial look at the film so people seeing Inside Out could get a taste of the second Pixar offering of the year while this one is more of a focused look at the main characters. It also works as a hint at the gorgeous visuals that will be on display, which may be some of the best that Pixar has done since Brave.

Watch: Judy Greer & Natasha Lyonne in 'Addicted to Fresno' Trailer

21 July 2015 9:15 AM, PDT | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

"Ya'll ready for this?!" Gravitas Ventures has debuted a trailer for the indie comedy Addicted to Fresno, from filmmaker Jamie Babbit (Breaking the Girls, Itty Bitty Titty Committee). This kooky indie stars Judy Greer & Natasha Lyonne as sisters at a hotel in Fresno, California. When one of them accidentally kills a guy, they go to extreme lengths to cover up the crime. The supporting cast includes Aubrey Plaza, Clea DuVall, Allison Tolman, Ron Livingston, Molly Shannon and Fred Armisen. This looks funny at times, but doesn't seem like anything that stands out in a crowd. At least it's nice to see more of Judy Greer. Here's the official trailer for Jamie Babbit's Addicted to Fresno, found on YouTube (via The Playlist): Synopsis: Two co-dependent sisters, a recovering sex addict and a lonely lesbian (played by Judy Greer and Natasha Lyonne) who work as hotel maids, go to ludicrous »

Watch: Judy Greer And Natasha Lyonne Cover Up A Crime In Trailer For 'Addicted To Fresno' With Aubrey Plaza, Fred Armisen, More

21 July 2015 7:48 AM, PDT | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

For those of you getting a bit bummed about Judy Greer spending the summer in thankless Blockbuster Mom roles (seriously Hollywood, she's great and deserves better), here's a movie that gives the actress so much more to do. "Addicted To Fresno" features Greer in the lead role alongside a pretty talented ensemble, in what looks like a pretty light-hearted comedy caper. Directed by Jamie Babbitt ("But I'm A Cheerleader") with Natasha Lyonne, Fred Armisen, Molly Shannon, Ron Livingston, Allison Tolman, and Aubrey Plaza among the players, the story follows a recovering sex addict and her lesbian sister, who work together at Fresno Suites and get caught up in covering up a crime after they accidentally kill a hotel guest. This looks light and breezy, but again, the highlight seems to be Greer given a major big screen spotlight. The film opens on October 2nd. Check out the trailer below. »

Warning: Spoilers for Ant-Man below…

A couple of weeks ago, Marvel head honcho Kevin Feige said there are big plans for The Wasp off the back of Ant-Man (read our reviews here and here), but now we could have some new light on what he means.

“It’s going to be certainly a part of our Phase 3; some of the films we’ve announced in Phase 3″ Kevin Feige revealed to Yahoo! “It is going to be a very important moment [in Ant-Man], and — spoiler alert! — we see that suit for the first time, and her father now is finally giving it to her and realizes that he can’t hold her back from what is essentially her destiny. It’s gonna be a very big part of one of our upcoming films.”

Could this be Captain America: Civil War? Or even Avengers: Infinity War?

Rudd Ant Hero Has Worst Marvel Cinematic Universe Domestic Debut to Date

'Ant-Man': Paul Rudd as Scott Lang. 'Ant-Man' box office below expectations: Lowest Marvel Cinematic Universe domestic debut Starring Paul Rudd as a bug-like (sizewise) action hero, Ant-Man was expected to open with $60-$65 million from 3,856 U.S. and Canada locations this past weekend, July 17-19, '15. That didn't happen. A mere three days ago, Variety enthused that Ant-Man was "marching to a solid $65 million weekend at the U.S. box office." But instead of a $65 million domestic debut like those of Thor and Captain America: The First Avenger, Ant-Man bowed with a considerably more modest $57.22 million (down from the studio's $58.04 million Sunday estimate), including Thursday evening screenings. This latest Marvel Cinematic Universe entry averaged a highly disappointing – especially for an McU entry with loads of steeper-priced 3D and IMAX / Pfl screenings – $14,841 per location. But really, why "highly disappointing"? Trailing 'The Incredible Hulk' Even taking into account the fact »
