Not The First Choice, But The Right Choice

4 hours ago | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

This week, Neil Calloway can’t imagine anyone else in La La Land…

There’s a genre of fiction known as alternative history, where writers speculate on “what ifs?” of history. You want to see what would happen if South African Neo-Nazis went back in time to intervene in the American Civil War? You got it. Aliens invading during the Second World War? It’s out there. The forthcoming TV series SS-gb is one of the many “what if the Nazis won the war?” stories out there, and one imagines that J.J. Abrams’s Overlord will have some sort of alternative history elements.

There’s a similar game to be played with film casting. Christopher Walken as Han Solo (Walken as Han Solo in David Lynch’s Return of the Jedi is the movie I want to see) and Oj Simpson as The Terminator are two famous examples. This week, »

Disney’s Beauty and the Beast pre-sales “rival those of a superhero movie”

19 hours ago | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Given that its trailer shattered records back in November with almost 130 million plays in its first 24 hours, Disney must be very confident that it has another hit on its hands with next month’s Beauty and the Beast, and early tracking seems to support that, with pre-sales rivaling “those of a superhero movie.”

“With its dazzling new trailers, [Beauty and the Beast] is creating tremendous buzz among movie fans of all ages,” said Erik Davis in a statement, managing editor of ticket site Fandango (via Market Watch). “Its pre-sales rival those of a superhero movie.”

Davis went on to reveal that Beauty and the Beast is currently outperforming advance ticket sales on Finding Dory, which grossed $486.3 million domestically and over $1 billion worldwide last year.

‘Beauty and the Beast’: Hear Ariana Grande and John Legend Sing Theme Song

20 hours ago | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Celine Dion and Peabo Bryson, meet Ariana Grande and John Legend.

After teasing the duet in a final trailer for “Beauty and the Beast” on Monday, Disney released Grande and Legend’s full track for the 2017 live-action remake’s title song a few days later.

The tune, composed by Alan Menken with lyrics from Howard Ashman, was performed by Angela Landsbury in the original 1991 film. It would go on to win best original song at the Golden Globes and Oscars. “Beauty and the Beast” also earned two Grammys and eight nominations. Dion and Bryson covered the song as a duet on the film’s soundtrack, making way for Grande and Legend’s recent iteration. In the remake, Emma Thompson will play Mrs. Potts and perform the tune once again. The updated film will also include new songs written by Menken and Tim Rice.

Update: On Jan. 28, Page Six published another story about both Emma Watson and Miles Teller's allegedly outlandish behind-the-scenes demands. Teller reportedly wanted an extra 2 million dollars, and Watson reportedly requested that all rehearsals be in London. Shortly thereafter, Teller tweeted about the reports, simply stating that Page Six and NY Post were "'reporting' alternative facts." Original post: If you've seen La La Land, chances are good that you don't even want to imagine anyone but Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone in the lead roles - but they weren't originally supposed to play those parts. In August of 2015, Miles Teller told Esquire that director Damien Chazelle originally offered him the lead in La La Land while they were working on Whiplash. He almost passed on War Dogs because of his commitment, then he got some unexpected news. "I got a call from my agent, saying, 'Hey, I just got a call from Lionsgate. »

Budweiser’s Cinematic Super Bowl Ad Tells an Immigrant’s Tale — Watch

31 January 2017 2:18 PM, PST | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

This year’s Budweiser Super Bowl commercial speaks to an issue that definitely hits home: immigration. The ad takes viewers back to 1857, when the brand’s co-founder Adolphus Busch emigrated from Germany to St. Louis, Missouri, in search of a better life.

In a time when our nation is engaged in a heated political debate over immigration and refugee rights, the 60-second spot may be seen as a political statement. However, Anheuser-Busch InBev‘s VP for Budweiser, Ricardo Marques, maintains that the focus of the ad is simply to tell a story of hard work and the pursuit of dreams against tough odds.
