New Line and DC Entertainment are doubling down on comic book hero Shazam!
New Line, which has been for over a decade developing a movie on the long-time DC character, will develop concurrently a movie centering on Black Adam, with Dwayne Johnson attached to star as Shazam’s arch-nemesis.

Amazon Studios will adapt Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett’s novel “Good Omens” into a six-episode limited series, the studio announced on Thursday. The 2006 novel takes place in 2018 when the Apocalypse is near and Final Judgment is set to descend upon humanity. Set to debut in 2018 on Prime Video, “Good Omens” will consist of six one-hour episodes entirely written by Gaiman, who will also serve as showrunner. The annual trek to Park City, Utah has already begun for the 2017 Sundance Film Festival, which runs Jan. 19 until Jan. 29. Peter Dinklage, Larry Wilmore, and Gael Garcia Bernal are among those named to the juries in this year’s competition. The awards will be handed out on Jan. 28 in a ceremony hosted by “The Daily Show” alum Jessica Williams.
In between all of the prizes and premieres, stars and film aficionados endure the cold temperatures with help from the city’s pop-up party scene, featuring swag, drinks and exclusive dinners.

Stephen Gaghan, the Oscar-winning filmmaker behind “Traffic” and “Syriana,” will write and direct video game adaptation “The Division,” Ubisoft Motion Pictures announced Thursday. The film will star Jake Gyllenhaal, who is also producing, and Jessica Chastain. Based on Ubisoft’s hit game “Tom Clancy‘s The Division,” the film is set in the aftermath of a small pox pandemic in dystopian New York. In the game, which set the Ubisoft record for highest first-day sales in company history, players attempt to rebuild, investigate and fight crime in the city. “An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power” kicked off the 2017 Sundance Film Festival Thursday night, bringing a strongly positive response from an audience of 1,200 at the Eccles Center Theater.
Though Al Gore announced in “An Inconvenient Sequel” that he is a recovered politician, the audience at the Sundance Film Festival reacted to the follow-up to 2006’s “Inconvenient Truth” liked they wish he would get back in the game.
Many stood at the end of the film, in which Gore compared the cause of climate change to other great moral causes — like women’s suffrage and civil rights.

Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment have decided to cancel this Saturday’s premiere of “A Dog’s Purpose” after a disturbing video emerged on Wednesday, showing a dog being forced into a raging torrent of water on the film’s set.
Universal released a statement saying Amblin’s review into the edited video “is still ongoing” and they have decided it is “in the best interest of ‘A Dog’s Purpose’ to cancel this weekend’s premiere and press junket.”
The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals subsequently called for a boycott of the movie in order to “send the message that dogs and other animals should be treated humanely, not as movie props.” It would appear that Universal and Amblin are feeling the pressure as a result, with the latter launching an “in-depth review” to get to the bottom of the incident.

The Directors Guild of America is investigating a threat in an anonymous email targeting guild members who opt to work on TV coverage of President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration.

Paramount Studios is opting to more than triple the number of North American locations this weekend for Martin Scorsese’s historical drama “Silence” as Oscar nominations loom Tuesday.
“Silence” will expand from 474 sites to 1,580 on Friday. It’s an optimistic move for a film that has failed to catch on with either awards voters or audiences so far.
The movie, set in 1640 Japan, has under-performed in a month of limited release with $3.8 million. During the Martin Luther King holiday weekend, “Silence” had a per-screen average of $5,010 — seventh-highest among the top 20 films.

For years, Pixar fans have harbored the sneaking suspicion that all their most beloved animated movies are connected and in fact take place in the same universe.
