ABC is continuing its pilot season momentum, picking up another two pilots, Variety has learned.

The network that has already picked up eight pilots has now ordered projects from Zach Braff and Daveed Diggs.

Sony Television and Davis Entertainment are producing.

Should “Start Up” go to series, it would mark Braff’s return to ABC, which »

The Magicians Season 2 Episode 1 Review: “Knight of Crowns”

2 hours ago | TVovermind.com | See recent TVovermind.com news »

Recently, series are known for their show stopping season premieres. Honestly,  The Magicians is not one of them, but “Knight of Crowns” was a great start to the second season. The Magicians surprised me last season. Somehow everything about it came together nicely, the effects, the cinematography, the relatable characters, and the dorkiness that Syfy brings to all of its content. Naturally, I was excited to see how season two would pick up after that nasty cliffhanger. “Knight of Crowns” tied up several loose ends from the first season. Elliot apologized to Alice, Margo apologized to Quentin for ruining his

Arrow Season 5 Episode 10 Review: “Who Are You?”

2 hours ago | TVovermind.com | See recent TVovermind.com news »

When the mid-season finale of Arrow aired back in December, I praised the episode, calling it one of the season’s best, but I also mentioned my reservations about Laurel’s return to the show. My concern here had nothing to do with Katie Cassidy as an actress or Laurel as a character but more about how Arrow, in the past, has cheapened the significance of death, and I did not want them to do this with Laurel, especially given how much of Season 5’s first half focused on Oliver and the team preserving her legacy. I should have had more faith in the

TV Review: ‘Shots Fired’ on Fox

3 hours ago | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

A police officer stops a motorist, bullets fly — and almost everything that follows from that moment is contradictory, challenging and influenced by competing agendas.

That’s the premise of “Shots Fired,” a worthy and excellent new series that works as both a television drama and an interlocking array of engagements with some of the most thorny issues of our time. “Shots Fired” resists easy villains and simple answers, even as it knits its many pointed questions into an accessible narrative that is laudably brisk and generally efficient.

In many notable incidents of police brutality in recent years, there has been footage of the encounter between the cop and the civilian. But “Shots Fired” doesn’t depict that moment: As it follows several characters affected by and understandably agitated by the incident, we hear versions of what happened, but viewers don’t get to see it unfold.

What the audience does see hews to a number of cop-drama »
