Functional and Enjoyable to use
I do like the functionality of being able to watch some of my favorite shows, and the variety of shows available as well. At first I hated the viewing design of it- any time you accidentally tap the screen while it is playing a video, a toooon of information shows up around the corners of what you are watching. However, some of that info is very cool! It shows the actors' IMDB info, those who are currently in each scene, off to the left. Once, in an episode of doctor who, it showed trivia there. So that is actually fairly neat.
The only complaint I have, is that it isn't as seamless when it come to accessing the show you want to watch. That's not to say it isn't functional; it is. But it's not as convenient; you have to click the icon, and search trough even more info, to find the show you'd like. I think more than anything, what I'm missing is a "Recently Watched" or a "Continue Wathing" banner at the very top of the app, instead of the "Watch Next" section they have. And with that, I wish that you could just push play directly from the home screen. That's only complaint/suggestion I would really really like to see.
Not easy to use
So many things about this make actually using it difficult. First, I can't actually add something I want to buy from the app, but have to go to a computer and add it to my watch list, as opposed to just letting me watch it immediately. Second, trying to stream from a laptop to my tv pulls up some content protection warning sign saying I can't do that. Since I don't want to watch things on a laptop, or take time to even have to get it out to begin with, the switching back and forth between devices is just annoying. It would be much better if it was just on Apple TV, if the app would let me make in-app purchases, and if I could stream to my tv from any device I'm trying to use. Every single time I try to watch something there is a hold-up and it's complicated and multiple devices are needed.
Performs well eventually
I'm amending my review as, at first, when I would play a movie, it would be very grainy on the iPad. No HD ever. It was not my internet connection. However, now, this has vastly improved. The previews are still always grainy and the first few minutes of anything are also grainy. But after that, it snaps into HD mode. I don't know why it needs those few minutes, but it's definitely not my internet as everything else does HD streaming immediately. I can live with those first grainy minutes. If anyone is having this problem, just wait 5 minutes and it should go into HD. It's great to have access to all my Prime movies and shows on the iPad.
