Matt Reeves exits The Batman

2 hours ago | www.themoviebit.com | See recent TheMovieBit news »

Warner Bros and DC just can't seem to get a break, can they. You gotta wonder just what the hell is going on over there when it comes to their comic book movies. They've got the best characters and can't seem to get the wheels spinning at all! Ben Affleck, while still (begrudginly by all accounts) in the bat suit, left the directors chair behind and talks started a week ago with Matt Reeves to take the helm. Now, Reeves has exited the talks and we have no idea why. Is it the script? Remember Geoff Johns and Ben Affleck co-write the script. Was it really that bad, or did it get a tonne of studio notes that Affleck, and now Reeves would risk their reputation on? Either way, Batman is in a whole lot of trouble at this point! »

Will Mel Gibson Direct "The Batman" ?

3 hours ago | SneakPeek | See recent SneakPeek news »

Following actor Ben Affleck opting out as director of Warners "The Batman" and the studio concurrently in talks with Oscar winner Mel Gibson about directing "Suicide Squad 2", Matt Reeves has reportedly dropped out of directing the new stand-alone "Batman" feature, possibly paving the way for Gibson to take on the 'Caped Crusader':

"There are certain characters who hold a special place in the hearts of millions," said Affleck, still committed to producing and starring in "The Batman", after playing 'Bruce Wayne' in "Batman vs Superman: Dawn Of Justice" and the upcoming "Justice League".

"Performing this role demands focus, passion, and the very best performance I can give...Together with the studio, I have decided to find a partner in a director who will collaborate with me on this massive film.

"I am still in this, and we are making it, but we are currently looking for a director. I remain extremely committed to this project, »

Matt Reeves Won’t Be Directing ‘The Batman’

9 hours ago | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

Well, scratch one candidate off the list for “The Batman.”

As you know, Ben Affleck vacated the director’s chair on the brewing solo outing for his take on The Dark Knight, leaving open of the biggest job vacancies in Hollywood at the moment. Hope shone in the sky last week, when it was revealed that “Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes” director Matt Reeves was in talks for the project, but it seems the deal couldn’t be sealed.

Breaking: Batman Negotiations For Director Matt Reeves Have Reportedly Broken Down

10 hours ago | LRMonline.com | See recent LRM Online news »

Here we go again. Hope you have your neck braces on here.

The Batman is one project that hasn’t caught a break ever since it was announced last year. First Warner Bros were all coy about who they’d planned to have take the helm — even when we all knew it was Ben Affleck. Then at the tail end of last year, Affleck started to show signs of cold feet. Whenever asked about the project, he would either say something vague like “it’s coming,” or he would distance himself saying, “there’s no movie yet, it’s not a done deal,” even when it was kind of already announced as a done deal.

You all know what happened next. Affleck left the project as director (though he stayed on as Batman himself), and since then, we’ve been reporting on steady and promising talks between Warner Bros and »

Director Matt Reeves Says No to The Batman?

10 hours ago | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

For the second time in a week, Warner Bros. is reportedly looking for a new director to take the helm on The Batman. One week ago today, Matt Reeves entered negotiations to take over for Ben Affleck as director on this standalone DC adventure. But now it sounds like that won't happen either, as a new report reveals negotiations have broken down between the studio and the filmmaker. An unnamed studio source says that it's possible talks could resume "once heads cool," but for now, Warner Bros. will likely be searching for a new director.

The Hollywood Reporter broke this news, with their studio source confirming that talks have in fact broken down between Warner Bros. and Matt Reeves. It wasn't stated why talks broke down, or if there was a specific issue, or set of issues, that lead to Matt Reeves walking away. While we may never know what »

Matt Reeves exits talks to direct The Batman

10 hours ago | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Dear, or dear… Things really just don’t seem to be going right for Warner Bros. with The Batman at the moment.

After Ben Affleck decided to walk away from directing duties on the next Dark Knight solo movie, the studio moved quickly to secure a replacement, offering the gig to Cloverfield, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and War for the Planet of the Apes helmer Matt Reeves.

Well, after a week of talks, THR is reporting that talks have now broken down and Reeves has now exited negotiations, although they may resume “when heads cool”.

Apparently, Ridley Scott (Alien: Covenant) and Fede Alvarez (Don’t Breathe) were also under consideration prior to Reeves receiving an offer, so it’s possible the studio could turn its attention back to either of those.

Newswire: Another dastardly director slips through The Batman’s fingers

11 hours ago | avclub.com | See recent The AV Club news »

For a character with a reputation for collaring crooks, DC’s The Batman isn’t having much luck holding on to directors. Per The Hollywood Reporter, Dawn Of and War For The Planet Of The Apes director Matt Reeves—who was reportedly in pretty serious talks to helm the project after star Ben Affleck turned down the director’s chair himself—has now also walked away from the film. Negotiations between Reeves and Warner Bros. apparently broke down this week, although THR notes that it’s still possible they might resume.

Other potential candidates for the job have reportedly included Ridley Scott and Don’t Breathe’s Fede Alvarez. One thing is certain, though: One way or another, The Batman is going to happen, surging forward with the blind determination of a crusading Dark Knight. The character is too popular, and too lucrative, for DC and Warner to resist granting »

Matt Reeves Departs The Batman

11 hours ago | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

In a shocking turn of events, The Hollywood Reporter is telling us tonight that roughly a week after signing on to helm The Batman for Warner Bros., Matt Reeves has now departed the project. No reason was given for his exit, but the outlet notes that talks could potentially resume when “heads cool.” Despite that, this doesn’t sound very promising and it seems that the studio is, once again, left without a director.

Making this even more surprising is the fact that just this morning, we had heard that Reeves had potentially signed on for more than one DC Extended Universe film and was getting quite involved in things. What exactly’s going on behind the scenes is hard to say at the moment, but it all paints a pretty worrying picture for both The Batman and the studio’s cinematic universe as a whole. From what we’ve heard, »

A studio source indicates that negotiations have stopped, but adds that talks could resume down the road. WB is still intent on making the film, the source insisted, whatever means necessary.

The news comes after star Ben Affleck stepped down as director in order to focus on playing the Caped Crusader.

Yes, Damien Chazelle’s ‘La La Land’ Really Will Win Director and Picture Oscars — Here’s Why

12 hours ago | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

Late in the Oscar season, at the moment when voters actually fill in their ballots (the deadline is February 21 at 5 pm), it all comes down to what movies they have actually seen. What did they love the most, and is freshest in their minds? Which film aligns with the zeitgeist, delivering the message that 6,000 voters want to send?

The five directing nominations tend to line up with the strongest Best Picture contenders, although snubbed director nominee Ben Affleck did win Best Picture win for “Argo.” However, that underdog story became a narrative in itself that drove “Argo” to the win.

This year, the narratives include the aftermath of#OscarsSoWhite and the election of Donald J. Trump. Which will stick?

Here’s how the Best Director and Best Picture races are shaking out.
