Youngbok Ryu is a Ph.D. candidate at the Pardee RAND Graduate School and an assistant policy analyst at RAND. He has an M.S. in technology management from the Georgia Institute of Technology and an M.S. in science, technology, and environmental policy and mathematics from the University of Minnesota where he was an Ambassadorial Rotary Scholar. He completed undergraduate studies in civil and environmental engineering and economics at Korea University in Seoul, South Korea.
Ryu has worked with the National Academy of Engineering as a Christine Mirzayan Fellow where he contributed to “Making Value for America: Embracing the Future of Manufacturing, Technology, and Work.” Prior to coming to the United States, he was a researcher at national and regional think tanks in South Korea, focusing on technology forecasting, patent mapping, and small business consulting. He also served as a military officer in Korea's Engineering Corps. His interests include science and technology, energy and environment, and regional economic development.
