Anna Kendrick in Talks to Play Female Santa Claus for Disney Movie

Anna Kendrick is in negotiations to star in Disney's Nicole, a tale of a female Santa Claus.

Marc Lawrence is attached to direct, while Suzanne Todd, who worked with the studio on Alice in Wonderland, is producing.

Lawrence also wrote the script, whose details are being kept on ice. The twist, however, is that it is a holiday family adventure that centers on the coming of a female Santa.

Disney has done well in the past with tales of old St. Nick, having a hit franchise with the Tim Allen-starring Santa Clause trilogy, which launched in 1994.

Exciting, Extensive Synopsis Revealed For Nicolas Winding Refn’s ‘The Avenging Silence’

15 hours ago | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

Nicolas Winding Refn tends to play it close to the vest when it comes to his upcoming movies, but the details he’s dropped so far about “The Avenging Silence” have been tantalizing. Bond veterans Neal Purvis and Robert Wade (“Casino Royale,” “Quantum Of Solace,” “Skyfall,” “Spectre“) are writing the script for the film, with the director saying early last year that the project was borne out of his desire to make “a big extravagant action film.” Then over the summer, the filmmaker teased that the movie would be inspired by Ian Fleming‘s seminal Bond book “Dr.

Dax Shepard & Michael Pena Are On Patrol In First Trailer For ‘CHiPs’

50 minutes ago | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

While a movie based on the ’70s drama “CHiPs” seems silly, that’s everyone thought about “21 Jump Street” at first, until Phil Lord and Chris Miller showed that it’s possible to really shake the dust off an aging property. And yet, our reservations remain for “CHiPs” mostly because we’re not quite ready to put our faith in Dax Shepard as writer, director and star (but hey, we’d be more than happy to be proven wrong).

Adam Fields Sues, Says Ryan Kavanaugh Fraudently Lured Him to Relativity

2 hours ago | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Adam Fields claims that Ryan Kavanaugh fraudulently induced him to take a job as co-president of Relativity Media, in a lawsuit that charges the industry veteran was lied to, ostracized and even physically threatened during his short tenure at the crippled film company.

Fields’ suit against Kavanaugh charges that Relativity “operated closer to the cantina scene in Star Wars than a normal production company,” and that Kavanaugh “grossly exaggerated and misrepresented Relativity’s financial outlook and its ability to produce films.”

The company emerged from Chapter 11 bankruptcy last April, but has struggled to raise capital and to produce or release films. Mostly employees were furloughed over the holidays and not brought back after the New Year. Kavanaugh and Dana Brunetti, who he hired to oversee the film operation, have both reportedly stepped away from their executive positions at the Beverly Hills-based company.

Los Angeles City Attorney Mike Feuer has filed criminal charges against operators of an unlicensed talent agency for allegedly unlawfully charging the parent of an underage child for fees and photographs.

“The promise of Hollywood has lured thousands of people from around the globe to pursue careers in television and movies,” Feuer said. “Unfortunately, that promise also attracts unscrupulous individuals who would take advantage of those hopes and dreams. My office will hold accountable those who prey on aspiring performers to the full extent of the law.”

Patrick Arnold Simpson, 48, Paul Atteukenian, 51 and their business Network International Models & Talent were each charged with seven criminal counts including violating the Krekorian Act (advance fees for talent services); operating without a “Child Performer Service Permit”, falsely representing that the business was a licensed talent agency, petty theft, attempted grand theft and criminal conspiracy.

Simpson and Atteukenian could face up to four years in jail and $33,500 in fines. »
