Of all the haplessly unoriginal sequels, prequels, reboots, and remakes that have made our eyes and ears bleed out of sheer resentment, the world could have done us all a little favor and manifested the wildly overdue 23 Jump Street. However, Hollywood is not the first place where bureaucracy moseys itself over to stand in the way of creative vision.

Now, Jonah Hill has moved on from classic cult comedies to “serious” cinema, and Channing Tatum has resorted to turning himself a Hollywood oddball by appearing for 2-second cameos in major blockbuster films. Meanwhile, the long-awaited sequel to 22 Jump Street lingers in development hell.

While Kevin Hart’s action is taking Prime Video’s global top by storm, now dominating in it, the movie is in fact not as good as this hype implies. Die Hart 2: Die Harter is panned for being extremely generic and even a pale copy of all genre’s staples.
Thus, there is a need to satisfy people’s interest in good old action comedy flicks, with 5 of them being enlisted here. They are all must-watches for a good evening chill.
1. Tropic Thunder (2008)
This star-studded hilarious roller coaster of a movie seems to be the main inspiration for Die Hart, but it’s done much better. Ben Stiller’s brilliant film focuses on a group of actors during their attempt to make a Vietnam War film that turns into a failure.

Former Sony head turned producer Doug Belgrad is joining Netflix as vice president of film.
“We are thrilled to welcome Doug to our film team as Vice President of Film,” said Lin in a statement. “He brings a wealth of experience to the role from his many years as a respected studio executive, producer and co-financier. Climate change is getting worse day after day, and every uncomfortable conversation we’ve been putting off for decides is waiting for us just over the horizon. Caitlin Cronenberg’s debut feature Humane dives headfirst into that messy, chaotic crisis we’ve built for ourselves, in a chamber piece that has one affluent family forced to make the ultimate decision. It’s a classic thriller set-up with a premise ripped from the headlines of tomorrow’s newspaper, and a great cast of character actors ready to rip each other apart as soon as shit hits the fan.
The world of Humane is not unlike our own. With dwindling resources and increasingly inhabitable conditions, it’s like looking 5 minutes into the future. A future where fresh vegetable and meats are prohibited, and standing for any length of time in direct sunlight with no protection is practically a death sentence. But in...

There’s a nice trio of specialty films to highlight this weekend from Joanna Arnow, Uberto Pasolini and Caitlin Cronenberg’s feature directorial debut.
Joanna Arnow’s micro-budget comedy The Feeling That The Time For Doing Something Has Passed world premiered in Cannes’ Directors’ Fortnight. It follows a thirtysomething New York woman as time passes in her long-term casual Bdsm relationship, low-level corporate job, and quarrelsome Jewish family. Arnow writes, directs and stars. And that’s Bdsm, as in bondage and discipline, dominance and submission, sadism and masochism.
The helmer is thrilled to see her feature (after 2017’s i hate myself :), and a handful of well-received shorts) launch a theatrical run, with Magnolia distributing. “That’s how I dream of my movies being seen,” Arnow tells Deadline. “It’s also so important to see comedies (on the big screen) Shared laughter with strangers is quite beautiful and healing in a way.

A lot goes into a good performance – from research to blocking to facial expressions and beyond. But at its core, an acting performance comes down to reading lines of dialogue on a piece of paper. Many actors do their level best to read the lines as written. Some other actors, bless them, like to get a little more creative.
Television and film are filled with fascinating line readings from actors. Whether it’s an emphasis on an unusual syllable or just an outright scream, certain performers are able to make dialogue feel particularly vibrant. As pop culture travelers ourselves, we’ve come across many interesting line readings over the years. What follows are some of our favorites. Be sure to share yours in the comments as well!

Hollywood faces a significant imbalance when it comes to its stars. There are some actors like Adam Sandler who can’t separate the profession from real life and cast his friends and family as characters in movies. Then, there are others who vanish into a role for years, portraying their commitment to the art.
Actors like Dwayne Johnson and Adam Sandler often portray characters close to their real-life persona
While bringing their real-life persona into a character is not necessarily a bad thing, there are actors whom the audiences love for it and some whom they hate for the same. Here’s a look at actors who often portray characters close to their public image.

Ah, Y2K. The millennium bug that induced widespread fear over the possibility of a worldwide infrastructure crash once 2000 arrived becomes infectious fodder for a teen comedy infused with horror and nostalgia. Armed with a pitch-perfect, game-for-anything ensemble and great practical effects behind the carnage and calamity, A24’s latest offers up the most entertaining, funny-bone-tickling apocalyptic scenario since This Is the End.
Comedian and actor Kyle Mooney, who co-wrote the script with writer/producer Evan Winter, makes his directorial debut here. He kicks Y2K off with a potent dose of dial-up nostalgia as it sets the stage for one unpredictable 1999 New Year’s Eve party from hell. Shy teen Eli has an easier time connecting with his unrequited crush Laura (Rachel Zegler) over AOL, despite his extraverted best friend Danny’s constant nudging and encouragement to finally make a move. It’s a fairly big month on Prime Video in March, at least compared to the other streaming service offerings! There are are two major films arriving on Amazon’s streamer. The first is a remake of the Patrick Swayze action classic Road House. Stepping into the late Swayze’s shoes? A crazy-jacked Jake Gyllenhaal, who really seemed to want to go the extra mile for this project.
The other big film coming to Prime Video is Ricky Stanicky, and the plot sounds really fun! It follows three friends who have always blamed their mistakes on an imaginary guy called Ricky Stanicky. When they have to finally introduce people to Stanicky, they decide to hire a washed-up actor (John Cena) to impersonate him. Hilarity ensues, maybe? But if neither of those make your watchlist, there’s also the return of the animated hit series Invincible.

A New Year means lots of removals from Netflix and January 1st is looking busy, with over 100 movies set to leave the service already. Below, we’ll be keeping track of all the Netflix departures for the first month of 2024.
First, a few housekeeping notes as to how Netflix removals work before we dive in. Due to licensing agreements, shows and movies added to Netflix aren’t added forever. Instead, they’re essentially rented for a fixed period. All the shows below have their current window on Netflix ending and will likely be bound for a rival streaming service.
We list titles slightly differently from other outlets, with our listings being the actual day of removal. If you want to watch any titles scheduled to expire on January 1st, for example, you’ll need to watch by the end of December 31st.

One of the most acclaimed movies of the year is being turned into a miniseries by AMC. For better or worse, "BlackBerry," which was released in theaters back in May, is going to be repurposed as a three-episode TV show that will air on the cable network next month across three nights. It will also be streaming on AMC+. While this opens the movie up to a larger audience, it's going to be presented in a way that was not originally intended, making this something of a bittersweet situation. More on that in a second. For now, let's get into the specifics.
Billed as a "special television event," the miniseries version of director Matt Johnson's "BlackBerry" includes 16 minutes of new footage. It will air in three parts on November 13, 14, and 15 on AMC, with all three episodes available on AMC+ on November 13. Dan McDermott, president of entertainment and AMC Studios for AMC Networks,...

It was a Step Brothers reunion over the weekend, as Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly joined Snoop Dogg on stage to sing the bonafide classic “Boats ‘n Hoes”, which was robbed of an Oscar nomination we tell ya!
To celebrate Snoop Dogg’s 52nd birthday at the Best Night of Your Life 2 benefit show, Ferrell and Reilly got on stage at Los Angeles’ Greek Theater in outfits similar to those they wore in the “Boats ‘n Hoes” video, prompting a major audience reaction, as can be seen in a video posted on TMZ. 52 isn’t normally a big-bash sort of birthday, but it’s Snoop Dogg, so every day is an occasion to party. And if you can bring back the team of Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly – who haven’t appeared in a movie together since 2018’s Holmes & Watson – all the better. Snoop Dogg even showed off his cake,...

Exclusive: Amidst one of the most creatively fertile periods in his career to date, actor Michael Cera has taken on new agents at CAA.
The in-demand Canadian actor is coming off of a standout role in Barbie, Greta Gerwig’s triumphant live-action take on the Mattel doll for Warner Bros, which has thus far grossed over $1.4B worldwide and seems likely to figure heavily in the awards race to come.
In addition to the highest-grossing film of the year, the fantasy comedy penned by Gerwig and Noah Baumbach has set records as the top-grossing title ever released by Warner Bros, and the highest-grossing film from a solo female director. Starring alongside Margot Robbie as Barbie and Ryan Gosling as Ken, Cera portrayed Allan, the lovably awkward best friend of Ken who, unlike the central characters, has no counterpart in his universe.

Hello Dankness Review: A Tiresome Feature-Length Shitpost Remixing American Pop Culture and Politics
If the joy of art is that it can be interpreted in infinite ways over time, then is a project which “remixes” classic movie scenes by forcing them into the current political climate redundant in concept? Take Joe Dante’s The Burbs, one of the key films featured in art collective Soda Jerk’s recycled musical Hello Dankness, and which remains relevant because its combination of suburban malaise and paranoia continues to echo into our sharply divided political climate. Does lazily editing yard signs for Bernie Sanders and Donald Trump into characters’ front gardens really feel like a bold new addition to such an older work? Or does it just state the obvious as to how a modern audience might interpret the character archetypes it presented us with in the first place?
Hello Dankness is a tiresome exercise due to how it states every clear, played-out satirical point of the...

Most of us would feel lucky just seeing Rihanna from a mile away, but Michael Cera had a once-in-a-lifetime experience when the singer slapped him across the face hard. But there was no actual beef in this squabble: It was all part of a very memorable scene in This Is the End, Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg’s 2013 disaster comedy flick.
Cera reminisced on the making of This Is the End in a recent video interview breaking down his most iconic roles for GQ. The film — which also stars Rogen along with James Franco, Jonah Hill, Jay Baruchel, Danny McBride, Craig Robinson, Emma Watson, and many more familiar faces — sees Cera portray an incredibly fictionalized version of himself, who spends a star-studded housewarming party inhaling cocaine and schmoozing women. When he finds himself arm’s length from Rihanna, he takes the ill-advised opportunity to slap her ass, and immediately faces...

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have been an unusual mainstay in popular culture for decades, so they might be seen as occupying an unusual subgenre unto themselves. Originally created in 1984, the Turtles were intended as a satire of the ultra-gritty superhero comics of the time, Frank Miller's "Daredevil" comics in particular. The absurd title and weird premise, however, caught on, and by 1990, the Turtles were starring in TV shows, video games, and a live-action feature film. In 2023, the Turtles are entering what might be their 20th unique continuity with the release of Jeff Rowe's "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem." They have come a long way since their superhero-inflected origins.
"Mutant Mayhem" was co-written and co-produced by Seth Rogen, who also plays the voice of Bebop, a mutant warthog. As a producer, Rogen has had a long, prolific, and quite interesting career. His movies tend to be lightweight...

Like any kid growing up in the 1980s, Seth Rogen wanted to be a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle. “I grew up with them. And I grew up loving them,” Rogen tells Den of Geek. “I could not have absorbed it more thoroughly.”
Decades after yelling “Cowabunga!” in his family’s living room, Rogen is now a Hollywood mainstay involved in cult classics and mega-hits alike. You may know him best from R-rated comedies like Superbad, Pineapple Express, and This Is the End. But Rogen can be seen – and heard – in family movies too, like Kung Fu Panda and Disney’s The Lion King, and adult dramas like Steven Spielberg’s The Fabelmans.
On the big screen Rogen has done it all, from fighting crime as the Green Hornet to blowing up dictators. But now he’s living his childhood dream of hanging with...

It seemed like the end of the road for the “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.”
The popular kids franchise had inspired a half-dozen movies of declining quality, with the live-action 2016 adventure “Out of the Shadows” suffering from the kind of withering reviews and bad box office returns that derail a film series.
But Paramount and Nickelodeon CEO Brian Robbins and Nickelodeon Animation and Paramount Animation president Ramsey Naito had an offbeat idea for how they could make the Turtles cool again.
That involved tapping Seth Rogen and his producing partner Evan Goldberg, the duo behind “Superbad” and “This is the End,” to give the characters an adolescent flair. It didn’t matter that the pair’s main experience with animation, the very R-rated “Sausage Party,” was made for moviegoers of voting age and not for the pre-teens who are the biggest fans of Donatello, Michelangelo, Leonardo and Raphael.

Michael Cera is looking back at the shock of his nearly overnight fame thanks to “Superbad”.
While the star had been acting in roles prior to the 2007 comedy, with “Arrested Development” and “Juno” under his belt, it was “Superbad” that put him on the public’s radar.
“That was sort of overwhelming,” Cera told The Guardian of being shoved into the spotlight at 19. “I didn’t know how to handle walking down the street. Fame makes you very uncomfortable in your own skin, and makes you paranoid and weird. There were lots of great things about it, and I met a lot of amazing people, but there’s a lot of bad energies, too, ones that I was not equipped to handle.”

Michael Cera is looking back on the “funnier” revision that was made to the script of 2013’s “This Is The End”.
In a new interview with Rolling Stone, the actor explains how “no pain, no gain” applied to the scene where he got slapped by Rihanna at James Franco’s house party.
Cera, 35, noted that, after multiple takes, the two — who play exaggerated versions of themselves, along with the rest of the cast — agreed to ditch the fake slaps and actually slap one another, leading to a “slightly revised” script.

Michael Cera is recalling his time with Rihanna on the set of This Is the End and remembering the slap the singer gave him in the film which turned out to be real.
“I thought it would look a lot better if she hit me. I don’t think it took much convincing to get her to do it,” Cera told Rolling Stone in a recent interview. “I just thought it would look a lot better than a fake slap would because you can really feel it. It just looks a lot funnier!”
The Arrested Development alum said that the slap ended up being the cut they used for the actual film.
“I definitely did not regret it! I was into it,” he added. “The take that is in the movie, she really did hit my ear, which was disorienting. But I have no regrets. I didn’t lose any hearing over it,...

Part apocalypse movie, part comedy, and part inside joke, This is the End was one of the strangest and funniest movies released in 2013. A lot of the film’s charm and appeal came from its star-studded cast, all playing exaggerated versions of themselves. Jonah Hill, Emma Watson, Jay Baruchel, Rihanna, Paul Rudd, Channing Tatum, Michael Cera, Mindy Kaling, and the Backstreet Boys all skewered themselves in the offbeat movie, which was co-written and co-directed by another one of its stars, Seth Rogen. At the time of the film’s release, 10 years ago , Rogen told us why he and co-writer Evan Goldberg wanted to make a movie in which the stars played themselves. Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne are a different kind of duo in their Apple TV+ series Platonic, which sees the Neighbors stars go from on-screen married couple to a pair of friends reconnecting after a fall out, who couldn’t possibly have less of a romantic spark.
In the half-hour comedy from Neighbors director Nick Stoller and Francesca Delbanco, Sylvia (Byrne) sees an Instagram post that her former best friend Will (Rogen) is divorcing his wife — whom she hated and her honesty about that years ago tanked their friendship — and decides to reach out in an effort to reconnect. The attorney-turned-stay-at-home mom, whose youngest child is now in school full time, and the newly single brew master are each at a crossroads and quickly fall into old habits as they turn to each other for support.
