ABC Chief Channing Dungey Talks ‘Scandal’ End Plan, TGIT’s Future

10 hours ago | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Through five seasons, “Scandal” has consistently been among broadcast’s highest rated dramas. With the sixth season of the Shonda Rhimes-produced series set to debut Jan. 26, ABC entertainment president Channing Dungey discussed with Variety whether a plan for when and how to end the show is yet in place.

“I would say yes, in Shonda’s head,” Dungey said in an interview Tuesday at the Television Critics Association winter press tour in Pasadena, Calif. “I know already that she has some great ideas for next season, which will be season seven. We have not really talked about what happens after that. But I love the show and I would happily keep the show on as long as she feels that she has creative runway to write the show.”

Dungey was promoted to programming head of ABC last year after six years of leading drama development for the network. In that role and in her new position »

Ratings: Arnold’s ‘Celebrity Apprentice’ Loses 1 Million Viewers From Disappointing Premiere

17 hours ago | The Wrap | See recent The Wrap news »

Things aren’t getting any better for Arnold Schwarzenegger’s “Celebrity Apprentice.” The new-look NBC reality competition shed a million viewers last night from its already soft start a week ago. The post-Trump era slipped 15 percent week over week in the advertiser-sought 18-49 demographic. To be fair, Monday saw some particularly tough competition from Espn’s College Football Championship, which surely drew a number of males away from the broadcast. ABC’s “The Bachelor” — which skews more female — did better, and the Disney-owned broadcaster won Monday in the main demo. CBS took prime time in total viewers. Joel and Ethan Coen Tackle TV with Western Anthology ‘The Ballad of Buster Scruggs’

8 hours ago | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

The Coen brothers are taking another stab at the TV biz.

Joel and Ethan Coen are developing the limited series “The Ballad of Buster Scruggs” through Annapurna’s new TV division. The Coens wrote the script and will direct the project, which Annapurna describes as a “Western anthology.”

The Coens were given executive producer credit on FX’s “Fargo,” but were not actually involved in the development or production of that series (which was loosely inspired by their iconic film).

“Buster Scruggs” reps the latest attempt by the Coen brothers to move into TV, a trend that has increased in recent years among auteur filmmakers. In 2011, the Coens developed the hour-long single-camera comedy “HarveKarbo” for Fox. The project, which they co-created with Phil Johnston, was developed through Imagine TV but ultimately didn’t move forward.

Taboo Series Premiere: Shovels and Keys

If anything will draw people to Taboo it’s Tom Hardy, known for his portrayal of Bane, Mad Max, and John Fitzgerald in The Revenant. Taboo is different from those previous roles, but has a similar theme as several other shows on television now. Hardy is a big name to attach to a series, but I wonder if the plot of Taboo can meet him. Taboo only has eight episodes in this first season, and I’ll admit, the series premiere left me wanting. I wonder how much they spent to make just one episode. It looks and feels like a movie. Hardy’s

Over the course of his eight-year term, discussion surrounding President Barack Obama’s speech-making skills has always touched on one recurrent point: The man knows how to inspire. So heading into the president’s farewell address Tuesday evening, a disheartened nation looked once more for that motivation, that inspiration, that secret power only the best speeches contain — the ones usually given by fictional TV presidents, and rarely matched by their real-life counterparts.
