Ranking the Marvel Cinematic Universe (2016 Edition)

3 hours ago | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Flickering Myth ranks the Marvel Cinematic Universe…

Kicking off back in 2008, the Marvel Cinematic Universe now contains a whopping fourteen movies, two TV shows and three Netflix series with more coming our way next year. We’ve seen the formation of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, the fall of S.H.I.E.L.D., the rise of Ultron and the introduction of everyone’s favourite wall-crawler.

With the release of Doctor Strange, the Marvel Cinematic Universe now stands at nineteen entries so we decided to rank each and every one of them. The last time we did this, Guardians of the Galaxy took the top spot facing stiff competition from The Avengers and Captain America: The Winter Solider – can it retain the number one position?

A few rules: TV series count as one entry. So both seasons of Daredevil count as one, as do all three seasons of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Movies, »

Broadchurch Season 3 Teaser Trailer Promises A 2017 Return

27 December 2016 11:59 AM, PST | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

It was nearly two years ago when the last episode of BBC America’s Broadchurch aired in February 2015. While we don’t know exactly when the acclaimed series will return, we do know that it’s coming next year. That’s because the British crime drama has released a slight 10-second teaser today promising its 2017 season 3 debut.

Starring former Doctor Who David Tennant and Olivia Colman (Peep Show) as Detectives Alec Hardy and Ellie Miller, respectively, the teaser doesn’t reveal much in terms of what fans should expect from this new season. For those who’ve waited 22 months to hear any news whatsoever, though, it is welcomed. Among the most intriguing things found in this teaser is a hot second reveal of Reverend Paul Coates, played by Arthur Darvill (Legends of Tomorrow).

Written and created by Chris Chibnall, Broadchurch began as an investigation of an 11-year-old’s corpse found »

Doctor Who Meets A Superhero At X-Mas

26 December 2016 6:41 PM, PST | Cinelinx | See recent Cinelinx news »

After a year-long absence, the Doctor returned to TV in the 2016 Doctor Who Christmas Special, “The Return of Doctor Mysterio”. The sci-fi series climbed aboard the superhero bandwagon to show what would happen if the time travelling hero from Gallifrey met a Superman-like caped hero. Did the comic book homage work or was it a super stinker?

As we move into 2017, comic book inspired movies and TV shows are the most popular and lucrative genre going. Just this year, we’ve had six super hero films (Deadpool, Batman v Superman, Captain America: Civil War, Suicide Squad, X-Men: Apocalypse and Doctor Strange) as well as 6 television shows (Arrow, the Flash, Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow, Gotham and Agents of Shield), not to mention the Marvel Netflix shows.  Therefore, it’s not too surprising to see other shows acknowledge the massive popularity of super heroes with a yuletide homage. That’s what Doctor Who did last night. »

Mindy Newell: Doctor… Who?

26 December 2016 10:00 AM, PST | Comicmix.com | See recent Comicmix news »

It’s Sunday night, 7:19 P.M. on my clock, which makes the premiere of the 2016 Doctor Who Christmas Special just an hour and 41 minutes away. The long drought is almost over.

I’ve been getting my Whovian fix this week by watching as much as I can of BBCAmerica’s marathon of episodes, which has been running since last Tuesday. It was interesting to watch the progression of Doctors, as it gave me a chance to really compare Eccleston, Tennant, Smith, and Capaldi’s characterizations of the Time Lord.

To be honest, I can’t really say all that much about Christopher Eccleston’s turn – it always seemed a little flat to me, as though the actor rather quickly regretted signing on to the role, and so was doing that – merely playing a role until the contract ran out. (I remind everyone that this is all imho, not, for a change, »

Doctor Who: The Return of Doctor Mysterio Review

26 December 2016 7:04 AM, PST | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

It’s Christmas Day evening in the United Kingdom. Questionably cooked roast turkey and boiled vegetables gently ferment in guts, racist relatives have soused themselves into bitter oblivion and, on TV, the Doctor is back in Doctor Who: The Return of Doctor Mysterio. The instinctive reaction is “where the hell have you been?!”

It’s been a full (and eventful) year since The Husbands of River Song and boy could we have used the Doctor. Forget Daleks, Cybermen and the ever-present Silurian menace, we’ve got a lunatic moving into the White House, fascists ascendant in Europe and a planet staring down the barrel of potentially apocalyptic climate change.

Faced with all this, it’s unsurprising that Stephen Moffat has turned his pen to superheroes. Who better to fix all things than a gosh-darnit goodhearted kid with a floppy fringe, squarish jaw, flappy cape and bulletproof skin? An immortal »

‘Doctor Who: The Return of Doctor Mysterio’ Review

26 December 2016 7:01 AM, PST | Blogomatic3000 | See recent Blogomatic3000 news »

Doctor Who is going through a change, with a new companion and of course the end of the Moffat era. Right now though this is Christmas day, and we have Doctor Who: The Return of Doctor Mysterio. Can Doctor Who do a super hero story that isn’t drowned in pure cheese?

Doctor Who (Peter Capaldi) has to save New York, this time with the aid of The Ghost (Justin Chatwin). With the return of Nardole (Matt Lucas) to aid in the task, can The Doctor save the city? and will the investigative journalist Lucy Fletcher (Charity Wakefield) work out the identity of The Ghost? Will that even matter?

The thing about The Return of Doctor Mysterio is that it taps into the heart of what comic book fans love. For all those people who know Lois Lane will find out the identity of Superman, and Spider-Man will find his true love, »

Doctor Who Season 10 Trailer: Welcome, Bill!

26 December 2016 4:36 AM, PST | TVfanatic | See recent TVfanatic news »

The Doctor will return in a more permanent basis pretty soon.

Yes, after going without a full season in 2016, the BBC America hit will finally return in April, but what's on tap for us fans who have waited so long?

A new companion, of course!

That new companion will be played by Pearl Mackie and will be called Bill.

If the first trailer for Doctor Who Season 10 is anything to go by, she looks like a lot of fun.

We get to see her traveling through several different periods in time and she's really enjoying it.

I mean, it's not like anyone would hate helping the doctor.

Pretty much anyone would do anything to have the pleasure of being his companion.

Also teased in the trailer was the return of Matt Lucas as Nardole.

It's odd seeing the actor in such a serious role when you think of the characters he's played in the past. »

Doctor Who Christmas special review: it’s super, man

25 December 2016 11:00 PM, PST | The Guardian - TV News | See recent The Guardian - TV News news »

Dickens meets DC Comics as The Return of Doctor Mysterio confirms show is now firmly part of midwinter tradition

Such a big deal has Doctor Who (BBC1) become that its Christmas special got a gala launch at the National Film Theatre: Santa-shaped bouncers at the doors, micro fig puddings on spangly platters, fake snow dropping on to celebrity heads.

And on an Nft widescreen more familiar with showing remastered prints of Orson Welles classics is The Return of Doctor Mysterio, the seventh 25 December episode written by Steven Moffat, the series showrunner who, in the Gallifrey way, will be regenerated as Chris Chibnall (creator of Broadchurch) next year.
