Storyline

This sitcom is about the fairly ordinary daily lives of a young couple of New Yorkers, too-nice-for-his-own-good filmmaker Paul Buchman and his assertive partner Jamie Stemple Buchman, who are almost constantly (working up to) bickering and making up with each-other and just about anybody else, notably his parents and siblings, her sister, their colleagues, friends, superintendent and neighbors, psycho-therapist, all kinds of staff, customers, officials, bystanders etc., even their dog Murray and his dog-walker. Goofs

As with any long-running show there are many inconsistencies between series. Characters' life histories, their birthdays and ages are reported differently from time to time as the writers invent new stuff for them that wasn't thought of when the series began. See more »

Quotes

Ira: [sniffing] Did you have a steak?
Paul: What are you, part wolf? As a matter of fact I did, this morning.
Ira: For breakfast? Paulie, I'm impressed.
Paul: I'm working my way backwards through the day: for dinner, I'm having cornflakes.

Makes me want to run out and get married.
9 June 2003 | by (NYC) – See all my reviews

This show is a classic. The seven season story of two neurotic New Yorkers, Paul and Jamie, as they fumble their way through love and marriage. In-laws, illegal cable, English neighbors, brushing their teeth, buying a parking space, remembering their first meeting and their VERY first meeting; this couple is adorable, touching and utterly hilarious in everything they do.

In the leads Paul Reiser and Helen Hunt have the best chemistry since Ricky and Lucy. Truth be told, you either fall in love with Paul and Jamie right away or not at all. But once you do fall for them, you will wish their marriage, was your marriage. Now available on DVD, check it out.
