Cheryl Hines feels “liberated” by her return to Curb Your Enthusiasm

12 hours ago | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Curb Your Enthusiasm is back and actress Cheryl Hines feels “liberated” to have returned to the show.

Hines, who plays Larry David’s now ex-wife on the show, has built up a fair bit of history with the fictional Larry over the years, and the show’s return this week showed the two of them still floating in the same circles, despite Cheryl’s continued frustrations with her ex.

She isn’t alone in her anguish of course and the actress revealed that part of her wishes the two could still be together.

“I miss being married to Larry,” Hines revealed to The Hollywood Reporter, “There is a world in which I think we belong together.”

Hines also talked about what it was like returning to Curb – a show where the dialogue is largely improvised – and that the only thing that’s really changed is her.

Turns out there’s a very good reason why Larry David’s SNL impression of Bernie Sanders is so spot-on.

Both the Curb Your Enthusiasm star and the U.S. Senator appeared on Tuesday’s season premiere of the PBS reality show Finding Your Roots, which traces celebrities’ family trees. And host Henry Louis Gates had a surprise for both of them: David and Sanders are actually distant cousins. (Well, maybe that’s not such a surprise.)

Curb Your Enthusiasm review – if it ain't woke, don't fix it

3 October 2017 2:00 AM, PDT | The Guardian - TV News | See recent The Guardian - TV News news »

Larry David is as insensitive as ever in the show’s ninth season, and his approach to life makes him the perfect character to navigate questions of identity in 2017

Any notion that Larry David’s thinly veiled self-portrait might be toned down or adjusted for the “age of wokeness” vanished within the first minutes of Curb Your Enthusiasm’s season premiere. The opening moments of the show’s ninth series saw him make assumptions about someone’s sexuality, joke about the American military, and laugh long and hard about Ptsd.

'Curb Your Enthusiasm' Cast on How the Premiere Kicker Impacts the Season

Curb Your Enthusiasm has returned after six years and, as promised ahead of the HBO comedy's highly anticipated Oct. 1 launch, not much has changed.

Larry David's TV alter ego was still thrusting himself into uncomfortable situations — this time, crossing international borders when a fatwa is issued against him — and catching up with the people in his life, including manager Jeff Greene (Jeff Garlin) and his foulmouthed better half Susie (Susie Essman), favorite freeloader Leon Black (J.B. Smoove) and ex-wife Cheryl David (Cheryl Hines).

But is one of those relationships ready for a change?

Bryan Cranston Calls Doing Improv with Larry David for Curb Your Enthusiasm 'a Joy'

Bryan Cranston had a lot of fun working with Larry David on the new season of Curb Your Enthusiasm, even though there wasn’t much of a script to work with.

“It’s all improv,” the Breaking Bad actor, 61, told People Now. “Larry writes out a little outline saying, ‘Okay, in this scene these three or four things need to come up — these pieces of information at some point need to come out. Go!’ And you just improv the entire thing.”

“It was a joy,” Cranston continued. “We laughed and laughed and laughed.”

Larry David, Accidental Hero: How ‘Curb’ Got An Innocent Man Acquitted from a Murder Charge

2 October 2017 1:14 PM, PDT | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

Nyu film grad Jacob Lamendola visited the “Curb Your Enthusiasm” trivia page on IMDb on a lazy day in 2012, expecting to find frivolities like how many f-bombs Susie Essman dropped in her angriest episode. Instead, the top entry explained that outtakes from “The Carpool Lane” — the season-four installment in which creator and star Larry David evaded traffic by inviting a prostitute to a Dodger game — exonerated a murder suspect.

Telling that story became “Long Shot,” which is now streaming on Netflix. It took Lamendola five years to make the 40-minute documentary: “I knew that it was worth taking the time to tell it correctly,” he said.

This was the backstory: The victim, 16-year-old Martha Puebla, was shot and killed on her Los Angeles doorstep in May 2003. Three months later, police arrested Juan Catalan, a machinist who resembed a sketch artist’s composite. They believed he had a motive: Days before her death, »
