Moana Waialiki is a sea voyaging enthusiast and the only daughter of a chief in a long line of navigators. When her island's fisherman can't catch any fish and the crops fail, she learns that the demigod Maui caused the blight by stealing the heart of the goddess Te Fiti. The only way to heal the island is to persuade Maui to return Te Fiti's heart, so Moana sets off on an epic journey across the Pacific. The film is based on stories from Polynesian mythology. I usually cringe though animated movies with theatrical style singing pieces. On top of having superb animation, voice acting, story and theme, even the singing worked.
This movie worked on so many levels. Everything just came together and fit perfectly. The story was deeper than it seems and is very human.
The writing and voice acting as well as the personality and style of all the characters was incredible. It probably would have been better if they didn't have English accents but this is Disney.
It was a lovely idealized rendition of a far better world than ours.
The computer modelling in Moana has a lovely style and incredible detail. There is craftsmanship and details even in items like Moana's headdress.
