Ratings: Undercover Boss Returns Down, But Tops Quiet Wednesday

CBS’ Undercover Boss opened Season 8 on Wednesday with 5.9 million total viewers and a 1.1 demo rating, down from both its year-ago opener (7.5 mil/1.6, on a Sunday) and its Season 7 average (6.4 mil/1.2), but leading the quiet pre-holiday night in the demo and veritably tying Code Black for the largest audience.

A second Undercover Boss drew 5.3 mil and a 1.0 leading into Code Black (5.94 mil/0.9), which slipped 13 and 18 percent.

Good Wife Spinoff EPs Tease Filthy Fight: 'Diane Is Going to Swear'

This is going to be %&@#ing awesome.

Good Wife creators Robert and Michelle King will be taking full advantage of CBS All Access’ decidedly looser restrictions when spinoff series The Good Fight premieres in February. For starters, Christine Baranski‘s delightfully no-nonsense Diane will at long last be able to channel her inner George Carlin.

“Oh yeah, Diane is going to swear,” Robert King tells TVLine, exclusively. “There is nothing quite like hearing Christine Baranski swear.”

Can Lethal Weapon's Grieving Riggs Move On? Ep Matt Miller Weighs In

If Lethal Weapon‘s Christmas episode made it seem like Riggs had come to some sort of peace about his wife’s death, chalk that up to wishful holiday thinking, executive producer Matt Miller says.

Because when the Fox drama returns on Jan. 4 (8/7c), the grieving detective won’t have moved far past where we last saw him: obsessing about a punk criminal’s taunting insinuation that the car crash that killed Miranda Riggs (and the couple’s unborn child) was no accident. (As we now know, the drug dealer was lying.)

The Good Place Ep Explains Why We Only Get 4 More Episodes This Season

Good news: The Good Place returns from a two-month hiatus in a couple weeks. Now, the bad news: That return won’t last very long.

NBC’s freshman comedy, starring Kristen Bell as a woman mistakenly placed in a heaven-like afterlife, returns Thursday, Jan. 5 at 8:30/7:30c — but it’ll only air four more episodes this season, for a total of 13. Did NBC quietly decide to send Eleanor and company to the Bad Place (i.e., cancellation) early?

Not at all, creator/Ep Michael Schur (Parks and Recreation, Brooklyn Nine-Nine) assures us. In fact, the abbreviated 13-episode season was his plan from the start. »

Cancelled or Not? Girl Meets World, Sytycd, Hit the Floor, Notorious and 9 More Series on the Bubble

21 December 2016 9:27 AM, PST

The major networks continue to have trouble uttering the C-word.

The broadcast and cable nets are once again going out of their way to avoid slapping even the most struggling series with a cancellation label. As a result, viewers are, in some instances, given false hope that a show that’s essentially Doa has a shot at being renewed. Conversely, shows that are genuinely on the bubble are, in some cases, presumed dead.
