‘The Youngest Elected Official in New York City’: New Short Explores How Young Politician Uses Optimism to Succeed — Watch

Meet Ritchie Torres. He's not like other politicians you know.

“The Youngest Elected Official in New York City”

The New Yorker

Meet Ritchie Torres. At twenty-eight years old, the New York City Council member is the youngest elected official in New York City. Torres, a long-time resident of the Central Bronx, uses his own experiences and genuine, hard-won optimism to represent his constituents in a city that can be difficult to navigate. And Torres, for one, understands that truth on a deep and personal level.

The New Yorker has turned their spotlight on Torres in their latest original short film, the very appropriately named “The Youngest Elected Official in New York City,” which introduces its audience to Torres, his works and his attitude in snappy and charming fashion.

Torres’ brand of hope and change might not sound like normal politician-speak, but Torres is the kind of representative who consistently uses his own experiences — including being consistently told that he can’t do anything — to actually get things done. It’s pretty much the perfect way to kick off a Monday morning in a world where political movements aren’t always so damn inspiring.
