Turns out we may get to find out how I met your father after all!  Nearly three years after the end of How I Met Your Mother, there's a spinoff in the works, but it's not the spinoff you may think you already heard about. Just after the end of the series, there was a pilot called How I Met Your Dad, starring Greta Gerwig (who talks about the show in the video above) and written by Himym executive producers Carter Bays and Craig Thomas, along with Emily Spivey.  CBS shockingly decided not to pick that pilot up, and now the whole concept is getting a rewrite from This Is Us co-executive producers Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger, E! ‘The Birds,’ ‘The Lion King,’ ‘Thelma & Louise’ Join National Film Registry

14 December 2016 12:01 AM, PST | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

With the addition of 25 new films — including “The Birds,” “The Lion King,” “The Breakfast Club” and “Thelma & Louise” — the National Film Registry of the Library of Congress now includes 700 films that span more than a century.

The 2016 inductees into the registry include movies long considered classics, obscure documentaries and films once too racy or avant-garde to be accepted by the mainstream. Librarian of Congress Carla Hayden made the selections after consulting with a panel of experts who make up the National Film Preservation Board.

Congress established the registry in 1988 with the National Film Preservation Act of 1988 — requiring the Library of Congress to designate and preserve films that are “culturally, historically or aesthetically” significant. Films must be at least 10 years old to be chosen.

Director Ridley Scott said he was “honored and proud” to have the 1991 feminist empowerment ode, “Thelma & Louise,” selected, noting it joined another of his films on the list. »

Ben Affleck Says ‘The Batman’ On Track to Shoot in Spring: ‘Everything Is Coming Together’

22 hours ago | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Ben Affleck‘s “Live by Night” is an unapologetic throwback to the era of Cagney and Bogart. It was a time when the big screen was full of fedora wearing criminals, who lived the high life before their cinematic crime sprees ended in a hail of Tommy Gun fire.

“This is a love letter to the great Warner’s gangster films of the ’30’s or ’40’s,” Affleck told Variety at a tastemakers screening at New York’s Metrograph Theater on Tuesday night. “Whether it’s ‘White Heat’ or ‘Angels With Dirty Faces’ or ‘Public Enemy.’ Even going to the great gangster films of the ’60’s or ’70’s — ‘Godfather’ and ‘Chinatown.’ There’s this tradition of gangster genre movies that’s really rich and fun to mine. This is a homage to those films.”

GoDaddy Will Return to Super Bowl Advertising

3 hours ago | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

A slew of regular Super Bowl advertisers has opted to leave the event in recent years. Gone for now (and, perhaps, for later) are former Big Game stalwarts like FedEx and General Motors. In 2017, Toyota and Doritos will not step on the playing field.

One of the departed, however, is ready to make a comeback.

GoDaddy, the web-services provider with the upstart attitude, is making a return to Super Bowl advertising after sitting out Super Bowl 50 this year. The company plans to run a single 30-second commercial in the first half of the game, said Barb Rechterman, GoDaddy’s chief marketing officer, in an interview. “We finalized the deal within the last month or so,” she said. “We are fast and furious on the creative side.”

The Scottsdale, Arizona, company took to the Super Bowl sidelines as it used 2016 to develop a bigger name for itself overseas, Rechterman explained. In 2017, however, it »
