‘Atlanta’ Star Lakeith Stanfield Pulls a Kanye West at Critics’ Choice Awards

19 hours ago | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

When executive producer Tom Lassally took the stage to accept the best comedy series award for “Silicon Valley” at the 22nd annual Critics’ Choice Awards Sunday night, “Atlanta” star Lakeith Stanfield had other plans.

Stanfield could be seen approaching the stage from the opposite side of the room as Lassally climbed the steps, eventually swooping in to, one assumes, register a note of protest for “Atlanta” losing the prize.

“I want to thank everybody for honoring us in this way,” Stanfield said, as Lassally looked on from behind presenters Christian Slater and Leslie Mann. “We worked very hard on ‘Silicon Valley’ and here we are. Thank you.”

When Stanfield vacated the mic, Lassally finally got to his own speech. “I have no idea who that was,” he said, before accepting the prize.

Atlanta” didn’t go home empty-handed, though. Star Donald Glover won the award for best actor in a comedy series.
