Exclusive: Screenwriter Taylor Sheridan on Soldado, the Sequel to Sicario

25 November 2016 8:43 AM, PST

Last year, one of the biggest surprise sleeper hits was Denis Villeneuve’s crime-thriller Sicario, starring Emily Blunt as an FBI agent who teams with Josh Brolin and Benicio del Toro to fight the Mexican drug cartels, before learning her teammates may be almost as corrupt as those they’re chasing.

The movie ended up grossing $47 million domestically and $37 million overseas, and it received 3 Oscar nominations including one for Johann Johannsson (who we just happen to have an interview with next week). It proved successful enough that the producers decided to pursue a sequel featuring Brolin and Del Toro’s characters. The film, titled Soldado (or “Soldier”), is currently filming for a release sometime in 2017.

While talking with the film’s screenwriter Taylor Sheridan about Hell or High Water, the modern day Western starring Chris Hemsworth, Jeff Bridges and Ben Foster, which hit DVD and BluRay last week, Lrm asked him about Soldado, »

Holiday Surprise: Lucasfilm Sneaks Out One Final Rogue One Trailer!

25 November 2016 8:39 AM, PST

When Lucasfilm released that big, story-driven trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story in mid-October, most people assumed that it would be our final look at the movie- outside of those pesky 30 second TV spots that tend to repeat the beats from the big trailers. But Lucasfilm has surprised us with one additional trailer, a mere three weeks from the release of Rogue One! They debuted it last night during a Wonderful World of Disney holiday special.

This new trailer for Rogue One puts more of an emphasis on the Alan Tudyk-voiced K-2So droid than we've seen in previous trailers. Check it out:

Tickets for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will reportedly go on sale on November 28- a far cry from the nearly two-month head start they gave fans for tickets to Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Much has been said about the fact that »

The Flash "Killer Frost" Review- Kevin Smith Delivers

24 November 2016 9:25 AM, PST

After a couple of Mediocre weeks of The Flash this episode brought the series back to its roots.  Special guest director Kevin Smith (Mallrats, Clerks, and Yoga Hosers) returned for a second time and didn’t disappoint.  Although Smith admits his job is really easy with not a lot of work the two episodes he has directed easily rank in the top 10 overall of Flash episodes. With the focus on the episode on Caitlyn Snows transformation into Killer Frost this episode showed that the team is struggling with the effects of Flashpoint.  In a role reversal from previous episodes it was the team that went against the advice of Barry to try and solve their problems.  From Joe West going against the advice of the team and cutting Wally out of the cocoon before the team could figure out a safe solution, to Caitlyn going after Alchemy and his disciples »

Breaking News: Untitled Fox And Marvel Film Set For 2019?

23 November 2016 6:56 PM, PST

Woooooooooooooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwwwww!!!!!!

Untitled Fox/Marvel Film opens Thursday February 14, 2019. Let the rumor mill run wild.

— Exhibitor Relations (@ERCboxoffice) November 24, 2016

The movie is scheduled for 2019 but we already can’t wait for this one.

Is this really happening?!?!? Have Fox and Marvel Studios come to an agreement?!?!

For now, let’s say they did and the rights to Fox’s Marvel roster are available to team up with the McU in their future adventures! Just like Sony and Spider-man did! This is huge! Excelsior!

All this “movie right” mumbo jumbo sucks balls. All comic book fans want to see is their favorite characters just how they were in the comics. It’s the Marvel universe. Stories intertwined, characters teamed up, and many smiles were made. Comic books on screen are awesome and we would love for Hollywood to just embrace it already. Details are scarce right now but currently here’s what »

Heroes And Villains Fan Fest- Don't Call It A Convention

23 November 2016 6:09 PM, PST

An Intimate Experience

This past weekend I had the great opportunity to go experience Heroes and Villains Fan Fest in Atlanta at the World Congress Convention Center.  The organizers of this event are also responsible for the famous Walker Stalker Convention that has gained massive popularity.  The focus of the Heroes and Villains Fan Fest is to provide the attendees an intimate experience with the actors and actresses that attend the convention.  The main highlight to this event is to meet a majority of the cast from Arrow with other actors from various movies and shows.  The motto the organizers of Heroes and Villains/Walker Stalker Con created is "For Fanboys, By Fanboys" and that is what you feel when you attend this event.  This is not a conventional comic convention that you normally attend, this is an opportunity to get up close and personal with the celebrities you love »

Star Wars: Rogue One Composer Michael Giacchino On Taking The Reins From Alexandre Desplat

23 November 2016 1:18 PM, PST

Image via Lucasfilm

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is looking to be an increasingly-interesting beast for Lucasfilm. In addition to all the drama of it being the first standalone Star Wars flick, it will also be the first of the theatrical films not to be scored by film legend, John Williams. But the intrigue doesn’t end there.

Rogue One was originally set to be composed by Oscar-winning composer Alexandre Desplat. Given Rogue One’s reportedly extensive reshoots, changes likely had to be made to the postproduction schedule, and with that, it apparently fell outside of Desplat’s open window he had to work.

Read: Star Wars: Rogue One - Michael Giacchino Takes Over As Composer From Alexandre Desplat

Luckily, Lucasfilm was able to replace Desplat with another talented composer: Michael Giacchino, who is best known for such films as Star Trek, The Incredibles, and the more recent Doctor Strange. »

Moana On Track For An $85 Million 5-Day Debut

23 November 2016 12:30 PM, PST

Image via Disney

The Tuesday night numbers are in, and according to Box Office Mojo, Moana, Disney’s latest animated feature, raked in a sizable $2.6 million in early screenings on Tuesday night, which started at 7pm across the U.S. In comparison, last year’s The Good Dinosaur brought in $1.3 million in the same period, and 2013’s Frozen brought in $1.2 million. So what does this mean for Moana? Well, I’d say we can likely expect a strong weekend from the flick, and here’s why.

The Good Dinosaur — while it fared okay critically (settling in at about 77% on Rotten Tomatoes) — it never actually gained much traction. The film took in a modest $55.5 million that Thanksgiving 5-day weekend, and only ended up cracking $332.2 million in worldwide box office ticket sales when its theatrical run was complete. Given its reported $200 million price tag and $150 million or so in marketing, it went »

Fantastic Beasts: Director David Yates On A Deleted Scene Involving Everyone’s Favorite No-Maj

23 November 2016 11:43 AM, PST

Image via Warner Bros.

I’m a bit torn in the concept of deleted scenes. Understandably, there are scenes that are shot, but when the actual cut of the film comes together, it may fare better without a handful of those scenes actually being in the movie. However, the idea of releasing Blu-rays with these scenes has always irked me. I don’t mind an extended cut, but when the scenes are thrown into a separate part of the Blu-ray, it just doesn’t work for me. The context of the scene is virtually lost, and just makes me wish that, for better or worse, the scene was actually in the film.

However, like with most movies, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them had its fair share of scenes cut somewhere along the way, and speaking with Cinema Blend, David Yates spoke very highly of them.

“They're all good scenes, »
