Faith and spirituality
Spirituality in Sweden
In practice Sweden is a very secular nation, but the many church buildings across the country bear witness to a long historical presence of the Christian faith. About 66% of the population in Sweden are members of the Church of Sweden (Svenska Kyrkan), which is Lutheran, although only a small number of its members regularly attend Sunday services. There are also a number of evangelical free churches in Sweden, and around 160 000 registered Catholics. The Muslim community makes up Sweden's second largest religious group.
The University's Multifaith Chaplaincy (Studentprästerna)
Students of all faiths and none are welcome to the student chaplains' office in Lund. The student chaplains in Lund serve all students and employees of the University. Three ministers of the Church of Sweden and one pastor and one deacon of the Mission Covenant Church work together. Their office can be found on the 4th floor of the AF-building.
You are welcome to visit the student chaplains irrespective of your faith or religion. The chaplains provide personal and spiritual counselling and support. All visits are free of charge and confidential. The student chaplains can also help you to contact any local church or religious body.
