Fans of Stephen King's The Dark Tower may remember Charlie the Choo-Choo, the children's book bought by Jake Chambers in the series' third installment, The Waste Lands. With a Dark Tower movie coming out next year, Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers will release Charlie the Choo-Choo picture book on November 22nd. To the surprise of no one, Harry Potter has just topped a UK list of fan's favorite book-to-film adaptations. How did your favorites fare? J.K. Rowling's adaptations also topped a similar list last year. Considering she's British and writer of one of the biggest franchises in history, I would assume Rowling's work will easily continue taking the top spot for years to come. Unless they decide to do a reboot which somehow turns out terrible. Let's not think about that. According to The Guardian, 32% of 2,000 cinemagoers put Harry Potter at the top of their lists. It's a relatively small sample of people living in the UK, but something tells me it would stay on top even if it were larger. Here's the full list as they voted: 1. Sure, he’s written some iconic, terrifying stuff that has led to some incredible adaptations (It, Misery, The Shining, Carrie) – but it is his less scary stuff (Stand By Me, Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile) that has perhaps had the most dramatic impact. Back when current juggernaut property The Walking Dead was just an indie comic book series about the seemingly generic premise of a zombie apocalypse, it’s understandable that pitches to networks about a TV adaptation would be met with different industry-minded ideas. As a for-instance, it seems that the folks over at NBC imagined Rick Grimes and co. nabbing undead crooks every week.
Addressing the audience at an Edinburgh International TV Festival masterclass, The Walking Dead executive producer Gale Anne Hurd recalled a rather humorous anecdote from the project’s nascent days. The then-would-be TV series adapting Robert Kirkman’s comic book series, still under the auspices of show creator Frank Darabont, received some crucial facetime with executives at NBC with whom the show initially had an overall deal. »

Color me surprised or just plain out of touch and ignorant. I had no idea that in 2012, Stephen King -- perhaps one of the greatest modern American genre authors -- wrote a story that features Batman in a unique way. Yes, that's right. Stephen King of The Stand, It, The Dark Tower, The Green Mile, The Shawshank Redemption, The Shining, Carrie, Cujo, and Misery fame, incorporated the Caped Crusader into a story.
Though, before you get too excited, this isn't necessarily about Batman proper. No, this is a story entitled "Bazaar of Bad Dreams." If you recognize the title, that's because that's the name of a collection of short stories that King published earlier this year. Anyway, this short story, which was first featured in a 2012 issue of Harper's Bazaar, features a father and son having lunch together, reminiscing about better times. This is especially poignant because the father has a bad case of Alzheimers. »

John Carroll Lynch’s directorial debut “Lucky” has officially announced its cast, and the beloved Henry Dean Stanton is set to lead the way in a role specifically written “as a love letter” to the veteran actor. Harry Dean Stanton is starring in John Carroll Lynch’s directorial debut “Lucky,” currently shooting in Los Angeles.
David Lynch will also appear in the film, which adds to the list of projects he and Stanton have worked on together, including “Wild at Heart” and “The Straight Story.” Stanton is also expected to appear in Lynch’s “Twin Peaks” reboot.
Superlative Films is the production company. John Carroll Lynch is directing from a script by Stanton’s longtime friends Logan Sparks and Drago Sumonja.
“Lucky” follows the spiritual journey of a 90-year-old atheist — played by Stanton — and the quirky characters that inhabit his off-the-map desert town. He finds himself at the precipice of life, thrust into a journey of self-exploration.

Our series on big-screen remakes continues with a cult horror film that kickstarted the illustrious career of Steve McQueen. This week, Cinelinx looks at The Blob (1958 vs. 1988). Come inside to see how these two films stack up.
The original version of The Blob was a low-budget monster film made for $110,000. The titular creature was originally supposed to be called The Molten Meteor Monster, which then was changed to The Mass, which turned into The Glob, and Finally The Blob. The film's tongue-in-cheek title song was written by Burt Bacharach and Mack David, which became a hit. The movie was directed by Irvin Yeaworth who specialized in directing motivational educational and religious films, so this was a departure for him. Britweek organisers announced on Wednesday the day-long NewFilmmakers Los Angeles (Nfmla) programme set for April 30.
Celebrating cinema from the UK, the event will concentrate on two InFocus short programmes along with a line-up of features.
Between films, audiences can watch Q&A’s with film-makers and enjoy cocktails in Downtown La.
