ECS was founded in 1902 as an international nonprofit, educational organization concerned with a broad range of phenomena relating to electrochemical and solid-state science and technology. The Electrochemical Society has more than 8,000 scientists and engineers in over 70 countries worldwide who hold individual membership, as well as roughly 100 corporations and laboratories that hold corporate membership. ECS’s objectives are: to advance the theory and practice of electrochemistry, solid-state science, and allied subjects; to encourage research and dissemination of knowledge in these fields; and to assure the availability of adequate training and education of fundamental and applied scientists and engineers in these fields. Born as the American Electrochemical Society in 1902, the Society’s name was changed to The Electrochemical Society in 1930 to more accurately reflect its international activities and membership. ECS has grown and continued to respond to the changing technical needs and interests of its members. ECS continues to disseminate information through individual membership, corporate membership, student services, technical journals, a quarterly news magazine, books, technical meetings, awards; and to provide networking contacts through ECS’s Divisions and Sections. ECS bridges the gaps among academia, research, and engineering—bringing together scientists from around the world for the exchange of technical information.

The Hong Kong Polytechnic was formally established on 1 August 1972, taking over the campus and staff of the Hong Kong Technical College. Its mandate was to provide application-oriented education to meet the community's need for professional manpower resources. In the academic year 1971/72, before its handing over to the Polytechnic, the Technical College had just over 1,700 full-time day, 740 part-time day release and 9,340 part-time evening students in eight teaching departments. With most of the College's courses at technician and craft levels already transferred to the Morrison Hill Technical Institute established in 1969, the new Polytechnic started off focusing on achieving teaching standards appropriate to a Polytechnic. Since then, the Polytechnic has undergone extensive development and rapid expansion. The Institution launched its first five degree programmes in 1983, and introduced its first MPhil and PhD programmes in 1986 and 1989 respectively. With approval from the University and Polytechnic Grants Committee for self-accreditation of degree programmes, the Institution assumed full university status on 25 November 1994, changing its name to "The Hong Kong Polytechnic University". In 2012/13, the total number of students at PolyU exceeded 32,000, of which more than 17,000 were enrolled in governmentfunded programmes. Independent reviews conducted by the University Grants Committee confirmed PolyU's outstanding performance. PolyU has played an important role in the different stages of social and economic development of our community, helping to propel progress in Hong Kong, the Chinese mainland and the world. Apart from nurturing the much needed talents and professionals for society, PolyU also excels in research and innovation, and provides an expanding range of consultancy, professional training and services. Through applying research results to meet commercial and community needs and maintaining close partnerships with the business and industry, the University has been able to turn innovative ideas into practical use, bringing benefits to mankind.

We’re Keele University and we’re different. Founded more than 60 years ago on the belief that we meet the demands of a new kind of society, economy and world, our principles resonate now more than ever.

Nestled in 600 acres of countryside in the heart of the UK, many of our students and a number of our staff live, as well as study and work here. It’s a big campus but a small and cosmopolitan community. We operate on a human scale, providing people the space to think and plenty to do, with a vast array of clubs, societies, activities and volunteering opportunities.

We successively rank at the very top of student satisfaction surveys. This is because it’s more than green and lovely, it’s a place of research and academic excellence too. Whether it’s Health, Humanities and Social Sciences or Natural Sciences, whatever your area of study, we deliver a unique and international learning experience. We teach in small groups, provide one-to-one access to our academics and value the quality of our teaching as highly as our research. Our degree programmes and foundation years have always been distinctively challenging, flexible and foster a broader based knowledge. Our interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approach doesn’t just underpin a wonderful education but powers our world leading research. All of which also means we deliver greater impact and value from our research and teaching, globally as well as locally. It’s little wonder our students and alumni are as individual as the University itself: progressive and accomplished, clear about who they are and what they want to be, equipped to meet some of the big challenges the world today presents, for the good of society and enterprise. It’s the Keele difference.

The Liverpool Mechanics Institute was founded by people of power and influence who recognised the transformative effects of education and the impact that learning and aspiration could have on individuals, communities and society.  It was the first such institution to be founded in England.  This small, pioneering movement was followed by the establishment of the Liverpool Institute and School of Art and the Liverpool Nautical College, and in 1900 Irene Mabel Marsh opened the IM Marsh campus. These organisations together laid the foundations for Liverpool John Moores University, an institution that has grown and flourished and continues to provide opportunities for all.It is an ethos we characterise in the simple words – dream, plan, achieve – from a statement made by our namesake Sir John Moores, the founder of the Littlewoods empire and a beacon of equal opportunities in Liverpool, “...if you want to enough, you can achieve anything”.  Today, with a vibrant community of 25,000 students from over 100 countries world-wide, 2,500 staff and 250 degree courses, Liverpool John Moores University is one of the largest, most dynamic and forward-thinking universities in the UK.

The purpose of the Gordon Institute of Business Science is to significantly improve individual and organisational performance through business education. A great business school is a place that has significant impact on your life, on your career and on your working life - whether you are an individual doing a programme, or an executive in a company. GIBS was established in 2000 to be a place where people with potential, healthy ambition and respect for best practice are willing to engage like-minded peers and colleagues. The campus and its facilities have been designed to create a learning environment in which we all stretch our thinking, challenge existing ideas and develop a personal and organisational sense of where we need to go next. South Africa is a country that will continue to be challenged by the tension between its history and its future. Business leaders thrive on this tension as they look for opportunities to add value and generate prosperity for themselves and others. It is our hope that GIBS be a business school for and from the business community. Positioned in Sandton, Johannesburg, we partner with leading companies and are fortunate to attract the type of person to this campus who wants to make a significant impact. GIBS is accredited by the Association of MBAs (AMBA) and the Council of Higher Education (CHE) and a signatory to the Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME). The business school is also a member of the South African Business Schools Association (SABSA), the African Association of Business Schools (AABS) and the Academy of Business in Society (EABIS).

The University of Nebraska was founded on February 15, 1869, less than two years after Nebraska became the nation's 37th state. The original goal of this new land-grant university was, “To afford the inhabitants of this state with the means of acquiring a thorough knowledge of the various branches of literature, science, and the arts.” This goal has stood the test of time, inspiring the university's dedication to the education of students, research in a broad range of disciplines, and service to the state's citizens. The University of Nebraska is the state's only public university. It became the first institution west of the Mississippi River to offer graduate education in 1903. Founded in Lincoln, the university included a medical center in Omaha beginning in 1902.The University was reorganized under a 1968 act of the Nebraska Legislature. The legislation provided for the addition of the University of Nebraska at Omaha (formerly the municipal University of Omaha) and designated the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and the University of Nebraska Medical Center as separate campuses. In 1991, the University of Nebraska at Kearney (formerly Kearney State College) became a campus of the university. The university also includes many research, extension, and service facilities statewide.

This statement speaks of the University of Notre Dame as a place of teaching and research, of scholarship and publication, of service and community. These components flow from three characteristics of Roman Catholicism that image Jesus Christ, his Gospel, and his Spirit. A sacramental vision encounters God in the whole of creation. In and through the visible world in which we live, we come to know and experience the invisible God. In mediation the Catholic vision perceives God not only present in but working through persons, events, and material things. There is an intelligibility and a coherence to all reality, discoverable through spirit, mind, and imagination. God’s grace prompts human activity to assist the world in creating justice grounded in love. God’s way to us comes as communion, through the communities in which men and women live. This community includes the many theological traditions, liturgies, and spiritualities that fashion the life of the Church. The emphasis on community in Catholicism explains why Notre Dame historically has fostered familial bonds in its institutional life.

The DOE Office of Scientific and Technical Information (OSTI) joined ORCID in May 2013 and is one of only two federal agencies that have joined the ORCID community to date. OSTI is the DOE organization responsible for maintaining and disseminating the results of the Energy Department’s annual $10 billion investment in research and development (R&D). As such, OSTI develops and maintains a number of point-of-access web portals, such as SciTech Connect, searchable by many fields, including author of publication. Thus, it was important to OSTI to mitigate name ambiguity. Upon joining ORCID, OSTI immediately began tackling the first goal:  introducing ORCID information in its major portals.  OSTI revamped its Energy Link (E-Link) processing system, where R&D from the national DOE complex is submitted for processing. This allowed OSTI to change the way the thousands of author names within the system are parsed and maintained and added ORCID fields to the input repository.  OSTI then modified submission interfaces to integrate ORCID information.  At the same time, OSTI began educating and encouraging members of the DOE Scientific and Technical Program (STIP) community to plan for ORCID-related changes as they continue to submit DOE R&D to OSTI.
