Jim & Andy: The Great Beyond - in praise of a profound and moving documentary

Ryan Lambie Nov 21, 2017

A documentary about Jim Carrey's method antics on the set of Man On The Moon turns out to be a profound and moving must-see, Ryan writes...

Why bother? It's a question occasionally worth levelling at the 'Method' - an immersive, all-consuming kind of acting created by the filmmaker and actor Konstantin Stanislavski. At its best, method acting brings us searing, self-searching performances like Robert De Niro's famous turns in Taxi Driver or Raging Bull.

On the other hand, method acting can sometimes come across as needy and attention-seeking or, perhaps worst of all, a bit of a waste of time. For David Ayer's Suicide Squad, actor Jared Leto reportedly got so embroiled in his character, The Joker, that he started sending

Justice League and the dangers of extensive reshoots

Ryan Lambie Nov 17, 2017

They're pricey, and can prove to be a huge risk. In the wake of Justice League, we look at the rise of extensive reshoots...

You only have to look at the news that came out of the Warner-dc camp to see how plans for its Justice League team-up movie changed over time. Only two years ago - a relatively brief window, in blockbuster filmmaking terms - the studio announced that Justice League would comprise two parts, one scheduled for release in the autumn of 2017 and the second slated for the summer of 2019.

One year later, director Zack Snyder revealed that the plan had changed

Review: Snyder's 'Justice League' Has Few Bright Spots, Mostly Dim

Director Zack Snyder's Superman reboot, Man of Steel, received mostly positive reviews when it released in 2013, but ultimately underperformed at the box office. The second entry in the DC Extended Universe (Dceu), Snyder's sequel Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, encountered an overwhelmingly negative response from critics and lukewarm audience sentiment, despite making $873 million. Similarly, the third film in the franchise, David Ayer's Suicide Squad, wound up with terrible reviews but still surpassed expectations. Everything changed this year, when Patty Jenkins' Wonder Woman received widespread critical acclaim and overwhelming audience support, becoming one of the best-reviewed superhero movies of all time and the highest-grossing superhero origin movie in history. Now, Justice League hopes to ride Wonder Woman's coattails and deliver a fun, hopeful film that lives up to the legacy of the iconic superhero team that first assembled in DC Comics' 1960's The Brave and

Netflix recently released a video via their official Twitter account featuring Will Smith, who stars in Bright alongside Joel Edgerton. The video features Smith discussing the busy schedule Netflix has him on to promote the movie and, since he's a busy guy, he apparently can't do it all himself. So, he's requesting that anyone named Will Smith reach out to Netflix so they can help.

Justice League: is the Dceu getting a soft reboot?

Rob Leane Nov 2, 2017

Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot and Ben Affleck all seem to be talking about how different Justice League will be. Is it a soft reboot for the Dceu?

Zack Snyder’s Man Of Steel set the template for the DC Extended Universe, introducing a grungy tone and a greyed out colour palette, establishing a shared universe with destruction and death at its core. Henry Cavill’s debuting Superman wasn’t one for cracking smiles or spinning around in phone boxes, and he was viewed with suspicion by the militaries and citizens of the world.

Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice took this idea and ran with it, with Snyder introducing Ben Affleck’s Batman as the personification of anti-Superman sentiments. Batfleck saw the destruction of Man Of Steel first hand, and decided that killing the Kryptonian was the best course of action. It was another grim film,

Suicide Squad 2 Begins Shooting This March?

  • MovieWeb
It looks like Suicide Squad 2 is on track to start filming early next year. Despite reports that Will Smith's filming schedule on Disney's live-action Aladdin will get in the way of the production start, it looks like Warner Bros. has found a way to work around it. According to a new production listing, Suicide Squad 2 is scheduled to start filming in March of 2018. That should put the movie on track for release in 2019.

Even though the official cast hasn't yet been announced for Suicide Squad 2, it's expected that the majority of the principal cast will reprise their roles for the sequel. Though, the status of when Jared Leto will reprise his role as The Joker in the Dceu is a bit up in the air, it's ultimately expected that he'll appear in the movie. In addition to Will Smith as Deadshot, it's expected that the movie
