Director Says Adele Wanted to Cast Black Actor in ‘Hello’ Music Video to Address Police Brutality

4 hours ago | PEOPLE.com | See recent PEOPLE.com news »

Adele was very intentional with her casting of Tristan Wilds for her now-famous “Hello” music video.

In an interview with Xavier Dolan, the video’s director shed light on the events leading up to Wilds’ casting.

“It was her desire that we wouldn’t cast a Caucasian male in this, which I thought was great,” he told Vulture in an interview published on Thursday. “She called me and said, ‘This is what I think we should do,’ and if my memory serves me right … I’m going to be honest, it’s tragic not to be able to remember what »

Clarke Peters: 'I was 15 when I first stuck out my thumb and ran away from home'

6 December 2016 12:00 AM, PST | The Guardian - TV News | See recent The Guardian - TV News news »

He has starred in The Wire and sung with the Stones. As Clarke Peters returns to crooning, he talks about hating pop, playing pimps and making his first recording – at the age of four

A few minutes after I ring the bell at Clarke Peters’ home in a tranquil corner of north-west London, he materialises behind me, padding up the path with his wife, Penny. “Sorry, mate,” he says, the British colloquialism sounding odd in his deep, soothing east coast tones. “We were getting coffee. I don’t get to spend too much time with my wife.” Their youngest son recently left for university and Penny tells me she’s feeling “the empty nest thing”. Does he call? “Sometimes too much!” Peters says with a toot of brassy laughter.

He and I wander into the living room where a piano is covered in hats from some of the 64-year-old actor’s roles. »

You might still be recovering from the fantastic season finale of “Westworld” last night, and I don’t mean to bring you down, but season two likely won’t be arriving until 2018. However, the silver lining is that there will be plenty on HBO in 2017 to keep you occupied.

Showtime Re-Shooting Lena Waithe Pilot With New Director, Project Heating Up

30 November 2016 5:36 PM, PST | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

The long-gestating Lena Waithe pilot is finally seeing some movement over at Showtime — though not without some changes.

The pilot will be re-shot, and some re-casting is currently under way, Variety has learned.

Rick Famuyiwa will direct the new pilot, replacing Clark Johnson (“Homeland,” “The Wire”). Johnson helmed the original pilot, which was picked up in August 2015 and shot this October in Chicago.

With the new changes in motion, the project is heating up. Insiders say the cabler has ordered additional scripts, and are hopeful for a series order.

The pilot marks Famuyiwa’s first TV series project, though he directed HBO’s Kerry Washington pic “Confirmation.” The “Dope” director was also attached to “The Flash” movie, but dropped out. (Famuyiwa’s involvement on the Showtime project was first reported by Deadline.)

The Chicago-set pilot is described as a relevant, timely, and distinctive coming-of-age story, which revolves around a young African-American man in Chicago’s South Side »

Why don’t you start with The Crown? All I’ll say is, it’s about the Queen, I can’t wait to see how it turns out

God I’m exhausted, are you watching The Crown? It’s amazing, you’ve got such a treat in store, I wasn’t going to, because I’m still finishing season four of Orange Is The New Black, can you believe? I think it’s definitely the best, I heard five is out next June – you know who Piper Chapman is, right? But I thought I’d look and Matt Smith is so brilliant. You completely get that Prince Philip was actually incredibly good-looking, there was this real attraction, then we binge-watched the rest, totally addictive. Don’t talk to me about Matt Smith’s bum, you know his, I mean Prince Philip’s, mother was actually this nun, well, do have a look. »

‘Hunter Gatherer’ Review: Andre Royo Shines in a Comedy That Laughs at Trump’s Idea of Black America

16 November 2016 1:27 PM, PST | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

Josh Locy’s “Hunter Gatherer” is an innocent and eccentric debut, an off-kilter comedy that dipsy-doodles through a minefield of problematic ideas with the oblivious grace of Charlie Chaplin rollerskating from one potential disaster to another. A young white filmmaker from Virginia telling a heartwarming magical-realist story about a poor, earnestly simple black man in south Los Angeles… what could go wrong? The answer, of course, is “thank god that’s a rhetorical question.” But viewers who felt that fare like “Beasts of the Southern Wild” was exploitative or condescending are unlikely to be rankled in the same way by “Hunter Gatherer,” a warm-hearted movie which follows a diehard romantic but refuses to romanticize his plight.

As the film begins, a manic middle-aged man named Ashley Douglas (Andre Royo, famous for playing everyone’s favorite heroin-addicted informer on “The Wire”) is running around his mom’s house in a bathrobe »

A formidable character actress, Amy Ryan has built a career on dramatic supporting roles in everything from Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead to HBO’s The Wire, as well as Tony-nominated performances on Broadway. She is probably most famous for her Oscar-nominated turn as a distraught mother of a missing daughter in Ben Affleck’s Gone Baby Gone. "I'm not a glamour girl and that's Ok," Ryan tells Et by phone. Not confined to Hollywood's standards for leading ladies, she naturally gravitated toward these supporting roles. "It's what got me excited when reading scripts. The character parts are always so much fun."

While there’s no doubt that Ryan can deliver scathing, emotional performances, she has a serious funny bone that’s not often seen onscreen. “My mom always said to me, ‘Your career really surprised me,’” Ryan says. Trailer for David Gordon Green-Produced SXSW Winner ‘Hunter Gatherer’

7 November 2016 7:31 AM, PST | The Film Stage | See recent The Film Stage news »

After his career-defining role in The Wire, Andre Royo‘s output has yet to slow down in front of the camera. His latest role, in Josh Locy‘s feature debut Hunter Gatherer, earned him a Best Actor award at South by Southwest Film Festival earlier this year, and it will arrive in theaters next week. Ahead of the debut, the first trailer has now debuted.

Executive produced by David Gordon Green, Variety said in their review it’s “a highly eccentric, funny-sad tale of friendship and failure that occupies a curious space between inner-city realism and almost childlike myth.” That certainly comes across in this trailer, which has a strong mix of comedy and drama, with a powerful-looking performance from Royo. Also starring George Sample III, Kellee Stewart and Ashley Wilkerson, check out the trailer below.

‘Hunter Gatherer’ Trailer: Andre Royo is Making a Very Unexpected Living in SXSW Winner — Watch

Ashley Douglas is just making a living. Recently released from prison after three years, the one-time ex-con, played by “The Wire” favorite Andre Royo, is back on the streets and hopeful that his life is finally going to fall back into place. Despite his very best intentions — and a scrappy can-do attitude — that’s not exactly what happens in Josh Locy’s feature directorial debut.

Royo, who picked up a Special Jury Award for his performance at this year’s SXSW Film Festival, where the film made its bow, goes all out as the luckless Ashley, who emerges back into the “real world” to find that very little has waited for him, including his beloved girlfriend Linda. As Ashley sets out to make his way in a time and place he no longer recognizes, he takes up with a compelling loner named Jeremy (George Sample III), and the duo pull »
