The 'Lion' actress will receive the International Star Award at the Jan. 2 gala.

Nicole Kidman is headed to Palm Springs.

The actress will receive the Palm Springs International Film Festival's International Star Award for her performance in Lion, it was announced Monday. Mary Hart will host the annual awards gala, to be held Jan. 2 at the Palm Springs Convention Center and also honoring Sully's Tom Hanks, Loving's Ruth Negga, Manchester by the Sea's Casey Affleck and the cast of La La Land.

The Weinstein Company drama Lion follows Saroo, a five-year-old boy who gets lost on a train traveling away from his home. He is adopted by an Australian couple, but later uses Google Earth to reunite with his family. Nicole Kidman plays Saroo's adoptive mother, and Dev Patel, Rooney Mara, David Wenham and Sunny Pawar also star in the Garth Davis film.

Kidman previously received the fest’s Chairman’s Award in 2005. Past International Star honorees include Javier Bardem, Helen Mirren and Saoirse Ronan.

“One of the world’s most luminous and versatile actresses, Nicole Kidman has filled so many unforgettable roles including her performances in The Hours, Moulin Rouge!, Cold Mountain, Rabbit Hole and dozens more,” festival chairman Harold Matzner said in a statement. “In her latest film, Lion, she gives yet another award-worthy performance as Sue Brierley, an Australian woman who adopts two young boys from India.”

The 28th annual Palm Springs International Film Festival is set to run Jan. 2-16.
