Moana’S Mi

One of the best things about this week’s big film release Moana is the sequence where Dwayne Johnson songs the brilliant ‘You’re Welcome’, a song that I hope is nominated for an Academy Award just so that we get to see the big man perform live on stage.

The You’re Welcome Dwayne Johnson sequence takes place part of the way through the movie where Moana (Auli‘i Cravalho) meets Johnson’s demi-God Maui seeking his help to save her homeland.

Moana finally opens across the UK this weekend, and you can check out our interview with the film’s legendary directors Ron Clements and John Musker, which we’ve just posted. »

The planned film will be based on William Kalush and Larry Sloman’s book “The Secret Life of Houdini: The Making of America’s First Superhero,” with the story reimagining Houdini as not just a master escape artist but an investigator of the world of the occult.

Harry Houdini was born on March 24, 1874 in Budapest, Hungary, with the name of Ehrich Weisz, but was known around the world for his stage name, as the American illusionist and stunt performer, noted for his sensational escape acts.

The superb Moonlight has kicked off its [sure-to-be] gold rush by taking one of the first big awards of the season at the Gotham Awards. The Barry Jenkins-directed film, which we saw back at the London Film Festival in October, took Best Feature, beating the likes of Paterson, Certain Women, Everybody Wants Some!!, and Manchester By The Sea.

The film also took the Gotham Independent Film Audience Award as well as Best Screenplay for Jenkins and the Special Jury Award For Ensemble Performance.

The film is a poetic coming-of-age tale told across three chapters about a young gay black kid growing up in a poor, drug-ridden neighbourhood of Miami.

‘Jurassic World 2’ sees B.D. Wong return

B.D. Wong is set to return to the world of dinosaurs for the next instalment in the Jurassic World franchise. Bryce Dallas Howard and Chris Pratt are back for the upcoming sequel, with Toby Jones and Rafe Spall also joining proceedings in the film, directed by J.A. Bayona.

Of course, we don’t know anything about the plot of the film, but Wong will be reprising his role of Dr Henry Wu in the sequel.

Producer Frank Marshall has been speaking with CinemaBlend and confirmed:

“When they take off in helicopters, you know they’re probably going to come back.”

This probably suggests that the new movie will take place in the same location.

We do know that shooting will start in London and Hawaii in March of next year for a release in the summer of 2018.

We’ll bring you more news as it comes our way.

‘The Edge Of Seventeen’ review: “Hailee Steinfeld truly shines”

The Edge Of Seventeen review: Hailee Steinfeld turns in a fine, charismatic performance in this coming of age tale.

The Edge Of Seventeen review, by Paul Heath.

Image: eOne

Hailee Steinfeld shines in this coming of age, teenage angst tale that manages to engross you from the off with its magnetic ensemble performances, witty screenplay and wonderful direction.

Steinfeld plays 17-year-old Nadine, a troubled teenager whose life takes an unfortunate turn when her life-long best friend Krista (Haley Lu Richardson) starts to date her older brother, Darian (Blake Jenner). She also has an equally troubled mother, a superb off-the-grid Kyra Sedgwick, to contend with, and the unwanted attractions from classmate Erwin (Hayden Szeto). Then there’s Woody Harrelson‘s sympathetic, though brutally honest Mr. Bruner who seems to get the brunt of Nadine’s pain on a daily basis.

Home Entertainment: ‘Finding Dory’ review

28 November 2016 2:17 AM, PST

Finding Dory DVD review: Pixar’s only big-screen release of 2016 heads to the small screen. Could this be the greatest animated sequel of all time? Finding Dory DVD review

Finding Dory DVD review continues below.

2016 has been an absolutely belting year for Disney. Things kicked off rather nicely for the studio at Easter, releasing Zootropolis at a time of year that they hadn’t chosen for quite some time. The film was a massive success, and with their second feature of the year, Finding Dory, hitting at the peak of summer through their subsidiary Pixar, they managed to take things one step further.

Finding Dory had the unenviable task of not only following on from Zootropolis, but also the superb Pixar original Finding Nemo thirteen years prior. ‘Dory’ follows the Ellen Degeneres character who sets out on a mission to find herself by locating her parents. Her travels take her »

‘Sully’ review: “Eastwood’s masculine melodrama is saved by Tom Hanks”

28 November 2016 1:02 AM, PST

Sully Miracle On The Hudson review: Clint Eastwood directs Tom Hanks and Aaron Eckhart in this real-life drama.

Sully Miracle On The Hudson review, Jazmine Sky Bradley, November 2016.

While perhaps best known for playing the atypical ‘tough guy’ in classics such as The Good, the Bad and the Ugly and Dirty Harry, when Clint Eastwood sits in the directors chair he likes to focus on the ‘American hero’ – think Million Dollar Baby, Flags of Our Fathers, American Sniper. His latest release, Sully, is no different, with its story celebrating Chesley ‘Sully’ Sullenberger, the American pilot who crash-landed a passenger jet into New York’s Hudson River and lived to tell the tale.

15th January 2009 started out as any other day for Sully (Tom Hanks) and co-pilot Jeff Skiles (Aaron Eckhart), setting out from La Guardia airport to North Carolina. However, within minutes of setting off, Sully reports back to air »

“I think that Sean was obviously the great Bond,” he said.

“He was obviously the right person, he brought the right personality to the performance, otherwise Bond would not have gone on past the first six that he did. He was a tremendous Bond.”
