westworld episode 9 spoiler review

If last week’s episode of Westworld was the show taking in a deep breath, “The Well-Tempered Clavier” is that breath being let out in a hurricane of twists and turns that tore down many of the series’ facades and brought several key characters to their knees. And it isn’t just an avalanche of answers to questions – it’s as rich and thoughtful and weird as the show has ever been.

As always, I’m here with ten literal and rhetorical questions about what went down. Let’s dive in.

Chappie sequel

Any way you slice it, Chappie was a dud. It put in a meager showing at the box office and brought director Neill Blomkamp some of the worst reviews of his career. And though it’s got some defenders, they haven’t really coalesced into anything you’d call a cult following. But in case you were still wondering about the prospects of a Chappie sequel, Blomkamp is here to put those questions to rest: no, you should not expect to see a Chappie 2 anytime soon.  Read More »

La La Land Featurette

Decades ago, musicals were all the rage in Hollywood. Some of the biggest stars in the world were actors and actresses known for their impressive pipes and mesmerizing dance steps, like Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers. Now Whiplash director Damien Chazelle is bringing back that classic style in the modern musical La La Land starring Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling, and a new featurette goes behind the scenes to show how they’re making it happen.

Steven Knight Interview

Screenwriter Steven Knight‘s latest film, Allied, has shootouts, impeccable costumes, exotic locations, and two appealing movie stars, but there’s a fine conflict to go along with all the eye candy. Over 30 years ago, Knight was inspired to one day write about a Canadian intelligence officer (Brad Pitt) who learns his wife, a former French Resistance fighter (Marion Cotillard), might be a spy for the Germans.

Allied is based on a true story Knight was told in his 20s, but his version of the story plays out differently. Knight took the premise he heard, ran with it, and turned it into the movie we see today. His script ended up in the hands of director Robert Zemeckis, who crafted some top-notch sequences in the film we recently asked Knight about.

The screenwriter behind Eastern PromisesDirty Pretty ThingsPeaky Blinders, and next year’s Taboo took the time to discuss setting up challenges for himself, directing, rules, and some of Allied‘s standout scenes.

Below, read our Steven Knight interview.

Ghost Corps Logo - Future Ghostbusters Movies

When the reboot of Ghostbusters arrived this year, Sony Pictures was banking on the movie being successful enough to warrant a whole new franchise. They were confident that a sequel would happen, but the box office numbers indicated that might not be in the cards anymore. We know director Paul Feig is still hoping he gets to take a crack at a sequel, but there’s been no word on whether or not a sequel will actually happen. However, that doesn’t mean we won’t be getting more Ghostbusters movies in some form or another in the future.

Fantastic Beasts Easter Eggs

In the time since Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them has been released, fans have already been obsessing about every detail in the movie as if it were a new Harry Potter book. But for those who haven’t taken the time to dig any deeper into the events of the movie directed by David Yates, the characters who take part in it, or what this first movie means for the sequels in the way, a new video will explain everything you need to know.

Guardians of the Galaxy 2 LEGO Trailer

Just before Doctor Strange arrived in theaters, we were treated to the first sneak peek of footage from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. It was nowhere near the amount of footage that was shown at San Diego Comic-Con earlier this summer, but it was a solid tease of the sequel that we’ll certainly see more of in the near future.

Now, just for fun, a LEGO master builder and Marvel fan has recreated the entire Guardians of the Galaxy 2 sneak peek in LEGO form. There wasn’t anything particularly difficult to recreate in this first batch of footage, but that doesn’t make his efforts any less impressive and admirable.

The Belko Experiment Teaser

While many are looking forward to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, before that we’ll get a chance to see another film that director James Gunn worked on as a writer before getting behind the camera of the Marvel Studios sequel.

The Belko Experiment is scripted by James Gunn but directed by Wolf Creek helmer Greg McLean, and it takes the intensity of The Hunger Games or Battle Royale and throws it into an every day office. Sure, you may have fantasized about unleashing fury on one of your co-workers after they took the last donut, but given the opportunity, would you actually be able to kill them? That’s the dilemma that will be faced by the employees in The Belko Experiment teaser that just debuted. Read More »
