Zachary Levi's Shazam! Audition Was Actually For A 'Much, Much Smaller' Role

Zachary Levi's Shazam! Audition Was Actually For A 'Much, Much Smaller' Role
When you take a step back to look at all of the recent projects at DC Studios, "Shazam!" feels the closest the comic book movie brand has come to capturing the optimistic spirit of the Richard Donner "Superman" movies. It's bright, buoyant, and filled with a youthful energy about being a hero of the people and, more importantly, your family. Young Billy Batson (Asher Angel) is endowed with spectacular power every time he says the word "Shazam!"

Angel does a fine job of playing teenage Billy, but the star of David F. Sandberg's superhero comedy is ultimately Zachary Levi as the titular adult super. He's such a natural fit for the role. Not only is he hilarious at emulating what a child in the body of a grown-up would do if given the chance, he also shows just how much Billy comes to love his new foster family.

Jordan Peele Breaks Down Recreating Iconic Akira Moment In Nope

Jordan Peele Breaks Down Recreating Iconic Akira Moment In Nope
Jordan Peele broke down his decision to recreate the iconic Akira moment featured in Nope. Peele's latest film was released earlier this year on July 18, marking his third directorial work after 2019's Us. Like in its predecessors, Peele combines a mix of genres: this time, horror, science-fiction, and even Western.

Set in present-day Agua Dulce, CA, siblings "Oj" Haywood, Jr. (Daniel Kaluuya) and "Em" Haywood (Keke Palmer) train and handle horses for film and television productions while maintaining their ranch. After discovering a UFO responsible for their fluctuations in electricity and the vanishing of their horses, the Haywoods are determined to document its existence in hopes of profit. Palmer's "Em" is doing just that when she takes a paparazzo's motorcycle and slides down in a cloud of dust to a slow-motion, side-on, posturing halt. Nope's ambitious themes, performances, and cinematography were met with critical acclaim.

DC Fans React to James Gunn Studio Head News

DC Fans React to James Gunn Studio Head News
Ever since DC attempted to launch a cinematic universe with 2013’s Man of Steel, the internet has had opinions. For some, Zack Snyder‘s brooding approach signaled a more mature take on superheroes, a welcome contrast to the MCU. For others, his movies lacked the intelligence or sophistication to justify his rather humorless take, an unwelcome contrast to the MCU. Even as Snyder moved away from the center of DC movies, allowing directors such as James Wan, Patty Jenkins, and David F. Sandberg tell in-universe stories, while Matt Reeves and Todd Phillips got to pursue their own visions with The Batman and Joker, the internet chirped on.

So it should be no surprise that the establishment of new heads of the Dceu has earned a range of responses from the internet. It’s long been known that new head of Warner Bros./Discovery David Zaslav has been looking for a

All 10 DC Movies Releasing After Black Adam

All 10 DC Movies Releasing After Black Adam
After many years in development, DC's Black Adam is finally here. It had been a passion project of star Dwayne Johnson, who had promised it to usher in the new age of DC movies. It has been an uncertain time with DC recently, with the cancelation of Batgirl and WB's merger with Discovery. But there are still a lot of films to look forward to in the Dceu and beyond.

In the past, DC and Warner Bros. have been reactionary in the attempt to catch Marvel Studios and the MCU, with projects announced and then soon after disappearing off the slate altogether. But more recently things are starting to look up, with successes like The Batman in their locker. There are 10 films confirmed to be coming after the release of Black Adam, and here is the list of each of them with the respective release dates.

The Conjuring 4 Is Coming To Haunt The Warrens All Over Again

The Conjuring 4 Is Coming To Haunt The Warrens All Over Again
Zoinks! It looks like the Conjuring-verse is rearing back into action, because The Hollywood Reporter revealed that "The Conjuring 4" is officially in the works over at New Line Cinema. It will be written by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick, who wrote the last two entries in the mainline series as well as the upcoming "Aquaman and the Lost City." Needless to say, he's helped guide the "Conjuring" franchise to the comfortably profitable series it's become since 2013.

The exact plot for this new installment is being kept under wraps, but we can safely assume that it will follow the franchise formula fans have come to expect. A lot can be said about the real-life duo of alleged paranormal investigators, but we can't help but be pulled into the wacky hijinks of this franchise's versions of Ed (Patrick Wilson) and Lorraine Wilson (Vera Farmiga). Sure, the entire franchise might not always be of the best quality,

‘Black Adam': Inside the Decade-Long Journey to Bring Dwayne Johnson’s DC Anti-Hero to the Big Screen

‘Black Adam': Inside the Decade-Long Journey to Bring Dwayne Johnson’s DC Anti-Hero to the Big Screen
Dwayne Johnson finally makes his superhero debut in this week’s “Black Adam,” but the wildly in-demand actor and producer has been plotting this anti-hero role for over a decade, navigating the changing landscape of not just superhero movies in general, but the regime structure at Warner Bros. and DC to bring a gritty, nearly R-rated iteration of the character to the DC universe. The trajectory of the long-in-the-works film began with a combo Black Adam/Shazam movie, but the franchise’s future could find Johnson squaring off against the biggest DC heroes around.

The story of “Black Adam” officially begins back in 2007, when Johnson – who at that point was still building his acting career with films like “The Rundown,” “Doom” and “Southland Tales” – revealed that he was playing Black Adam, at that point in time for his “Get Smart” director Peter Segal who was attached to the project.

Shazam! Director David F. Sandberg Almost Directed A Completely Different Superhero Movie

Shazam! Director David F. Sandberg Almost Directed A Completely Different Superhero Movie
One of the most notable aspects of David F. Sandberg's 2019 superhero film "Shazam!" is its sense of wide-eyed wonderment. The title character is a tall, muscular, adult superhero with lightning powers and the ability to fly. In actuality, Shazam is the alter ego of one Billy Batson (Asher Angel), an orphaned teen who, through a complicated set of circumstances, acquired the ability to become a superpowered adult. Much of "Shazam!" is devoted to Billy and his foster brother Freddy (Jack Dylan Grazer) reacting with astonishment to Billy's new superpowers. Indeed, it takes Billy and Freddy the bulk of "Shazam!" to realize that being a superhero involves more strength of character than raw power.

The film's "little kid" sense of awe is something that is woefully missing from a lot of modern superhero cinema which increasingly skews toward oblique interconnected mythologies and the turgid navel-gazing of Nietzschean overmen. "Shazam!" is

Shazam 2: Fury of the Gods Director Dismisses Reshoot Rumors

Shazam 2: Fury of the Gods Director Dismisses Reshoot Rumors
Shazam! Fury of the Gods' director, David F. Sandberg, took to Instagram to dismiss recent rumors that the movie’s delay was caused by reshoots. After the movie was moved from December 2022 to March 2023, fans got concerned that the delay would mean the highly-anticipated sequel to the 2019 Dceu film Shazam! would go through some last-minute changes. That’s not the case, though, as Sandberg underlines the movie is nearly done and won’t be touched until release.

The DC Traffic Jam: Why It’s So Hard to Release Christmas Movies

The DC Traffic Jam: Why It’s So Hard to Release Christmas Movies
Warner Bros. Discovery, continuing its newfound status as entertainment ecosystem disruptor, announced several theatrical release date changes this week, with DC Comics sequel “Shazam!: Fury of the Gods” moving its Christmas 2022 date to March 17, 2o23. It replaces “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom,” which will now open on December 25, 2023.

“Shazam” director David F. Sandberg tweeted that the reason his film’s delay wasn’t the studio; it was “Avatar: The Way of Water,” which gobbled up the IMAX screens in December. (Wbd didn’t see that coming?) All in, it’s probably a win for “Aquaman;” the FX could probably use the extra nine months and it gets a higher-profile new date.

For now, however, the release calendar lost what would probably have been the second-highest grossing film released in December. It also suggests a problem for all releases calendars of Christmas future: More films require more IMAX screens.

Shazam: Fury of the Gods: David F. Sandberg Comments on Delay
Like most people who have been waiting anxiously for Shazam: Fury of the Gods, you must be floored by the recent Warner Bros. decision to move the blockbuster’s release date from this December to March 17, 2023. While DC fans can no longer wish for a theatrical Christmas present, the movie’s director David F. Sandberg took to Twitter to join in the frustration, but also to guarantee that there is a silver lining to the date switch.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom release pushed back to December 2023; Shazam 2 fills the old date
It looks like it will be over a year before Arthur Curry (Jason Momoa) returns to Atlantis. Deadline has reported that Warner Bros. has pushed the release of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom back by quite a bit. The Aquaman sequel was originally slated to hit theaters on March 17, 2023, but has now been moved to December 25, 2023.

With Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom being pushed back, its original release date will be filled by Shazam: Fury of the Gods. The David F. Sandberg movie was supposed to hit theaters on December 21st, but will now fill Aquaman‘s old date of March 17, 2023. This shift will move the Shazam sequel away from the release of Avatar: The Way of Water and allow it to have access to the IMAX screens that were going to be taken up by the James Cameron movie.

‘Aquaman 2’ Heads To Christmas 2023, ‘Shazam: Fury Of The Gods’ Goes To March; HBO Max Pics ‘House Party’ & ‘Evil Dead Rise’ Going Theatrical – Warner Bros. Release Date Changes

‘Aquaman 2’ Heads To Christmas 2023, ‘Shazam: Fury Of The Gods’ Goes To March; HBO Max Pics ‘House Party’ & ‘Evil Dead Rise’ Going Theatrical – Warner Bros. Release Date Changes
Exclusive: Deadline has learned that Warner Bros is making a slew of release-date changes next year. First of all, James Wan’s Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom needs more time in postproduction, so it’s moving from March 17, 2023 to December 25, 2023. You’ll remember the first Aquaman was released during Christmas 2018 and made 335.1 million domestic and worldwide is one of two 1 billion-grossing DC pics alongside Todd Phillips’ Joker.

To backfill that March 17 space, and also to capitalize on an Avatar-less March, David F. Sandberg’s Shazam: Fury of the Gods will be moving off its December 21 release date and heading to Aquaman 2‘s old date. Read: look how great The Batman was with its March opening at 134M and finaling at 369.3M.

Another thing: Shazam 2 will have access to Imax screens on its new date, a premium-ticket format that Disney will otherwise be sopping up this December with Avatar: The Way of Water.

A Full List of Upcoming DC Movies

A Full List of Upcoming DC Movies
With “The Batman” dominating the box office earlier this year (and a “Batgirl” movie abruptly shelved), many may be wondering what’s next for Warner Bros.’ lineup of DC movies. The answer is, a lot.

2022 alone will bring five new DC feature films, some of which are sequels and some of which are launching brand new franchises with megastars like Dwayne Johnson. While DC Films has eased up a bit on creating an intricately connected universe of films after “Justice League” disappointed, the crop of films on deck range from more stories set in the same universe (like “The Flash” and “Aquaman 2”) to standalone films set in their own world (like the Joaquin Phoenix-led “Joker” sequel).

Below, we’ve assembled a complete list of upcoming DC movies, including current cast information, release dates and what we know about each project so far.

What Ben Affleck’s Batman Return in Aquaman 2 Says About the Snyderverse

What Ben Affleck’s Batman Return in Aquaman 2 Says About the Snyderverse
“Batman and Robin will never die!” Those triumphant words, spoken in 2008’s Batman #676 by Grant Morrison and Tony S. Daniel, may have occurred in the comics, but they could apply to the movies as well. Case in point, despite numerous claims that he’s done with playing Batman after a cameo in The Flash, a recent Instagram post from Jason Momoa indicates that Ben Affleck will return as the Dark Knight for next year’s Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.

This, of course, raises several questions about the current state of the DC movie universe. After all, Robert Pattinson starred in The Batman just earlier this year, and Michael Keaton has been touted as the primary Batman in The Flash and Batgirl. Does the reunion of Affleck’s Bruce Wayne and Momoa’s Arthur Curry mean that the Snyderverse has indeed been restored?
