Director J.J. Abrams has added a pair of newcomers to the cast of Star Wars: Episode VII in UK-based American actress Crystal Clarke and British actor and parkour practitioner Pip Andersen (see his Spider-Man ad here), both from an open casting call in which over 37,000 showed up in 11 cities across the Us and UK. There is wo word on what parts Clarke or Anderson will play in the film, as production takes a two week hiatus, allowing time for Harrison Ford to recover from a broken leg for which he had surgery back in mid-June. However, what you should note from today's announcement, the studio again confirms production is on track for the planned December 18, 2015 release, despite the silly rumors speculating otherwise. That being said, just because filming isn't taking place now, it has been going on for some time now and Kevin Smith, whose become more of a roaming »

Last week, we brought you the news of Kevin Smith talking about what he saw on the set of J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars: Episode VII. And while the Clerks director is sworn to the non-disclousure agreement, he took the time out to guest blog for The Hollywood Reporter with some other thoughts of what he saw:
“So we go to the set and they’re actually shooting, and they’re shooting – and I can’t tell you what they were shooting – but what I saw I absolutely loved,” Smith said. “It was tactile, it wasn’t a series of f***ing green and blue screens in which later on digital characters would be added. It was there it was happening.”
“I saw uniforms, I saw artillery that I haven’t seen since I was a kid. I saw them shooting an actual sequence in a set that is real. I walked across the set, »

News
The latest developments on Jj Abrams' now in production Star Wars: Episode VII are that there are two new faces in the cast, and a bit of a production rejiggle. So let's take that in order.
Crystal Clarke and Pip Anderson are the new cast members. They've both been discovered through the open casting call process that took place last year, where tens of thousands of people tried to nab a role in the new Star Wars movie. The official press release from Lucasfilm didn't give any details on what their roles would be, but it did provide a snap of the pair. So here you go...
And then, as a consequence of the heavily-reported injury to Harrison Ford, there's going to be a break in filming. »

J.J. Abrams has added two new faces to his Star Wars: Episode VII cast. Newcomers Crystal Clarke and Pip Andersen beat out 67,000 hopefuls who took part in open casting calls. "The Star Wars universe has always been about discovering and nurturing young talent and in casting Episode VII we wanted to remain absolutely faithful to this tradition. We are delighted that so many travelled to see us at the open casting calls and that we have been able to make Crystal and Pip a part of the film," said Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy. While their characters haven't been announced, the casting call description featured a woman named Rachel, described as a "street smart, independent, athletic, natural beauty" and Thomas, who has "grown up without a father's influence. Without the model of being a man, he doesn't have the strongest sense of himself." Despite taking a two-week shooting hiatus in August »

Clerks director Kevin Smith has praised Jj Abrams for "building a tactile world" for Star Wars Episode VII.
Smith was recently invited to visit the film's set at Pinewood Studios and shared some details about the experience.
Last week, the director posted a teary-eyed photo of himself outside the studios on Instagram, saying: "Visited Jj and his Ep VII set. I signed the Nda so all I can share are this old Bantha-Tracks subscriber's tears and snotty nose of joy. The Force is With this movie. Holy Sith..."
Speaking at the Neuchâtel International Fantastic Film Festival in Switzerland on Saturday (July 5), Smith added: "So we go to the set and they're actually shooting - and this is what I can't tell you, what they were shooting - but what I saw, I absolutely loved.
"It was tactile, it wasn't a series of f**king green and blue screens in which »

Last week, writer/director Kevin Smith let the world know via his personal Instagram account that he had the chance to visit the set of Star Wars: Episode VII. He claimed that the experience moved him to tears, and apparently solidified a personal positive outlook on what J.J. Abrams and his team are doing at Pinewood Studios in England. The filmmaker couldn't go into any real details at the time due to signed non-disclosure agreements, but apparently those signed papers were only active for one week because now Smith is talking all about. As discovered by SlashFilm, the Clerks. director was recently in Switzerland for the Neuchatel International Film Festival, and while on stage during a Q&A session he blabbed all about his experience on the set of Star Wars: Episode VII. Taking the audience through his own personal, emotional trip throughout the day, Smith began by »

One of the lucky few to have visited the set of J.J. Abrams' "Star Wars: Episode VII" so far has been filmmaker Kevin Smith. He's signed a non-disclosure agreement, so can't quite talk about his experience, but did drop some new information during a film festival appearance in Switzerland on Saturday. Here's the transcript:
"[Abrams] had sent me an email out of the blue while they were shooting in Abu Dhabi last month. So we go to the set and they're actually shooting, and they're shooting -- and this is what I can't tell you what they were shooting.
But what I saw I absolutely loved. It was tactile, it wasn't a series of f---ing green and blue screens in which later on digital characters would be added. It was there it was happening.

Not everyone was spending the long July 4th weekend out in the sun, and making the most of three days off work. J.J. Abrams and Walt Disney are still busy at work on "Star Wars: Episode 7," and the ensemble that already includes John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Max von Sydow, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, Kenny Baker, Lupita Nyong'o and Gwendoline Christie, just got a little bigger. Up-and-comers Crystal Clarke and Pip Andersen have been selected to join the film, after a global casting call at the end of last year. Of course, there's no details on their roles, but it should be noted Andersen is something of a parkour expert. His skills have been seen in a handful of advertisements, so it'll be interesting to see what kind of function he'll serve in this sequel. "Star Wars: Episode 7 — Parkour, »

J.J. Abrams and the Star Wars: Episode VII producers are still not done adding cast members to the already well-stocked ensemble that makes up the latest film. Just this very weekend, Crystal Clarke and Pip Anderson were announced as the new recruits. The pair, largely unknowns, was plucked from the massive open casting call that Disney and Lucasfilm held at the end of last year. From a deep pool of more than 70,000 submissions both in person and online, these two made it through.Clarke is an American actress studying in Glasgow who has worked in the theatre and has two films due in 2015, The Moon And The Sun and Woman In Gold. Anderson is a parkour expert who has mostly been a stunt performer. Sounds like his skills will be put to good use on either the side of good or evil.“The Star Wars universe has always been about »

Last year, Disney and Lucasfilm embarked on a talent search for Star Wars: Episode VII, launching an open casting call across the States and the UK which resulted in over 67,000 applications, and now it has been announced that two entrants have secured roles in the eagerly-anticipated sequel.
According to the official Star Wars site American actress Crystal Clarke (The Moon and the Sun) and British actor and parkour practitioner Pip Andersen (who recently demonstrated his skills in a Spider-Man ad for Sony) have both signed on for unrevealed roles in the J.J. Abrams-directed Episode VII.

A bit of Star Wars 7 casting and hiatus news was announced today, so I figured I'd combine that with a few other SW7 tidbits on a slow Sunday. First, the official news that Crystal Clarke and Pip Anderson (both pictured above) have joined the cast of the J.J. Abrams directed Star Wars: Episode VII. Also, according to the official announcement, there will be a two week hiatus from shooting in August to allow the schedule to work around Harrison Ford's leg injury. Meanwhile, Kevin Smith has found a way to keep talking about the film (without saying all that much) despite the fact that he signed a fat Nda that initially only allowed him to post an instagram video of himself crying. Hit the jump for that and for some "leaked" Star Wars Episode 7 footage. Slashfilm caught wind of a Q&A Smith gave the Neuchatel International Film Festival in Switzerland. »

StarWars.com have sent out a press release revealing the identities of the two young actors who have been chosen from the 67,000 hopefuls who tried out for a coveted role in J.J. Abrams’ highly anticipated Star Wars Episode VII late last year. Casting calls went out both in the UK and Us, and online.

Love him, or hate him, there's no denying that filmmaker Kevin Smith is an unabashed movie geek, and (of course) Star Wars is one of his all-time favorite franchises. There's some interesting discussion about Kevin Smith in relation to Star Wars recently, mostly about his visit to the set in London. "I saw old friends who I haven’t seen since my childhood, who aren't really friends... I saw uniforms, I saw artillery I haven't seen since I was a kid. I saw them shooting an actual sequence in a set that was real. I walked across the set, there were explosions." He's not allowed to say much ("I signed the Nda"), and only posted some nerd tears to Instagram at first, but later divulged more in a recent Q&A at a festival this past weekend. Watch below. The story goes that Kevin Smith, an uber-level Star Wars fan, »

In a new update on Sunday, Disney announced that two new actors, Crystal Clarke and Pip Andersen, have been added to the cast, and that Harrison Ford’s injury will cause a brief halt in production next month.
American actress Clarke is currently studying in the U.K. Her first feature, “The Moon and the Sun,” will debut in 2015.
Andersen is a British actor and parkour practitioner who showcased his skills in a 2012 ad for Sony.
It’s unclear which roles the two newcomers will play. In November, Disney did issue a casting call for two characters named Rachel, a “beautiful, smart and athletic” 17- to 18-year-old woman, and Thomas, a “handsome, smart and athletic” 19-to 23-year-old man.

J.J. Abrams has expanded the already impressive cast of his upcoming Star Wars: Episode VII, as both Pip Anderson and Crystal Clarke have climbed on board. Both actors were found after an open casting call across 11 U.S. and U.K. cities. 37,000 individuals attended the casting calls, with a further 30,000 submitting applications online.
If you’re unfamiliar with the names Pip Anderson and Crystal Clarke, it’s because neither has appeared in a released feature film before. Andersen is a parkour artist, having highlighted this skill set in a Spider-Man ad for Sony and in the first World Freerunning Championships in September of 2008. Clarke, on the other hand, is an American actress studying in Glasgow, who has appeared in stage productions and has a role in the upcoming The Moon and the Sun.
