Emilia Clarke Joins ‘Star Wars’ Han Solo Spinoff

The galaxy far, far away is inching closer. The “Star Wars” Han Solo spinoff has tapped Emilia Clarke as its female lead.

The “Game of Thrones” actress will star opposite Alden Ehrenreich and Donald Glover, who play Solo and fellow smuggler Lando Calrissian, respectively.

Selma” and “Creed” star Tessa Thompson, “Power Rangers” actress Naomi Scott, and Zoe Kravitz tested for the role in October. Another group, which included Clarke, Kiersey Clemons, and Jessica Henwick, tested in London with Clarke ultimately landing the role.

Execs and directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller, who are also penning the script, had tested another group in September, but settled on another round after struggling to make their choice.

Jury Rules Against Man Who Claimed He Created 'Kung Fu Panda'

A Massachusetts man who claims he first came up with the character and story for the 2008 animated movie Kung Fu Panda has been convicted of wire fraud and perjury charges.

Fifty-one-year-old Jayme Gordon had filed a lawsuit in 2011 designed to obtain a multimillion-dollar settlement from DreamWorks Animation Skg.

Prosecutors said Gordon fabricated and backdated drawings of characters similar to those in Kung Fu Panda, lied repeatedly during his deposition and destroyed computer evidence.

Prosecutors said beyond what they called superficial similarities, the panda characters and story that Gordon created have little in common with DreamWorks' movie.

Spencer Baumgarten to Leave CAA for ICM Partners

Veteran literary agent Spencer Baumgarten has joined ICM Partners as a partner.

Simon McQuoid is in talks to direct the big screen reboot of the videogame franchise, Heat Vision has confirmed.

James Wan is producing the reboot for New Line, the studio behind both the 1995 film that became a surprise hit, as well as its less-than-stellar followup, Mortal Kombat: Annihilation. Larry Kasanoff, who produced the original films and helped extend the Mortal Kombat brand to new heights, is executive producing the reboot.
