Mother Of Dragons Emilia Clarke Joins The Han Solo Stand-Alone Film

Emilia Clarke is heading to a galaxy far, far away -- and she's going to meet Han and Chewie.

Lucasfilm announced that Clarke, known for her stirring portrayal of Daenerys Targaryen in Game of Thrones, will join the upcoming untitled Han Solo Star Wars movie. Clarke's role will round out a dynamic cast of characters that Han and Chewie will encounter on their adventures.

Clarke joins Alden Ehrenreich and Donald Glover — previously cast as Han Solo and Lando Calrissian, respectively — in the highly-anticipated film, which is set prior to the original Star Wars trilogy. »

Justice League May Feature Another Surprise Character

Image via Warner Bros.

Disclaimer: If you don’t want to be spoiled for Justice League, I don’t recommend reading ahead.

It’s taken a bit of time, and some would argue a couple of bad movies, but we’re finally knee-deep in the anticipated DC Extended Universe. Early next year, we’ll be seeing the origins of Wonder Woman, and around this time next year, we’ll be seeing the Justice League hit the big screen.

Rumors about the final roster have been circulating for years now. In the past several months, however, the lineup seemed pretty obvious based on what we’ve seen in Batman v Superman. The team would consist of: Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Cyborg, and Aquaman. The recent set visits from various outlets all but confirmed this, and DC/Warner Bros. even went so far as to release a promo image featuring this group. »

Star Wars: Rogue One - New Empire Cover Features The Death Star Plans

Image via Lucasfilm

We are officially less than a month away from the release of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Last year, around this time, we were all beyond thrilled at the idea of Star Wars: The Force Awakens continuing on the beloved saga, in hopes that it would live up to the original trilogy. The film came and went, and while not everyone was convinced of its greatness, the general consensus seemed to be that it was a more than worthy follow-up to Return of the Jedi, and was a good step in the right direction of erasing the stink of the prequel trilogy.

This year sees a new Star Wars film hitting theaters, but unlike last year, this one won’t continue the saga. Instead, we’ll be experiencing a single, standalone story in the form of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. As important as The »

Guardians 2: Drax Is “The Funniest Character In Vol. 2” Says Director James Gunn

Image via Marvel Studios

Not many expected the original Guardians of the Galaxy movie to hit the mainstream as it did. Sure, Marvel Studios clearly had some faith in the flick — otherwise it would have never been made — but none of us fans had any real reason to assume it would be any good. For starters, it was based on a comic book that virtually no one had read (on a side note, if you’re one of the people who claim to have read it, you’re a liar), and as such, it was already doomed to face an uphill battle, due to the mainstream not having a familiar name to latch onto.

While Guardians of the Galaxy managed to live up to its epic name with fun visuals and space-hopping action, it delivered on a very important element: comedy. Oftentimes, when thinking of space opera, comedy isn’t »

World War Z Director Marc Forster To Helm Disney’s Live-Action Winnie The Pooh Movie

Disney’s latest film in a long list of live-action adaptations finally has a director. That’s right, Christopher Robin, a film based on A.A. Milne’s classic books Winnie the Pooh, has landed a director.

According to THR, the movie is set to be directed by Monster’s Ball, Finding Neverland, and World War Z helmer Marc Forster. Unlike most interpretations of the source material, this flick won’t focus as much on Pooh and the rest of the characters in the Hundred Acre Wood, but will instead focus on an adult Christopher Robin, who befriended the bunch as a kid.

I can already feel the waterworks coming on. Given that Pooh and his friends are stuffed animals, I can only imagine this movie will imbue themes of growing up, and by the end of it all, I’d be surprised if it wasn’t confirmed that everything was in Christopher Robin’s head. »

The Flash: Don’t Expect Ezra Miller’s Barry Allen To Be A Wholly Competent Speedster

Image via Warner Bros.

When telling a superhero story, there are generally two approaches one could take to the character. Does the character fully understand and know how to use his or her powers, or are they just a hero in training? The latter has a high potential to be frustrating. As an audience member, there are fewer things more annoying when a character does stupid things for the sake of the plot (you have no idea how many times I yell at the TV when watching CW’s The Flash due to Barry Allen's terrible Speedster skills), and the former has the potential to be flat-out boring.

If a character is too competent with its superhuman abilities, you have the potential for everything to come too easy. If everything comes to easy, there is no inherent conflict, and that makes for a dull watch. To be fair, that’s »

Marvel's The Inhumans: James Gunn On Whether Vin Diesel Could Still Play Black Bolt

Image via Marvel

Several years back, Vin Diesel’s impending involvement in the Marvel Cinematic Universe was a question mark. That’s not to say we didn’t know whether or not he’d actually be in one of their movies, but rather it was a big question as to which role he would play. It was a toss up. Would he play the character of Black Bolt in the Inhumans film, or would he play Groot in Guardians of the Galaxy? Last year, despite the fact that Diesel had already played Groot, it then became a question as to whether or not that would actually nix him from the list of actors who could still play Black Bolt in The Inhumans. Diesel even discussed the possibility with io9.

“We’ve heard a lot of talk about Marvel wanting to have me play a character that doesn’t have my voice. »

Here's Why Brett Ratner Should Direct The Flash For Warner Bros.

A couple of weeks ago when news broke that Rick Famuyiwa had abruptly exited The Flash, my co-hosts on the Los Fanboys Podcast asked me who I thought should replace him. At the time, I found myself kind of reaching. No one really sprang instantly to mind, and so I made a couple of half-hearted suggestions on the spot. But, being that all things DC are so near and dear to my heart, I've continued to think and think and...think...and a name suddenly popped into my head and I'm now prepared to plead my case for why Brett Ratner would actually be an ideal man for the job.

With Famuyiwa's sudden departure, and amidst rumors that Warner Bros. was at a "To Delay, or Not To Delay?" crossroads, I mentioned that I hope that the WB learns from Fox's mistakes on X3. This wasn't a dig at Ratner. »

How Fantastic Beasts Sequels Will Be Titled

Image via Warner Bros.

As trivial as they may seem, titles are kind of a big deal. A lot of times, movie studios rely on the titling to sell the movie. It’s through titling that the branding of a franchise is recognizable to the common moviegoer. In fact, that’s one of the reasons why the Marvel Cinematic Universe was such a risk. It relied heavily on word of mouth that audiences would understand that these differently-named franchises were actually interrelated.

If you’re like me, you’re not only one of those people who hates the names of every Fast & Furious film (seriously, what the hell with that franchise?), but you’ve also been wondering just how the upcoming Fantastic Beasts films will be named. Of course, the answer to that one seems obvious, right? Fantastic Beasts and… would be the natural way to take it, right?

Is The Suicide Squad Extended Cut Worth Your Time And Money?

Image via Warner Bros.

A few days ago, Warner Bros. and DC released Suicide Squad: Extended Cut on Digital HD. This marks the second extended cut release of one of their DC Extended Universe films. Earlier this year, we experience one hell of a fan backlash on the heels of the Batman v Superman theatrical release. While that movie had its strengths, there was no denying that it had cohesion problems. However, when the Batman v Superman: Ultimate Edition, a cut of the film that boasts 30 extra minutes, was released, many of the issues fans had with the film were fixed. Of course, not everyone was pleased, but it’s fair to say that a sizable chunk of agreed that the Ultimate Edition should be the cut of the film that anyone sees.

A few months back, Suicide Squad hit theaters, and like Batman v Superman before it, the reception wasn’t so hot. »

Legends Of Tomorrow "Outlaw Country" Review

This weeks episode of Legends of Tomorrow took us back to a place we had already visited in the first season.  With one episode before the big four part crossover event in two weeks the team went back to the Wild West to help their old friend, Jonah Hex, fight his old nemesis Quentin Turnbull.  Now that the team has discovered that a speedster is going back in time to alter history the team has to now discover the motive of why the speedster is altering history.

1.       The writers and producers of this show have found its groove and are sticking with it.  With Arrow being the serious show, Flash and Supergirl being the shows with heart, Legends needed to have its own style to separate itself enough from the others.  I believe it has done that by being the show that doesn’t take itself seriously.  Not saying the »

The Lrm Interview: Producer James L. Brooks on Making The Edge of Seventeen

Opening today is Kelly Fremon Craig’s directorial debut The Edge of Seventeen, and it is an impressive debut that works as a coming-of-age high school comedy in a way few others have

There’s a reason why it’s being compared to everything from Juno to Clueless to Fast Times at Ridgemont High, and much of that has to do with the central character, 17-year-old Nadine, as played by Hailee Steinfeld. She’s a bit of an outcast, sure, but the words that come out of her mouth, as written by Craig, makes her an immediately compelling character, as we see her face all sorts of adversity from the death of her father to other more mundane teenage angst with such a wry sense of humor.

Craig had a great mentor-of-sorts in James L. Brooks, who signed on as a producer fairly early on in order to get the movie made. »

Japanese Fans Are Loving Scarlett Johansson's Ghost In The Shell So Far

Despite some serious backlash and controversy over its supposed whitewashing of a beloved Japanese property, Ghost In The Shell is performing very nicely in Japan. The first trailer for the film recently debuted, and the Japanese-subtitled YouTube version of the trailer has already notched north of a quarter million views with the "Likes" outnumbering the "Dislikes" by a margin of 10 to 1.

They seem to be liking what they're seeing, and this is the latest indication of Japanese Ghost In The Shell fans being caught off-guard by the backlash the production has received here in the States ever since it was announced that Scarlett Johansson would be playing The Major.

Reports coming out of the Japanese film industry and its fans, dating back to April of this year, have indicated that fans of the original property never even expected the Hollywood version to cast a Japanese actress in the first place. »

Box Office Forecast: Fantastic Beasts Off To Decent Start With $8.75 Million Thursday Night

Yesterday, I discussed with you where Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them is projected to land, and how that compares to what the franchise's big brother- The Harry Potter Series- did a few years ago. I pointed out that the projections for the spinoff/pseudo-prequel were over $100 million short of what the last Potter did.

Read: "Fantastic Beasts To Make $100 Million Less Than Last Harry Potter In Opening Weekend"

The film's Thursday preview results are now in. Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them made a solid $8.75 million last night, which puts it right on pace to land in that $70-$80 million projection we discussed yesterday. That figure puts it behind Marvel's Doctor Strange, which opened two weeks ago and collected $9.4 million during its Thursday previews while on its way to a $85 million weekend. For a variety of reasons, it'd be unfair to compare it to what the last »

Comic Book Reviews: DC Round Up Week 11-16-2016

Comic Book Reviews: DC Round Up Week 11-16-2016

This week Batman’s plans for Operation: Break Bane’s Damn Back! Continues with an unexpected (but not really) twist, Green Arrow continues to deliver, and I basically give up Aquaman being interesting. To top it off I’m thinking I’ll finally drop Suicide Squad as despite Jim Lee’s artwork the story is just dumb. It’s lowest common denominator dumb. Characters acting different then they do anywhere else, being forced to feel more like the “movie”, and now potential zombie Captain Boomerangs. How did the other books fair this week? Read on!

Aquaman #11

Story: Dan Abnett Art: Philippe Briones, Gabe Eltaeb

Review: So it takes Arthur nearly getting beaten to death by the Shaggy Man (yes that’s a real villain, a robot that’s indestructible and looks like Big Foot) to finally win some good graces back »

Here's When You'll Get To See The Spider-man: Homecoming Trailer!

A buddy of mine, who's frankly kind of obsessed with Spider-Man (and the Philadelphia Eagles) has been bugging me for months. "When is the Spider-Man: Homecoming trailer coming? Didn't they wrap a while ago? Come on! You should know this stuff!" And I've told him that my best prediction is that it will be unveiled alongside the premiere of its Disney cousin Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. It'd make sense, right? Disney owns LucasFilm, and it owns Marvel Studios- which is co-producing Spider-Man: Homecoming with Sony- so the best possible launch for a trailer for the July movie is with Rogue One in December.

Turns out, I was right.

ComicBook.com is reporting that sources close to the production have informed them that the trailer for Spider-Man: Homecoming will, indeed, be attached to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story when that film comes out on December 16.

That means »

The Crow: The Latest Twist In The Road For The Troubled Reboot

It's been quite a winding road for the people trying to get a new version of The Crow made. I feel the need to draw that distinction, mind you. What's being proposed here isn't a remake of the Brandon Lee movie; It's going to be a new adaptation of the actual The Crow comic books. I feel like I've been tracking this thing forever, and it's been a little bit of a bummer to see all the roadblocks its hit after a seemingly promising start.

I first came into contact with this project after The Crow creator James O'Barr came onboard and gave the reboot his blessing. You can read that original piece from Halloween 2014 right here:

"The Crow Creator Discusses His Change of Heart About The Remake"

O'Barr shared with the world a rather touching story about how the film's then-directer F. Javier Gutierrez sought him out and won »

All Eight Harry Potter Films Ranked From Worst To Best

17 November 2016 4:01 PM, PST

It’s almost here. Five years ago, moviegoers worldwide said goodbye to our wizard friend Harry Potter. To many, 2011 marked the conclusion of a childhood journey that began in the late 1990s, and for millions, Harry Potter was a void that could not be filled.

We all knew either a sequel, prequel, or spinoff film or book series was inevitable, and in 2016, we were given both. On the theater side of things, we got Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, a story that mostly followed Harry’s horribly-named son, Albus Severus Potter. On the film front, we will be getting Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. This film will be the first of five planned movies, all of which are set to be written by author J.K. Rowling and directed by longtime Potter director David Yates.

But before we dive into this bold, new world this weekend, I thought »
