Black Panther - American Horror Story’S Angela Bassett Joins Marvel’s Latest As The Superhero’s Mom

8 hours ago | LRMonline.com | See recent LRM Online news »

Image via Marvel

Remember the time when hardly any respectable actor cared to join superhero films? Yeah, what a time that was. Even some of the actors who portrayed those characters didn’t always feel like they were playing real characters. In the eyes of the mainstream, these comic book characters were little more than caricatures created to entertain kids.

Oh, how times have changed.

In the decades since then, the entire landscape has changed — not just for comic book movies, but the entire film industry. What was now once a small sect of the business is now it’s stake in the ground. Every year, several comic book movies hit theaters and makes hundreds of millions — oftentimes even billions — of dollars for studios. No longer are the stories low-key, low-budget, or self-contained narratives. They are part of an ever-growing ecosystem full of actors no one could have imagined joining the fray 20 years back. »

Ghost In The Shell: what we've learned about the new film

Ryan Lambie Nov 21, 2016

The live-action Ghost In The Shell got its unveiling in Tokyo last week. Here's what we learned...

Pitched somewhere between a mournful chant and a military march of drums, Kenji Kawai’s soundtrack for 1995’s Ghost In The Shell cast an unforgettably eerie pall over the entire movie. The makers of the new, live-action take on Ghost In The Shell clearly recognise the power of Kawai’s music because, as the lights go down on the movie’s Tokyo unveiling event, the composer and musician himself is here to thrash out a live version of his score.

Japanese Fans Are Loving Scarlett Johansson's Ghost In The Shell So Far

18 November 2016 8:54 AM, PST | LRMonline.com | See recent LRM Online news »

Despite some serious backlash and controversy over its supposed whitewashing of a beloved Japanese property, Ghost In The Shell is performing very nicely in Japan. The first trailer for the film recently debuted, and the Japanese-subtitled YouTube version of the trailer has already notched north of a quarter million views with the "Likes" outnumbering the "Dislikes" by a margin of 10 to 1.

They seem to be liking what they're seeing, and this is the latest indication of Japanese Ghost In The Shell fans being caught off-guard by the backlash the production has received here in the States ever since it was announced that Scarlett Johansson would be playing The Major.

Reports coming out of the Japanese film industry and its fans, dating back to April of this year, have indicated that fans of the original property never even expected the Hollywood version to cast a Japanese actress in the first place. »
