Facebook Bans Fake News Sites From Using Ad Network
7 hours ago
Facebook is blocking fake news sites from using its advertising network to generate revenue, the Wall Street Journal reported Monday, following a similar move by Google.
The restriction follows speculation that fake news on both of the companies’ sites may have influenced the outcome of the election.
It means that fake news sites now join misleading, illegal and deceptive sites as barred properties by the Facebook Audience Network.

‘Natasha, Pierre & the Great Comet of 1812’ Broadway Review: Josh Groban Makes Epic Debut
10 hours ago
The triple threat is rare in the theater, and for good reason. An adventurous Dave Malloy gives us the quadruple threat with his musical “Natasha, Pierre & the Great Comet of 1812,” which opened Monday at the Imperial Theatre after a long run Off Broadway.
He writes the music, lyrics, book, and orchestrations. He is by far the most successful with his orchestrations. There’s always a catchy ostinato to grab our attention under the sometimes less-than-inspired melodies. As a composer, he borrows from everybody: Carole King, Claude-Michel Schonberg, Giacomo Puccini, Michael Bolton.
Josh Groban, making his Broadway debut, comes to grief.

Safety Pin Wearers Receive Backlash From Social Media
11 hours ago
For those who thought wearing a safety pin to show solidarity was an act of good faith, you may be in for a treat — the safety pin campaign is receiving criticism for being a passive act.
People have taken to social media to express that simply wearing a safety pin is not enough to show solidarity and that those who want to stand against bigotry need to do actual physical work to show their ally-ship.
Some people have recently started donning a safety pin to represent solidarity with people who say they have suffered from racism, sexism, xenophobia, Islamophobia and homophobia,

Democrats Believe Facebook Contributed to Hillary Clinton’s Loss To Donald Trump

Clinton campaign chief digital strategist Teddy Goff thinks that fake news shared on Facebook helped Donald Trump upset Hillary Clinton in the presidential election and plans to “take on” the problem.
“Everyone has the right to say what they want, have access to sites that they want, share what they want,” Goff told Politico. “But a publisher with a record of making stuff up is not likely to rank that highly on Google, and the equivalent ought to be the case on Facebook.”
On Sunday night, HBO’s “Last Week Tonight” host John Oliver slammed Facebook as a “cesspool of nonsense” and.

President Obama Dodges Question About Steve Bannon Appointment
13 hours ago
President Obama dodged a question on Monday about Donald Trump’s decision to appoint former campaign CEO Steve Bannon — a man celebrated by white nationalists — as his chief strategist and senior counselor.
“Without copping out, it would not be appropriate for me to comment on every appointment that the president-elect starts making if I wanna be consistent with the notion that we’re gonna try to facilitate a smooth transition,” Obama said during his first post-election White House briefing.
“Look, the people have spoken. Donald Trump will be the next president, the 45th president of the United States. And it will be up.

9 Democrats Who Could Challenge Donald Trump for President in 2020 (Photos)

Donald Trump shocked the world and beat Hillary Clinton to become the president-elect of the Unites States. He doesn’t take office until Jan. 20, but Democrats are already thinking about the next election. Here are seven Democrats who would put an end to the Trump movement in 2020.
The First Lady is a terrific public speaker and one of the most likeable members of the Democratic Party. She has said the job doesn’t interest her. However, if Trump isn’t unifying the nation as his term winds down, expect Democratic leadership to essentially beg Obama to run.
Cory Booker is a talented campaigner.

‘Mars’ Lifts Off Tonight on Nat Geo: Astronaut Compares Accuracy to ‘The Martian,’ ‘Interstellar’
14 hours ago
John Grunsfeld has spent nearly two months in outer space, which makes him pretty darn qualified to break down “Armageddon,” we’d say.
His extensive resume also impressed the National Geographic channel, which is why producers asked Grunsfeld to be one of their on-camera “big thinkers” for scripted-documentary hybrid series, “Mars,” which launches tonight. The debut officially kicks off Nat Geo’s rebrand, which is encased in spirit by new tagline, “Further,” and aims to increase the cable network’s premium content count.
TheWrap welcomed the physicist, who is currently on hiatus as Nasa’s Associate Administrator for the Science Mission Directorate,

How Steve Bannon Made a Fortune Off of ‘Seinfeld’
14 hours ago
Steve Bannon, Donald Trump’s new chief advisor, became one of the most prominent figures in American media by leading Breitbart, a conservative-leaning news site that critics call sexist, antisemitic, homophobic and racist. He’s less well-known for his unique role in the history of the TV series “Seinfeld.”
Long before he became the chief strategist of Donald Trump’s White House and the executive chairman of Breitbart News, Bannon was an investment banker. After a stint at Goldman Sachs, he launched his own firm, Bannon & Co., in 1990.
Fast forward a few years. Bannon was brought in to help Westinghouse
