Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX10 III puts emphasis on lens reach and video capabilities

Sony has unveiled the Cyber-shot DSC-RX10 III, surpassing the zoom range of its predecessor with a 24-600mm equiv. F2.4-4 lens. The camera uses the same 1"-type stacked CMOS sensor which produces 20MP stills as well as 4K/UHD video, and does not replace the RX10 II, which continues in Sony's lineup. Read more

Studio report: Nikon D5 has lowest base ISO dynamic range of any current FF Nikon DSLR

When the Nikon D5 arrived in our office on Friday we immediately wanted to answer a few questions: How is the low light performance? How good is the autofocus? How is the Raw dynamic range? We've found that while the D5's sensor is clearly optimised for low-light image making, it represents a rather surprising - and disappointing - step backwards in terms of base ISO dynamic range. Class 10 200GB microSD card on the way from Lexar

Starting immediately, Google's Nik Collection of desktop image editing plug-ins is being offered free of charge. Nik's Analog Efex Pro, Color Efex Pro, Silver Efex Pro, Viveza, HDR Efex Pro, Sharpener Pro and Dfine apps are all available as a free download from Google, a substantial savings over the previous $150 price. Canon has announced two new large format imagePrograf Pro series printers. The Pro-2000 and Pro-4000 both use 12-color Lucia pigment ink systems and produce either 24in or 44in prints. The Sony a6300 has some sizable shoes to step into. With a 24MP CMOS APS-C sensor, 8 fps continuous shooting with live view, 425-point on-sensor phase detect AF system and 4K video capture it looks like a solid update to the a6000, at least on paper. We've been shooting with the a6300 for a few days and we've just added several images to our gallery of real-world samples. Read more

Sony announces development of wireless flash control system

To kick off WPPI in Las Vegas, Sony has announced that it's developing a wireless radio flash control system for its range of flashguns. Consisting of the FA-WRC1M radio commander and FA-WRR1 receiver, the system will offer control over 15 flashes in 5 groups up to 30m away. Read more

Sony introduces Cyber-shot DSC-HX80 30x travel zoom

Sony is unveiling its third in a series of 30x zoom compacts, the Cyber-shot DSC-HX80. It offers a 24-720mm equivalent lens, built-in pop-up EVF like the HX90V, and uses an 18.2MP Exmor R CMOS sensor with Bionz X processor. Read more

Lee Filters has announced a 15 stop neutral density filter, able to convert what would normally be a two-second exposure into one that lasts 17 hours and 4 minutes. SD card 5.0 protocol supports up to 8K video recording but risks confusion

The SD Association has introduced a Video Speed Class rating, designed to identify cards capable of 8K, 4K, 3D and 360° video capture. The speed class, which guarantees minimum sustained performance, comprises five ratings: V6 (6MB/sec), V10 (10MB/sec), V30 (30MB/sec), V60 (60MB/sec) and V90 (90MB/sec). Confused? Read more
