Paul Verhoeven, Isabelle Adjani, Shinya Tsukamoto, Abderrahim Tounsi To Receive Career Tributes at Marrakech

11 hours ago | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

The 16th Marrakech Film Festival, which runs Dec. 2-10, will include career tributes to helmers Paul Verhoeven and Shinya Tsukamoto and thesps Isabelle Adjani and Abderrahim Tounsi.

Since its inception in 2001, one of the main objectives of the Marrakech fest has been to serve as a crossroads of world cinema, which is once again reflected in this year’s choice of homages, complemented by a country tribute to Russian cinema.

In addition to his tribute, Dutch director Verhoeven will also give a master class during the event, in which he will talk about his extensive career between Europe and the U.S, including his Isabelle Huppert-starrer “Elle”, which is France’s foreign-language Oscar entry. Huppert served as jury president at the 2014 Marrakech Fest.

A radical and innovative Japanese director and actor, Tsukamoto recently starred in Martin Scorsese’s “Silence” and is one of Quentin Tarantino’s favorite helmers.

TV Review: ‘OBJECTified: Donald Trump’ on Fox News, Hosted by Harvey Levin

16 hours ago | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

“OBJECTified: Donald Trump,” an hourlong special that aired Friday night on Fox News, is the puff piece to end all puff pieces.

It’s a stellar example of the kind of television you can make if you have zero interest in journalistic standards and pay no attention to quality. It is visually quite ugly, thanks to both production values apparently imported from a 1987 VHS tape and the lamentable interior design of president-elect Donald Trump’s penthouse in Manhattan.

It is a reality TV special — the first few minutes provide a preview of what’s to come, the stock footage and sourced interviews are used and re-used with impunity, and the music scoring the background seems designed for any other show (possibly the reunion episode of an obscure competition program about tattooing, or competitive travel).

Or, no: Perhaps instead, it is an infomercial. “OBJECTified” was filmed on September 15 — the same day that Donald Trump would tape the “The Tonight Show »

Friday’s edition of “20/20” marked Carlson’s first TV interview since the upheaval, but Carlson told ABC NewsAmy Robach she could not discuss the case because of the $20 million settlement she reached with Fox News in September.

“I hope I’ve helped other women to win,” she said when asked by Robach if she felt she had achieved a victory with her lawsuit. Carlson filed suit against Ailes in July after Fox News failed to renew her contract. Carlson maintains she was demoted from high-profile anchor »

Fifty-one-year-old Jayme Gordon had filed a lawsuit in 2011 designed to obtain a multimillion-dollar settlement from DreamWorks Animation Skg.

Prosecutors said Gordon fabricated and backdated drawings of characters similar to those in Kung Fu Panda, lied repeatedly during his deposition and destroyed computer evidence.

Prosecutors said beyond what they called superficial similarities, the panda characters and story that Gordon created have little in common with DreamWorks' movie.
